  1. Yeah, I imagine they thought people would be quite confused by that. I mean, they might've thought the cro--sorry, Raven-- was a deserter and wondered why Bran was trying to talk to him instead of calling for his execution like a true Stark. It was Summer. Though I suppose they look the same.
  2. I gave it 7 and actually felt it deserved it, where with the last episode I felt I was being generous. Overall, the first two episodes were a bit disappointing, but still a decent start to the season. As for the Cat scene, I wouldn't call it assassination, if only because they reduced her long ago to a simple worried mother character. That she would want to mother Jon isn't so surprising then, though even for the setting it makes no sense (are they going to have her be the one to convince Robb to name Jon his heir then?).
  3. I gave it 7, though even that feels generous. The opening scenes with the Watch were extremely dull (as I expected, nothing was shown for how they survived an army of wights and Others), as was Jon's meeting with Mance. Some highlights include Tyrion's scene with Tywin, Davos alone on the seastack and his meeting with Salladhor, and the unsullied being cut up. That's about it. The rest was setting the board, though none of it particularly interesting. The reveal of Barristan was also a total waste and poorly handled. Hopefully the next episode is better.
  4. Ned was clearly shown as dead in the first book, as Robb was in the third. Arya didn't die and was proved to be alive after ten chapters or so. Quentyn, however, was shown getting a full face of dragon fire. Not something he's likely to recover from, as seen in the subsequent chapters. That's why it's crackpot.
  5. The battle just started. They may win that day and push the slavers back from the shore side of the city, but it's far from won. It might eat up a good chunk of the book. Sounds likely considering it was held up from Dance. Besides, that was only one side of the city, and there's still the ships from Volantis that haven't showed up. Also, I think there may be more troops yet to arrive from the Yunkai and Qarth (I can't remember how many men from there they sent or have yet to send).
  6. Too optimistic. If that's an accurate quote, it's courage, not loyality he's surprised by. I don't think there are any fields to set fire to in Meereen.
  7. No. It's specifically says she screamed a word and GRRM confirmed that word was sword. And besides, what would it matter if she screamed the word sword in her mind?
  8. If Pod wasn't alive, Brienne would have no reason to lie to Jaime about Sansa.
  9. Despite some grievances, I really loved the episode, especially the ending, so it's a 10 for me. I had already heard Rhaegar was gone and all the HotU stuff was original (and was disappointed but I honestly didn't expect anything less since how the season's been going so far), so I was wondering what they were going to put in place of it, and besides the last bit with Dany and the dragons, I did love the other segments with the Wall (it was really amazing seeing Dany actually walk there) and Throne room. I was a bit surprised to see Drogo again but thought that scene actually worked rather well. It was also great to finally see a White Walker -- loved the look, the ice spear, the slowly approaching hoard (setting up for the battle next season, which hopefully we'll get to see); the CGI there was fantastic. I didn't at all like Jon's story this season. They completely blew it by having him captured and dragged along like an idiot. His fight with Qhorin was decent though, as was the last shot of the valley with the Wildings. I was severely disappointed Arya didn't kill anyone but Jaqen's fairwell was as good as I hoped it'd be. I was really satisfied with Theon this season and this last episode was another highlight for him. Great episode overall.
  10. 7. Might've given it an 8 if the Harrenhal escape hadn't been so lackluster or the Robb and Talisa scenes so terrible. I really wish they would've limited Robb a lot more this season like in the books, using the time to focus on more important characters. Seems the only time we see Robb was to have him slapping hands with his soldiers or carrying on his sappy romance with Talisa. Also, Jon is a moron and his storyline stretches the limits of believability beyond a breaking point. I also hate how they ruined Stannis making Davos hand. In the books it was a powerful scene (Davos: Your lords will never obey me. Stannis: Then we'll make new lords), but here it's just sort of a offhand remark, a sort of "by the way, you're going to be my hand if we get through this." The dialogue between Jaqen and Arya was great (Maisie needs an Emmy), for the most part, but I missed some good lines they didn't include. Tyrion and Bronn and Varys was a great dynamic as well, though Tyrion's another character whose intelligence has taken a hit. Jaime/Brienne made off to a good start - he better call her wench sometime soon, though. I did like the little bit between Yara and Theon; it was a great scene between those two. The added bit about her wanting to strangle him as a baby was a nice addition. The look on Theon's face and his reaction to her words there were great -- Alfie Allen continues to impress. Since this was basically just the set up episode for the BW, hopefully next week's episode delivers greatly.
  11. No. Unless she becomes seriously ill or dies, they're not going to replace her. And why would you wish someone ill just because you don't like how they're portraying a character? That's messed up.
  12. I just want to say, hell those Wolves look amazing! Was that just the lighting in that scene or did they actually make Summer golden? If so, nice touch. Actually, that wasn't supposed to be the Damphair, apparently. Just some random priest, I think.
  13. Best episode of the season (gave it a ten). May actually be one of my favorites overall. The Yoren and Arya scene at the end was amazing (Maisie Williams is absolutely brilliant as was Francis Magee). That would've been worth it alone. Oh, and crossbows? It takes more than arrows to stop Yoren! He'll be missed. :*(
  14. Loved it. Solid 9. I think it could've really benifited from a few extra minutes (then again, the show could probably benifit from having 10s of millions of more dollars and twelve episodes per season), but considering what they had, I thought was great. It was very fast, but I liked how they used the comit when switching between scenes -- tied it all together nicely. I agree with one review I saw that critiqued the LF/Cersei scene. Pretty stupid move on his part (out of character for him), but I didn't mind -- too much -- the change with Cersei and the decision to kill the babies. Only thing that really bothered me was there Arya's non presence. I hope her storyline is given the time it deserves this season. Looking forward to Ep 2. (Side note, but I love the new map HBO has on their site!)
