  1. Thank you all for your kind replies. I've been around the forums for some years, and the more I involve in discussions, the more apparent it becomes to me that GRRM "made up stuff as he wrote" for the first three books, not really caring for timelines, distances and logic. Claiming the unreliable narrator technique is just a poor attempt at covering up. The problems became apparent in the last two books, with us on the internet analyzing every word twice and coming up with all kinds of crazy theories. Lyanna goes missing, presumably together with Rhaegar, Brandon rushes to KL to die there with his father, and after the war Ned returns with a baby and refuses to talk about the baby's mother. But he brings home Lyanna's bones and buries them in the crypts. And no one is Westeros is able to add one plus one? Really? They should all be dead from stupidity for a long time.
  2. You know I descend on this thread from time to time like a bad thing from outer space Here we go again: If Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, shouldn't he be older than Robb? There is quite some time between Lyanna disappearing after Harrenhal and Ned marrying Catelyn. Regardless whether it was consensual or rape, Rhaegar and Lyanna didn't wait to have sex until Ned was married, did they? Yes, I know sex doesn't lead to pregnancy instantly/each time, but there is quite some time between the two events.
  3. Another obsessed one failing to read. Obviously, though it is not stated anywhere, the wetnurse at Winterfell was not Wylla. If Ned had brought Wylla, people would remember her, and assume she is Jon's mother. That would lead to rumor's Ned had brought his concubine, and he would not gain the reputation he had. Plus, it would not go well with Cat. It makes much more sense that the wetnurse at Winterfell is someone known in the North who cannot be Jon's mother.
  4. I do not know who Jordan Peterson is, and I don't care either. From time to time I intrude on this thread, make a comment, and the Pawlow trained dogs still bite without food. We have some mentions of Wylla, some of Ashara, but not a lot on both. Plus cryptic SSMs saying that Ashara wasn't fixed to one place during the rebellion. If Wylla were Ashara's nickname, that wouldn't necessarily make her Jon Snow's mother, except for Ned Dayne thinking so. Ned danced with Ashara at Harrenhall. Ashara jumped from a tower after the loss of a child and her lover. If she miscarried (Ned's child?) she might become a wetnurse? And the death of her lover might be figurative - Ned has married Cat by now. Just an option.
  5. Please read my post before complaining. 1) Did I write anything about whom I believe or not believe to be Jon Snow‘s parents? Not a single word. 2) The magic word is „and“: is it anywhere in the books that Lyanna and baby Jon have been at the ToJ? No, it is not.
  6. Just like the 167 iterations of this thread claim that Lyanna and baby Jon have been at the ToJ though the books don't have one single word about it.
  7. All of this were less complicated if we knew that Wylla was Ashara's nickname.
  8. As we talk about unpopular theories, I have a very old one that I posted somewhere between heresy 10 and heresy 20, and I guess it got debunked, but still think it would have been cool: It originated from the Others being "a different kind of life" and having ice spiders and getting smashed by dragonglass. My idea was that when the Children of the Forest used the hammer of the waters, the water left some jellyfish on the ground in the land of always winter, and instead of dying the became solid (jellyfish are mostly water), and developed a hate for all warm-blooded life that caused their situation in the first place. And the ice spiders would be squids sharing a similar fate. But it was too far out even for heresy. With my username being alienarea, what did you expect?
  9. One of the heresies that has little to do with the outcome of the series and can be easily proven or debunked in the next book(s), if there is one, is that Ashara Dayne faked her own death and is Septa Lemore.
  10. The books and show built their fame on being cynical, gross and subverting tropes. Ultimately, subverting too many tropes, sacrificed a coherent storyline. Ultimately, it was maybe GRRMs plan to get rich and famous without finishing. Book 4 and 5 are basically stalling and planting seeds for more speculation. Which is clever from a marketing point of view, but if this is his endgame he got caught with his trousers down.
  11. One could say D&D were trying to give us a good show as long as possible but had to end up with GRRMs shitty book ending contractually.
  12. In general, as a standalone, episode 5 wasn't bad, but: A short scene with the girl getting caught trying to poison Daenerys would have helped explaining Varys getting executed. Without that, it felt random as Tyrion and Jon betrayed Daenerys as well. She could have burned all three of them, or lock them up and burn Winterfell before turning on KL. I don't get how Tyrion could free Jaime and still lead Daenerys' army, when she threatened to kill him the next time he disappoints them. The Euron - Jaime fight was pointless IMHO, Jaime would have died with Cersei anyway. And having Euron burned by Drogon would give Daenerys some revenge for Rhaegal. I would have loved Arya getting killed in KL by friendly dragon fire, burning her to a crisp "no one". I guess it won't happen, but I hope Daenerys personally executes Tyrion in episode 6. And if the leaks are true, Daario should avenge Daenerys and behead Sansa.
  13. If Daenerys gets stabbed by Jon in ep. 6, can we have an episode 7 with Daario avenging her?
  14. When the Night King died, all those he raised died as well. Jon Snow was raised by Melisandre, and she died. Shouldn't he have died then, too?
  15. Not sure if it has been brought up before, was some days off and don't have time to read the whole thread. The strategy sucks big. The Night King is after Bran? Why doesn't Bran board a ship to the Iron Islands, Bear Island, Skagos? The wight dragon should not be able to fly across water. And if he could, only the Night's King could fly to where Bran is. 50 archers with dragonglass arrows should be enough to take him out. Btw, where is Anguy? He should be concentrating on taking out White Walkers and the Night King.
  16. I'll leave this forum after season 6. And I don't care about the future books anymore. Not because the tv show may have spoiled them, but because IMHO it turned out to be a hype. If you believe it's better than LOTR you have not been paying attention.
  17. I dare to voice the ultimate heresy: the plot is weak. I tried to start a new topic for getting opinions on this without bashing or being rude, still it gets deleted.
  18. Just read the OP, very good job.   I have a few arguments for this that are outside of ASoIaF:   - the Dayne's have a famous sword. The hero of the story always uses a famous sword. Will Darkstar be the hero of the story? Not likely. - Arthur + Lyanna = Jon then Jon is the offspring of the two oldest First Men houses. Almost as pure ice as the Targaryens are fire. What is the story called again? - Now if Ned is not Jon's father and Jon's mother is Lyanna (who on the show might be played by Maisie Williams?), would you cast Jon's real father for a flashback or his real father's best friend? I mean, if Rhaegar were Jon's father we should get a flashback of the Trident and Rhaegar dying with Lyanna's name on his lips, shouldn't we?
  19. I am convinced Ramsay and his 20 good men can defeat the White Walkers. Shirtless, if necessary. Will Davos push Melisandre in Jon Snow's funeral pyre or grab her and they burn both? Then Stannis rises. Or Theon's cock. As Kit mentions Jim Morrison in that interview, how about some lyrics: "When the true king's murderes are allowed to roam free, a thousand magicans will rise in the land" Balon Greyjoy can now claim the Iron Throne. Last man standing.

  22. If only Areo Hotah were to behead the Sand Snakes. Or maybe YarAsha and her 50 killers could do that. No dogs in Dorne.
  23. I have a bad feeling for Ser Barristan now. He wants to live that day and he will never again question the loyalty of sellswords, in other words: he is dead meat.
