  1. Is it still Roto? Weekly? Daily? Where should I read to get some reminders?
  2. That was the impression I came away with. It was almost as though she didn't want Fuji to know, as if she actually understood what was being said... I've not actually read the book as of yet, maybe this summer, but that end of the episode...whoof...
  3. Okay, the list convinced me to give Kushner's Swordspoint a try, though looking over her books, The Privilege of the Sword looked more interesting but I figure I should start at the beginning to make sure I understand what's going on in this world... Also picked up The Tower at Stony Wood by McKillip, as my library didn't have the story listed in the article available and this one seemed like I'd enjoy it.
  4. Not sure. Haven't tried baseball in years. What's the set up again? I may try, if only to allow Jaime the chance to avoid the basement...
  5. I'm (obviously) a huge proponent of McCaffrey so it's nice to see her on this list...but Anne's stories. NOT her son's terrible fan fiction...
  6. How in the heck did this thread, ostensibly about one of the most popular American sitcoms ever, devolve into a discussion about what constitutes a superior British sitcom...usually about ones most of haven't heard of, let alone seen unless you've caught them on PBS late on a Friday or Saturday? That's high comedy...
  7. This show is just gorgeous. As much as I enjoyed the third episode, something felt off... I'm not sure how to describe it though...something with the pacing I think. It felt like there were some jumps in the pace that seemed off...
  8. That was the only state with bigger numbers. Anything with Super Tuesday seemed generally small, particularly in proportion to the percentages Biden was getting otherwise.
  9. Did the "Uncommitted" vote really see that kind of showing? Because I wasn't seeing it that way, but then, I'm only a voter commenting on a message board dedicated to a fantasy book series, so what do I know?
  10. To be fair, all four that you mention, are still on all the time. If you only have basic cable, you're assured to have at least one of those shows on for hours at a time (during the day or late night) every single day. As mentioned yesterday. Also, Two and Half Men, Mom, King of Queens, and oddly enough, Golden Girls...
  11. There's no accounting for taste? But really, so? That's not something I'm going to argue against. Friends is popular. Neither those who love it or dislike it can accurately explain why. It puts numbers in syndication because of how it's played in syndication most likely. It's also a product of that 90s nostalgia that seems to permeate so much pop culture these days. Also, it's 9am here CST. I'm looking at the cable guide and Friends is on TBS right now, and will be for the next 6 hours...that kind of syndication coverage doesn't hurt. It has some really great bits, no arguments (love or hate Ross, "PIVOT!" is a brilliant bit). I'm just someone who's not going to choose to watch it if I'm presented with a choice of Friends or just about anything else.
  12. Interesting. Because that's exactly how I feel about Friends. As mentioned above, Friends was one of the whitest of white shows and had an air of its own superiority about it. I never could understand how they were actually Friends. Yes, I did watch it. And as mentioned above about HIMYM, I've never felt the need to revisit it. There were a few really good moments but the rest was generally forgettable. The concept as wasn't even very original, how did it last 10 seasons? Granted the HIMYM concept probably didn't need to go 9 seasons, but it came from a more original conceit...
  13. Caught up on the first two episodes today and damned if this isn't everything I want from my television. More please. And I say this even knowing I'm struggling to, at times, keep up with who's who without a list of the various cast of characters to continually flip back to and reference until I figure it all out... I'm only ever really taken out of a scene when the translating Jesuit is out and about without his hat...the hair cut/piece the actor is sporting doesn't seem very good...
  14. Season 2. The episode is, "Swarley". Also one of the better episodes from the early years. The one where Marshall and Lily finally get back together. Guest starring Morena Baccarin.
  15. Isn't it at least a little significant that this SC ruling refused to state unequivocally that Trump did not participate in an insurrection, as the Colorado Court did? Wasn't that a major piece of what he wanted from this?
  16. Despite the decent chances of it being decent in Wisconsin, we're still contemplating taking the kids out of school to drive to Mrs. Jax's hometown in Ohio where it's going to be even better...
  17. Ross. Always Ross. Ted may have been more deliberate in his telling of his tale, an idea that presents his character as possibly being more than he truly was. I can, usually, forgive him (but don't get me started on the finale...) as he alternates from making himself be too good to be true, and also too pathetic. But Ross was just the worst. Agree to diasgree. HIMYM is (except for the last 30 minutes of the show) entirely more re-watchable than Friends. HIMYM's ability to maintain its internal timeline and consistency is remarkable. It's use of running gags was a highlight. One of it's est gags was it's piss take on Friends during the second season. Ultimately, it's a personal choice for everyone, but I'll always take HIMYM over Friends. Hard to disagree here, but I think Perry doesn't get enough respect. It's a travesty he never quite was able to find a vehicle to showcase his talents post Friends. But he was an absolute favorite of mine as one of the guest cast on The Good Wife. As for rankings, it's hard, as has been mentioned, none of the Friends are actually great people: 1. Chandler 2. Joey 3. Monica 4. Rachel 5. Phoebe 6. Ross
  18. Another reasonable and learned argument for any trials to go forward as soon as possible and regardless of the election cycle... which is why we know the Supremes will eff it up.
  19. I'm not always a fan of Politico, but this is a pretty good article on the Trial timeline...
  20. Bad Batch remains strong in its final season. The score is just fantastic this year too.
  21. And pn a schedule to almost ensure nothing before the election. It's as if Robert's looked at things and said, "Have we lit the Court's reputation on fire using jet fuel? The kerosene was nice, but Inreally want to toast marshmallows..."
  22. Then I think you're underestimating how the media coverage is going to impact things. "But her e-mails!" isn't a thing because it's a funny meme. It's the natural consequence of how the media fails.
  23. Everyone seems to want to ignore one very important factor in all of this over the 13% and how most should be coming back to the fold come November (I hope that's right): The media in the United States has failed, and chosen (for the most part) to continue to fail, the American people. Instead of spending a disproportionate amount of time, let alone an equal amount, on the math that is the Republican Primary results, in MI as well as SC and Iowa, etc...and how those numbers should be panicking the Republicans, were deluged with, "Why this is Bad for Biden". And it's that narrative that helps Trump and the Republicans come November. Because the media needs to make this a horse race, rather than simply focusing on the facts that Trump is a hefty albatross around the neck of the party that should be making it impossible for Republicans to get reelected. So yeah, use that meaningless primary vote to express your distaste for this media, and social media, fueled perception that Biden hasn't done, and isn't doing anything, about Gaza. The media is going to focus on the part that isn't supposed to matter, but it'll make for better ratings. And that's going to be what helps Trump in November because people are going to become sour and stay home. And if you think a man like Biden doesn't want to do more but is hamstrung by the overall politics of the entire situation, then not sure what you want to hear. Yes, he needs to be a little more public about what's going on behind the scenes, but at the same time, simply pulling the funding from Israel will only serve to destabilize that entire region even faster.
  24. Which, on its face, would be perfectly understandable in 1952, 1980, or maybe just about any other year. Lord knows I'm not in favor of what's happening in Gaza. It needs a solution yesterday. But I also know that there is zero solutions forthcoming with Rwpublicans in control of the White House, let alone Trump in control. Europe and the Middle East become two different theatres of the Wild West if Trump (or any Republican) is in power, as they'll turn their backs on Bibi and Putin and Iran and it'll be game on for those bastards. Again, you are not voting for Joe Biden in 2024. You're voting for the right to vote again in 2026, 2028, and beyond. You're voting for the right to be able to be able to have a chance to tell Joe Biden and the other leaders who have policies you disagree with. I understand the need, the right, to make those protests, but right now, one also has to weigh the entirety of the stakes at hand to see the chance for any hope for the Gazans, the Ukranians, and yes, the American people too.
