  1. Sad. It took so long to find out whether it will be renewed or canceled that it alone almost damaged the show's prospects.

I hope they find a new home and that HBO max execs get turned into trees.

  2. I could have sworn we had a Raised by Wolves thread, but I can't find it so I'm starting a new one, while the second season is still on.

The show is right up my alley, SciFi with a mystery element. Great thing about it is that it isn't based on any previous material, so anything can happen. And 'anything' indeed does happen.

Ridley Scott is an executive producer and has directed few episodes but I don't think he is in really in charge of the show.

Anyone who isn't a straight white male pretty much. What is it about that that bothers you so much?

What bothers me 'so much' is self righteous individuals trying to pass their own arbitrary beliefs as gospel.

Saying 'Anyone who isn't a straight white male pretty much' has the same merit as saying 'Anyone who isn't a straight black male pretty much'.

Can anyone explain what the rules are, or even what they should be for casting characters who are different to how they are written?

With historical figures it would seem obvious (don't change anything), but with fictional ones there doesn't seem to be any hard or fast rule.

Some miscasting creates uproar, while other similar situations are totally ignored. Is it just as simple as straight white men can be recast but under represented groups can't (which I'm fine with)?

All I know is if I was Adrien Brody I would be very pissed off with Peter Dinklage right now.

Looking back over the past 30 years you would lose probably 33-50% of male Oscar winners, some remarkable performances, if they had been cast more 'sympathetically'.

And just what groups are those? Tibetans? Inuits? I assume you have a precise formula of how much should each group on a planet be represented when casting for movie roles. Because otherwise 'under represented groups' means anything you want.

  5. I have a question about the first book and the series as a whole.

I'm about 20% in to the first book and this Mace Blackhail keeps getting away with evil buslshit because because most of characters are complete fools. He actually rapes a woman then gets away with it. This is very frustrating to me and I wonder if the book is worth reading.

The mystery with the girl Ash in a tower is very intriguing but the stupid clansmen thing is infuriating and off putting.

Is the whole book like this? Are other books in the series? When does he get out of the picture?

I don't mind evil characters, but I can't stand it when they keep succeeding purely because nearly everyone around them is an idiot.

I mean, they were pretty shitty from around the LaTrell Sprewell incident (which was..1997) to Curry being drafted (so throughout the aughts).  But even then I think the Clippers were still viewed as the worst franchise - even if Elton Brand gave them a few good years.  Off the top of my head the Wizards and Bobcats/Hornets have to be in the running too.  Either way I think it's odd to describe them as one of the NBA's perennial basement dwellers just because of that downswing - they had quite a bit of success beforehand.

As for why they're so popular, I think the better question is why a hugely successful dynasty with a game-changing offense and one of the best/most important players of his generation located in a large media market wouldn't be so popular?

Thanks. Those other franchises that you mentioned are exactly who I associated them with. I had no idea that they had prior history of success.

I'm a casual basketball fan at best, but I noticed that on this forum, the other forum that I visit, and the NBA subreddit, the GSW are the team that pretty much everyone is rooting for.

I thought it looked good, was funny, and really captured the feeling of it. And the casting is perfect!

Ok, but have you seen anything in the trailer that you haven't seen before?

Very strange! I use Chrome as well and have never seen that.

Anyone else seen anything like it?

Do you see it when using an Incognito Window to turn off all extensions, I wonder?

It happens in the Incognito mode as well, but not in the Firefox. Keep in mind that I'm also the only one who experiences lag when using this board. Also only in Chrome, and not in Firefox. so, it might have something to do with me.

  9. Darryn Morey from Houston Rockets tweeted something in support of HK protesters and, of course, a shitstorm began. China immediately began economic punishment, and NBA is jumping through hoops to apologize and appease them.

Here is a clip showing a reporter ask 2 stars a question at a press conference about the incident and is immediately shut down.

This is CCP dictatorship pouring into the US.

...So what's up Trey's ass about China?  Didn't really get that episode.  Liked the first one this season though.

What do you mean? China is rapidly growing more authoritarian and at the same time more influential in the 'free world', especially entertainment, and everybody is kissing their asses in hopes that they would be allowed to make some money on a Chinese market. Fuck China, and fuck anyone who's bending over to them.

It warms my heart that there are still (sadly, very few) people in entertainment industry who are willing to stand up to them.

Death metal part was hilarious, especially after writing a song on a acoustic guitar.

Interesting. There's no apparent CPU usage going on in that image, and the memory is not particularly high.

Could I ask you to consider clearing your browser cache -- specifically, clear images and files, cookies probably don't need to go -- then restart the browser and try the board for a bit and see if that improves anything?

I just did it and it's all the same. But it's still possible that the issue is on my side, specifically chrome since there are no issues with firefox.

    @Ckram

I've always used Chrome, and don't see an issue. Do you folks have any extensions in common? If you use SHIFT+ESCAPE to show the Chrome task manager, how much memory is being used by a tab set to the forum? How about multiple tabs?

By way of comparison, this tab where I'm typing right now is at 94MB, and slowly ticking a bit upward because Ajax calls are taking place to keep abreast of my typing and so on. This is pretty normal for a tab. But maybe something is causing you guys to get some kind of runaway memory issue, either an extension or something in the code that isn't affecting me but is affecting others.

If you could message me with a screencap of a fresh Chrome task manager with one or several tabs open -- it will reveal some information regarding your extensions, so bear that in mind -- it would be useful.

ETA: I should add that we haven't made any changes at all in the last few months to the system. Maybe time to do the long-overdue software upgrade, see if that helps...

To me when using chrome, board seems to lag like a video game when ping is high. It takes a moment, maybe half a second, for a page to react to scrolling, clicking etc.
