Loved that Harrenhal wasn't an animated clockwork machine in the opening credits. It was a hollow ruin, just sitting there. Drove home the point that it's a menacing, dead husk and eerily counterpoints all the intro's mechanical castles. QARTH! Loved, loved, LOVED Qarth's appearance on the map, and the way the camera soared high above Westeros, zoomed past the burning astrolabe, and dollied straight onto Qarth. I cannot wait for the map to expand further. I want to see them play around more with the intro's camerawork.

Also, what Melisandre whispered to Matthos was absolutely chilling: I've read the books, but that sinister foreshadowing has me dreading

Had to go back and check again. You're right! That was a brilliant touch. Guess it has to do with his old job as a dyer's apprentice (can't remember if the book ever touched on that). Still weirds me out how slavish this show is to some minute details, and how lenient it is to more obvious stuff.

Too bad. No Shireen means no Patchface either. Would have been interesting to see the creepy jester I-know-I-know-oh-oh-oh his way to the screen.

I love how the writers re-contextualized that line from Clash. Hope we get to see more classic lines from the books given new life and layers in the series.

Compared to Davos' and Matthos' drab seaweed cloaks, he had very extravagant clothes. He also sported an exotic scabbard. What was flamboyant was his swaggering pimp-walk when he bid them adieu. Loved the bit where he made it look like he was going to make a grab for Matthos, and Matthos literally jumped away from him.

I listened closely to that bit, and it seems like that statement was deliberately left ambiguous. It did not confirm nor deny that Stannis has a female child.
