  1. I can't shave with a razor, I end up getting crazy folliculitis and ingrown hairs. Saw a dermatologist about it a few years ago and they gave me a couple products to try to minimize the irritation, but to no avail. I use an electric beard trimmer on my face but anything setting shorter than a 5 o'clock shadow is going to cause problems for me. I imagine if I shaved my head I'd have the same issues.
  2. try slicking it back with no product straight out of the shower, put on a hat to hold it place as it dries for an hour or so, then apply the gel. worked for me when I needed to keep my curly long hair under control for a wedding or something when I used to have long hair. ymmv.
  3. You just know there was 'weird sex stuff' going down in those Istari cults
  4. I believe the idea that Bakker was trolling everyone came from some of his responses in a reddit AMA?
  5. In the middle of a thunderstorm here, listening to The Harder They Come, this tune in particular is hitting hard Draw yer brakes, Scotty
  6. Apologies if this is something you've already tried but have you done the "hidden bomb" trick? Offer her a treat (I used chunks of cooked chicken), with no pill in it. Give it to her. If she's in good enough shape to earn it by sitting (or any other command) do that. Repeat 3-4 times. Then slip in the one with the pill. Have it ready before hand so she doesn't see you fucking with it. Usually they are so focused at that point they aren't looking for a pill and just inhale it. Other option is the 'dropped' treat method, same thing, hand-feed a couple bits of chicken and then 'accidentally' drop one with the pill, usually they scarf it up with less caution.
  7. "Life is a gradual release from ignorance"- Bob Braudis Really though this thread should just be Mitch Hedberg bits.
  8. Said goodbye to Darcy today. Like which Tyler said up thread, you're never ready. Been with this dog since I was an idiot 23 year old, we lived in a van, on a boat, on both coasts, in the woods. I was working as a landscaper in San Diego and planting a bunch of shit at a some bougie dog rescue by Wind-and-Sea and she ran right up to me and followed me around all day and at the end of the day the woman who ran the rescue asked me if I wanted to take her for a couple days. Does anyone ever bring the dog back? She swam in the Pacific and Atlantic and Great Lakes. She climbed the highest mountains in the eastern US multiple times and was always chomping at the bit for more, was an amazing trail dog comfortable cowboy camping in the rain and sleeping next to a fire in subfreezing temps. She didn't see snow until she was five years old, yet immediately knew the best thing to do was roll in it and thrash around. Had a nasty run in with a porcupine that taught her absolutely nothing; a day later she went after one into he same location but was leashed this time. Never saw a truck bed she wouldn't jump up into or a cat she wouldn't chase, though she lived peaceably with several felines in her later years. At work she always wanted to stand on whatever wall I was building, and was comfortable climbing up and down the scaffolding. So weird being in the house without her here. I think I've spent more time with her than with any human. Why have we not solved mortality in dogs yet?
  9. Spent some time looking through this album, so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful animal. Your family is clearly a wonderful place for animals to be, hope you are all managing beat you can. What a dog
  10. @RhaenysBee I hear you. My dog is in a similar place. I will say that if yours is eating, has some enthusiasm for walks and anything else it's a good sign that there's some quality time remaining. She turned 16 recently and while I'm carrying her up and down the stairs most of the time she still is super excited when I pick up the leash and wants to walk until she collapses a few times a day. I am kind of terrified of what it's going to be like when she's gone, she's been with me the last 15+ years and while I'll be relieved she's at rest I also know it's going to be a total mindfuck. Hoping for a speedy recovery for your pup and plenty of lazy days enjoying the finer things
  11. If you alternately read one random book from Malazan and one random book from Abercrombie, and repeat till you're out of books, it's like the fantasy equivalent of synching up The Wizard of Oz to Dark Side of the Moon.
  12. I have three or four Kay books I've scored for a quarter at thrift stores but haven't ever gotten around to reading them. Separately, 27 pages? This thread is an abomination. I feel dirty and corrupted even posting on the 21st page of a thread. This feels transgressive and I kind of like it. eta: egaaaads!!? 28!
  13. If you're really bored, the old threads on this board from 2010-2016 (and probably earlier) have some really good discussion speculation buried in them but there's also probably a lot of nonsense. You'd also be looking at a lot of spoilers for The Judging Eye and White Luck Warrior. There was a bunch of really cool riffing on math, philosophy, gnosticism, the metaphysics of Earwa, and a bunch of crackpot ideas, some of which were cooler than what actually happened in the books.
  14. Ha! Well there's another long cave sequence in in one of the ones you passed on if you ever feel the call of the karst.
  15. @ op - This has all been touched upon by others, but my reading is this: 1) Re: circumfixion: while I will always have a special place in my heart's butt for the Heart in the Butt Theory, I think Kellhus perfoms a 'miracle'. He has, in his near death state, allowed the Outside in a bit, and managed to transcend place, and is able to literally reach to his breast or rib or whatever and all of a sudden Serwe's dead burning heart is in his hand. 2) Moe using all his Dunyainity couldn't see past the circumfixion. Probably because it's an example of what comes before failing to determine what comes after. The metaphysics of Earwa don't necessarily become more apparent in TAE, but we do get a lot more information on what might have been going in both in the branches of Umiaki and at Kyudea. I don't think Bakker will ever write the duology, but if he does I'll- gladly buy it.
  16. Why isn't BLM doing more to reach out to white supremacists? How are they ever going to change hearts and minds?
  17. I'll trust the people who organized this made the best decision for them. We saw videos last summer of cops marching with BLM protestors and then 20 minutes later kettling them, pepper spraying them, and arresting them. Trust is earned.
  18. Oh damn, yeah. My heart goes out to you man. Dealing with this now too. Darcy, a red heeler mix, will be 16 next month. About a year ago had to start carrying her up the stairs once or twice a month if she over did it running around the yard, but now for last month or so I've been carrying her up and down the stairs about 50% of the time. Her quality of life is still great but I don't think that's going to be the case for much longer, she has tumors in her mouth and ear and I think her mind is starting to go as well.
  19. Just saw a clip of an interview with the head of NYPD saying that he considers anyone who has been protesting police brutality in NY to be criminals, not protesters. He should be fired immediately.
  20. Careful, this was something of a third rail on one of these threads recently. For what it's worth, I agree that the 2nd amendment is a major contributor to police violence, particularly to the paranoid, trigger-happy, mindset of your average cop. I also think this country is so far beyond the point where we would have any realistic path to reducing the number of firearms out there. Edit: and bring on the warning shots
  21. There has to be a better alternative, technology wise, than either taser or shoot to kill. We've seen, even if you just look at the last year, that US cops fucking LOVE to use pepper spray and rubber bullets on civilians. I'm not advocating using this shit on protesters, and the effects of "less-lethal" weapons are often tragic and sometimes fatal, but there has got to be a lot of room for some R&D on the tech end with a goal of "Maybe just incapacitate a person who is a potential threat with something that is very unlikely to kill them". I mean we put people on the goddamn moon. edit: to be clear - I think the entire training processes for cops to deal with a potential threat are seriously flawed. I'm just throwing this out as another angle that might drop the deaths by police.
