  1. Because I don't see it adding much to Tyrion's story, tbh. It would relieve him of a lot of his guilt and make him less complex IMO. Maybe that's my lack of imagination, but the most obvious implications for the story I see all affect Dany more than Tyrion.
  2. Same, but since I do buy into this theory i didn't post it :p
  3. I know this one is controversial and it's maybe split in the fandom, but I like the theory that Tyrion is a Targ. The reason I like it though, is not for what it does for the current story, but because it makes Tywin's backstory so much richer. If he knows, then his whole relationship with Aerys makes more sense and is more tragic. Particularly the move Aerys made in denying Jaime as his heir and leaving Tyrion in his place, like a changeling baby. I don't know if i buy it though, because of the repercussions for the current story, It's repetitive and I'm not sure what it adds. It gives Dany a third dragon rider and ... that's it? Gives her another trigger for betrayal? Does she need another?
  4. Nah, he's letting us virtually dance on his grave now, which contributes to well lived lives for the rest of us.
  5. Well, I was thinking more like DM approved. So yeah.
  6. I've been popping out to observe it here (80%) and this last time right before peak you could really notice the difference in daylight and temp and the owls are hooting. Love it. Not as cool as a total eclipse, but still pretty awesome.
  7. I was actually thinking about this after I posted. It might be kinda fun for the DM to perhaps pick out some ability that the PC would get at the next level and allow the player to have one of two uses of it to use at their discretion before they actually level up. Like a caster might be able to produce a reduced power fireball, but only that one time when they need it. Or a fighter might be able to shrug off a bit more damage to mimic a HP gain. Maybe the Rogue can add an extra Dex bonus point to a lockpick or other skill. Just little things to suggest that they are learning through their adventures, but haven't mastered it yet.
  8. This is why I prefer the milestone style of leveling. Yeah, the problem still exists and obviously you have to have some level of suspension of disbelief in this game, but it makes sense to me that after big arcs or meaningful adventures the party advances. I know you mentioned this upthread, but I also really enjoyed how you gave the PCs specific perks that were related to gameplay. When I healed a lot, I got small perks to my healing spells and when I was frustrated by something you gave me an option to make it a bit easier to do what I wanted. Nothing OP, just a nice nod to what our characters would be thinking about and working on during their adventures. Cheers
  9. You guys are poisoning the well with the commentary on Anthony. I was interested to see a blind take!
  10. OK, this is a podcast I am interested in listening to! Not that I'm not with some of the rest, it's just that I would love your take on his work. Can I ask what you'll be reading, if you know at this point? Xanth and Incarnations of Immortality are his most well known series.
  11. oof. Sure you wanna do that? Should be an interesting re-read.
  12. Late to the party, but the photo posted was behind the scenes from S2. It's the part where Rand is dreaming and looking at all the dead bodies of all his friends - you can see blood splattered on most of them. It doesn't indicate anything about the future of the series.
  13. In Iowa the problem is not pre-registering. The problem is it's a fucking caucus and the weather is going to be absolutely shitty. Fuck that. Despite that, I'd make an effort for a dem caucus without an incumbent, otherwise, not so much. Caucuses are stupid.
  14. Putting it on a globe is nice. Tech is fun. I've always been fascinated by maps, real or imagined. I remember watching a youtuber describe how to create your own world with realistic climate and currents and biomes - lots of info I never planned to use, but was eating it all up anyway.
  15. Then make sure you leave some room for it in your campaign Maybe an NPC can start up a conversation instead of just being an answer machine or quest giver. Ask them how they set up camp or describe a weird event that happens while traveling (not something that looks like a hook for distraction, just an ice breaker - the horse is spooked by a coyote and needs to be calmed, or it starts to lightly rain and describe how cold and uncomfortable they are becoming. Get them bitching about it.
  16. That's cool if they are into it. As for voices, I'd emphasize a frame of mind rather than an actual different voice (unless they are super comfortable with that). Are they talkative or kind or bold or a braggart? Also maybe give them some simple prompts for a backstory so they have a direction (how did you learn your skills, what's your family like, what's your favorite memory, etc) That way it doesn't seem like they have to write up a whole ass backstory, but they also know who their character is and how they'd react in different situations.
  17. I have a couple of the Lankhmar books too that I've never read. Apparently it's cool to just show them off on the bookcase, eh?My friend who got me into DnD named the cat my aunt took home - it was Gray Mouser He lived his life mostly being called Mouse, but I knew who he really was. (despite never having read the books)
  18. As a young teenager we did pop some popcorn and watch a shitty tape of Mazes and Monsters on our Betamax. It was inspired by us after all, apparently.
  19. And you wonder why no one has any fun discussing the show with you.
  20. My issue is that ASOIFRelatedUserName hasn't actually tried to engage in discussion. We've been here for two seasons talking about why we liked or didn't like things in the show, they haven't. their main take seems to basically be 'it's not like the books'. That sounds an awful lot like the main criticism the White Cloaks or the Black Tower have to offer - it's not like the books, therefore it's bad and people who like it are not fans and the writers are trying to sabotage the show. So the wider discussion already has some built-in baggage. If you drop in and don't really offer any insights on the show other than to hate on it, then yeah, I will have a kneejerk reaction because the well has been poisoned.
  21. Hey, if the Chosen in the books were as interesting as they are on the show, then yeah, that would be worth reading. Most of them ... are not. Jace is wrong. :p
  22. Personally, I have always loved the story of WoT, but not the way it was written. There are some of us that are reveling in the fact that changes are being made. Please do not follow the books slavishly, because that's when I would stop enjoying it. They are not going to please everyone. And before anyone calls me 'not a real fan', let me assure you I am. Just because I don't enjoy it the same way or for the same reasons as you doesn't mean I am not a fan of the series or that your way to enjoy it is the right way.
  23. Not the first run or anything, but it was the Advanced D&D Monster Manual with the bad art on the cover. It would have been in the early 80s. I can still picture the drawing of the catoblepas. For some reason, that monster has stuck with me for all these years, even though I've never played with one.
