  1. I clicked the link and it took me to your Discord, then I realized I haven't used it in a while and had to look up my account info. After all that, the link expired. So ... new invite please? Sorry for the bother.
  2. Um ... maybe? I just noticed this thread and lo and behold there is an invitation at the end. I feel like I'm jumping ahead in line by replying to this. Also feeling guilty because you're the one who wanted to play and not DM. This is stupid because I'm feeling really nervous about even the possibility of joining a game with strangers - who aren't really strangers because I read and reply to your posts all the time (well, I am more of a lurker, but I've been around). I started playing in the early 80s but then took a looooong break. Figured out some of my friends had a game going and for a stretch we played pretty regularly. Then weddings and kids blah blah and it became an occasional game. I haven't played for over 5 years at this point. So maybe put me as an interested stand-by? (Also, before a trip the the Czech Republic last year, I read the hell out of your blog, Relic. Thanks!)
  3. Cheryl or Carol is a the name some people give the show version of Cersei because she doesn't resemble the book Cersei. Carol and Larry (Jaime) is the combo I most see.
  4. Bleah. Not a fan. They beginning was ok, but they lost me as soon as Jon turned his back on sad Ghost. Didn't get better from there. Wait - I lied. Tyrion and Varys had a conversation that *almost* didn't include dicks. That was - sort of - refreshing.
  5. She could have helped her people that were in the crypt with her. She was 10 times the leader at Blackwater than she was here moaning about Dany and calling everyone useless.
  6. The fact that they killed the NK in ep 3 seems like bad pacing, but if you consider last season and this as one whole, then it's better. But making Cersei the big bad end boss just pisses me off. Mel was pretty underwhelming compared to book Mel who ignites hawks in flight. They wasted the wightification of Edd and little Mormont. Make Sam kill Edd after he died to save him, jeez. And stop making Sam a blubbering coward. Yes, I know he fought, but he was shitting his pants the whole time. He's come a long way - give him some respect. Sansa - use that fucking dagger you coward. Fight for your people. They did do a good job of making things seem hopeless near the end, I'll give them that.
  7. Hey, this is one of my favorites too. My great aunt was named Eleanor and I always admired her. She was strong and independent as a young woman in the early 1900s. Got a college degree and moved to DC on her own in the 20s, which apparently my g-grandmother had fits about. So yeah, I always associate the name with strong and bold women. I'm kind of sad that the origin of the name is lost.
  8. I am also surprised that this rated so many 10s. It was fun, but more like a summer blockbuster than a thought provoking thriller. And that's fine, you need some of that in your life, but ... yeah, I'm just surprised by the overwhelming 10s.
  9. I think it only rated a 6. People who rate it so highly confuse me - if this was a 9 or 10, then what are you going to rate it when a truly great episode emerges? The episodes have really only been set-up so far and have been nothing special. yes, I liked that Ramsey killed Roose, Tyrion interacting with the dragons and that Jon is back, but none of that was done especially well. It's been pretty by the numbers and balanced out by some pretty mediocre writing and awkward choices. I expect there will be some Hardhome-like bad-assery at some point, but we ain't there yet.

    Fixed for me, thanks.

    Board Issues 4

Thank goodness it wasn't just me. I was wondering how I was even going to ask about this issue if I couldn't post (this post made from Explorer). I wasn't able to create a new post or use quote feature to get the box ungreyed.
  12. Rated it a 4 because there were some good moments, but overall the big scenes missed for me. My biggest dissappointment was 'for the Watch'. It wasn't impactful. Yes, I know that separating the book and show is something I should try to take into account, but it's nearly impossible. That scene, while probably shocking for non-book readers, left me feeling meh. Cersei's walk was good. I thought Heady killed it with her acting. I wasn't fond of the bell-ringing sister shouting shame over and over - yes, we get it, it's a walk of shame. Arya killing Trant was fine, but again, it was too over the top feral for me. I know, she's a tiny rage filled killer, but it was just off for me. And the scene at the face vault was too non-sensical for me. I like that in the books the faces are bonded with blood magic and not just hand-waved into 'a wizard did it' type magic that anyone can apparently do if they can get ahold of a face. And The bit where she pulls off face after face? No thank you. I don't feel like they handle supernatural at all well. In my opinion, this ranks with the Children of the forest throwing magical fireballs like a schlocky sword and sorcery movie. The magic should have gravitas and weight. Anyway, it's still mainly fine, but too many things felt off and overall it left me feeling dissappointed at nearly every turn.

    Board Issues 4

no current problems, but I thought I'd give an update on an old one. I couldn't change my member title (original post here). I was having the same problem again, but this time I checked all the fields. In the 'Contact Methods' area, the 'website' field had 'www.htpp//' already filled in. I've never touched that field and didn't have any issues changing anything before, but I tried erasing it so the field was totally blank. That did the trick - no problems saving. Just in case you run across this problem again.
  14. No, of course not, but I think that each epic scene needs a little breathing room. I am concerned that there is too much to fit into the finale and not be just overloaded. We shall see, I guess, but I would have preferred seeing them spread out a little.
  15. It's not that I minded Shae turning all spiteful against Tyrion, it's that the show runners knew this was going to be the end result and decided to make Shae all 'I'd kill to protect that girl' over Sansa. You can make Shae kindly towards Sansa, but there was no reason to make a huge point of it. The inconsistency just stuck out like a sore thumb.
  16. Ugh - show Shae is just ... ugh. I understand her motivation to go against Tyrion, but why did they have her drag Sansa into it? I know it's probably the lie Cersei fed her, but then why did they go out of their way to show Shae as Sansa's defender. Boo show runners for inconsistency.
  17. Eponine - I can't really refute anything you say, it's all in there. I still have mad love for Lions (and most of his other books, too). It takes a certain mindset, however, to be in the mood to read him. I have to kind of settle into it.
  18. Secretly wants to be the bee

  19. I did think about this, but there could have been some accommodation made. Just even mentioning the old gods would have sufficed for me. Also, as someone pointed out, having Karstark swear by the seven indicated it was probably sloppy rather than taking practical matters into consideration (no tree available).
  20. And the wight army was pretty creepy and menacing ... at first. The more they showed it, the less menacing it seemed. I mean, I liked the horse and the close up of the WW, but I think a glimpse rather than a lingering shot would have been better, and definitely more fog. It's hard not to compare it to the Walking Dead when you see it rather than imagine it, but I think being more vague and shadowy would have worked better.
  21. Yeah, the topper to the shit Robb/Talisa story was the wedding with the wrong gods. I understand why they wanted to beef up Robb's story this season, but it didn't work. I was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but now that the season is over, I guess the time for that is over. I was so dissappointed that we didn't get Robb/Cat's reaction to the news of Bran and Rickon's 'death'. Did I miss that along the line? Instead of giving us Talisa's backstory about why she wanted to be a healer, couldn't that have been time for Robb to react and grieve? It would still lead to sexy time, but it would have added a lot more than getting us to care about a throw away character. And I still don't understand why the hell she had to be foreign. It makes her more interesting (supposedly anyway) but it's not her job to be interesting. Make her the daughter of a minor Lord in the Riverlands if her family doesn't matter in the show version, but ... ugh. Did not like. Dany's story this season was not great. I know there was not much to work with, but even with adding extra conflict it did not work for me. The whole HotU didn't have any emotional impact for me. I am not getting into the whole visions and prophecy thing, what was shown/left out, but just as a whole I wasn't invested. In the show I like that Shae seems to love Tyrion, but I do miss the book Shae and Tyrion's delusions about her. I am not sure which is more tragic for Tyrion down the line.
  22. Like I said, I totally get why they made this decision for the show. It makes sense and Bywater is ultimately a throw-away character. I'd even say it was the right decision for the series. It was a purely emotional reaction, but I'm not one to get up in arms about the differences between the two. I will just remember that that's not really what happened and treasure the book version all the more.
  23. I believe Tyrion does make him captain of his personal guard that Bronn recruited for him. That may be what you're thinking of.
  24. I love the moment where Sam saves Gilly from Ghost and she tells him he is very brave. You can just about see Sam giving his heart up right then. It also shows how she would find him attractive. I have to admit, in the books it makes logical sense - she sees him as a protector, but I never really felt it. I love Edd and Grenn's conversation. I like the Night Watch secondary characters even more on screen. I totally understand Bronn being the Commander of the Goldcloaks, but my gut reaction was meh. In the books he was totally loyal to and dependant on Tyrion. His knighting and marriage was like a punch in the gut because it was yet another blow for Tyrion when things went to shit. I realize that Tyrion appointed him and can reasonably still count on him to be on his side, but Bronn is more independent now. But like i said, I can easily see how they made this decision and i still have my books. I can just pick and chose which bits of the series I want to incorporate into my personal canon. Gonna echo that Heady really didn't do it for me last season, but so far this season I have really come to like her in the role. It's possible that it's because she's playing off Tyrion, and those two are gold together.
