  1. Just finished season 3. Some elements of it were very good, even excellent. The overall plot and storytelling bled from a thousands wounds, however, and sooooooo many questions remained answered and unaddressed. Many character arcs were told in reverse and many characters were annoying or even unlikable. I also had a conceptual issues, which may or may not be just a personal thing. Either way, they bothered me and took away from the entertainment value/ coherence of the story. It was averagely enjoyable, however, so there’s that and the highlights were truly great. I’d give it a.... 6.5/10

Ah! I dont know why I thought your study program was somewhere in Austria. were there no train options? Well, have patience and hold on! It’s this Facebook(?) challenge to minimize single use plastic in July. And yeah, I was quite surprised to hear such opinion from someone under the age of 40. There are 3 dogs at the moment, one of them is quite old and sickly and frail. The reason why she wants a dog is to fill the whole losing this dog will certainly cause. She originally came up with the idea last summer but for some inexplicable reason my mother had to link it to a performance objective - that she would be accept to university. Because you know, everything has to be about performance with my mother. She also claims though (my mother) that she’s no longer against a new dog as a puppy would make up for both her children moving out and her being lonely alone at home. Who the heck knows... Well random meeting people hasn’t exactly worked out so far, that’s why I’m still here being painfully single for the past two years. Awwww that’s so adorable! Well the objective is to do the got tour and go down to Dublin to spend a day or two there too, mostly because there’s a direct flight home from Dublin. It’s quite costly and complicated to get to Belfast from here apparently.

Holy moly where the heck are you going by bus? That’s an awful lot of time on a bus! Musings from me for your entertainment: A friend of mine doesn’t understand the relevance of plastic free July because climate change isn’t even a thing and plastic was invented to serve mankind. I mean... everybody is entitled to their own opinion? After many days of blissful quiet, dorm students are loud again. I’m not in the most positive and patient mindset these weeks and I’m experiencing a lot of adult life stress. Errands, new challenges in life, changes at work, financial dissatisfaction, etc. For this reason I’m getting increasingly tired of being sister’s living Google. This feeling will pass, but I do want to somehow train her to grow into responsibility and managing her own life, and above all, assertive communication, because lord knows she needs that. On the upside, the time hath cometh when my father actually listens to and values my opinions and insights. Who would have thought? The heatwave and the lack of sleep it brings about makes me so tired I want to go to a desert island and just sleep for a week. Sister wants a dog and there’s a whole discussion about how bad an idea it is to actually get her one since she’ll essentially be moving to the city to go to university. My mother is reliving the teenage rebellion phase she never had. She is so sick of having to adjust her opportunities and conference visits to weddings our family is invited to. It’s always her who has to make sacrifices and put herself and a conference appearance/research scholarship opportunity second because of these social obligations. That’s unfair and she’s just not going to do it! She goes to 5-10 domestic/international conferences yearly and does at least one research trip per year as well. And I don’t know who socialized me to put family obligations as tiny as appearance at my grandfather’s harvest or a second cousin’s baby’s christening before my entire teenage social life and friend group events. Oh wait, I do know. I did mention that a cute family bought my old couch. They had little kids who they brought along to pick up the sofa, they were so sweet and polite and helpful and positive, my ovaries are now screaming at me to get my ass on dating apps. Kids are sweet.

Not really, no. But it’s a process. I can’t wait for her to go to university and get her mind expanded and get an internship at a multinational company so she’ll finally learn assertive communication. For some reason this question is more complicated than it seems. The short(ish - because I swear there’s a longer) answer is that I did live there for quite a bit (5+ years) and then it was rented out for a while which makes all the furniture almost 8 years old and used by multiple people. In addition to this, and more importantly, the flat was only partially renovated when I moved in for budget and competence reasons. Nobody at that time had conscious plans for that flat and even less experience with housing, renovations or the real estate market of the city . Thus, some very important parts were casually skipped, built in closest from the 60s were left in, the kitchen was untouched after its 90s renovation and there was important machinery missing. Since then the economy, the market and the experience we/I have all changed. Having lived there I have a very good idea about what’s disfunctional about the flat and having process more online renovation and furnishing videos/articles than I can count, I now have a vision for how to make the most of and utilize the limited space a studio flat offers. And having spent over a year looking for a new flat and viewing 50+ flats, I also know how vastly a smart renovation could increase the market value of the flat be it for sale or rent. And of course sister wants new and shiny furniture that matches her own style but that’s really the least of it, the point of the renovation is to make up for the bits we skipped last time, make the space more functional and increase the market value of the flat. *breaths out* I bet you now regret asking (sorry, this is one topic I can ramble about endlessly) no, no cons, just the game of thrones tour and exhibition. Kids have such an intense interest in the world around them. They marvel at all things we walk straight past as we rush on about our busy business or just learned to take for granted. It’s really beautiful. Aww. I remember I had tons of stuffed bears and dogs. Yeah I can’t wait for my new sofa, it’s going to be so pretty, I hated the previous one so much... to see the game of thrones tour. But everybody is so surprised to hear I want to visit there. Is there any reason why it’s not a good destination for a short vacation? All I have seen online is the stunningly beautiful scenery in the area and great tours to explore it. Seems like a lovely place to visit to me.

I truly have no idea about music. I was and still am interested in way too many things but unfortunately music somehow didn’t make that cut. I’m that person with a trash taste in music whose Spotify playlists consist of Top Hits by Decade, Disney, film soundtrack and medieval(ish) instrumental music. that sounds adorable. There’s a small lake near my current place of residence that has lots of ducks too. And those little machines that give you duckfood for some coins. Lots of kiddos hang out there too, with the same love for ducks. I sold my current sofa, a very cute family bought it, the guy came with his daughter to pick it up today. So that’s done. I’m also selling furniture from my previous flat so I can start organizing the renovations so they’ll be completed in the next 6 months and sister can move in. I’m also trying to book a freaking flight to Belfast which is virtually impossible unless you are willing to pay the price of a transatlantic flight. I hope you all noticed that this paragraph above was all in the first person. I am doing these things. Me myself and I. Instead of other people. And I’m happy to help and improve my own life skills and project management skills so I don’t expect gratitude or anything in return. I just expect people to not give me shit while I’m running errands for them. /rant

Listened to these, not exactly my type of music, but I’m glad you love the new albums. Also, hope your fiancée is feeling better now. Is mini sith a good health professional? Does she have one of those little toy medical kits to “treat” sick family members? I remember doing that all the time.

Acrophobia 35B: Death Comes As The End, Final Round Voting!!

    1. 1 - whoever put this together deserves to win the game 2. 7 3. 4 and @honeyed chickenthank you very much for your kind words of appreciation. I’m pretty sure all my entries scream that English isn’t my first language, but hey, I do learn a lot playing acrophobia and just reading the entries you guys submit, so what the heck. It’s an absolutely fun way to polish my declining English, that gets so little use in my everyday life.

That sounds just like what I need. Oh my... how did I not see this coming? sounds like things are going well with... things. Glad to hear that! Thank you! That’s why we’ll start with hunting down this pirate treasure. Sounds like the pilot of a fantasy drama on Netflix, right? Hello Meera, long time no see. How is life? Oh you lucky lady! Cute baby, motivation to exercise, what more can one want? glad to hear you’re in a good mood!

I mean okay, as Long as these pirates with the treasure are sexy. Well this is one of those weeks when I’m second guessing my very existence, so trust in myself is kinda scarce. Hope to sleep this attitude off over the weekend though very happy for you and all the great things happening So the weather is much milder than yesterday. It’s around 27C and I could finally air the flat a little. Hope to continue this tonight. Apart from this, my blood pressure is like 300 and I’m so pissed at my workplace I can’t wait to throw a tantrum on Monday at my half year evaluation meeting. No, of course I won’t to that literally, but I’ll calmly and assertively assess all issues I currently have with my job. And update my resume. Pfff.

Vienna Airport sounds good to me. We have to make a stop first though, and rob a bank or something to be able to afford all this. I guess you are all great, at the end of the day it usually comes down to who they want to work with in terms of attitude. That sounds like what I would do in your place. But I make terrible life choices so maybe try the opposite? Oh thank you! Here is a human being who recognizes the fact that successfully finishing high school is a milestone in itself. Would you ever want to coach my parents on how to be a human being?

Yeah I see. I’m sorry there’s so little security and guarantee in the academic career. Though they would be stupid to not choose you, because you do sound like the optimal candidate. Then again I don’t know anything about other PhD students who are also hoping to get the same academic job. Okay, I see. That sounds like a good deal financially. and if you were to opt for teaching in a public school and get a stable job, would that mean you have to completely give up the academic line? Could the two live next to one another with the compromise that your PhD would take longer? Just so you could keep your options open and find a way that gets you a stable job but also doesn’t close the opportunity to switch to an academic career when you want to. Of course, leaving options open is a slippery slope to indecision, which is not a positive thing, I would know, it’s the bane of my entire twenties. So maybe ignore everything I said so far and maybe the wise thing is to commit to either of the options. also i have to tell the internet that it was 38C today, because I haven’t complained about the weather in a while. The inner city is mostly inhabitable because it stinks and you can’t walk two meters without dripping with sweat in all the place you never knew could sweat. Yesterday we were at a team building picnic, and yes we did walk in the hills with full backpacks of food and drinks. But because my boss is pregnant we were spared the joy of hiking up to the viewpoint at 12:30 in the 35C. Then I took the chairlift to get down, a bus, a tram and a subway to arrive one hour later to my post-finals meeting place to have late lunch with sister, who screwed up the oral part of her finals. She is still highly likely to be admitted to the uni of her choice but she was disappointed of course by the inelegant and slightly embarrassing end results. She is way better at literature and French than to have these final scores, but what can you do? Lots and lots of drama around this whole uni application business

    Watch, Watched, Watching: Getting Sneaky

For some inexplicable reason I decided to continue watching the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale And it quickly reminded me of why I stopped watching in the first place. Season 1 was well produced and enjoyable if someone is into sociopolitical dystopias. But season 2 is a complete trainwreck in terms of plot, storytelling and narrative. And characters too kinda. All this story does is keep circling and circling around the same thing they have established ten thousand times over: this is a horrible world where women are oppressed and abused by religion and men. There is literally no progress in the story whatsoever. Every single time we try to move forward or backwards or sideways, we always always come back to the same exact setup and prototypical scenes because all this show aims to do is shock me with how horrible this world is and how oppressed the women are- as if I didn’t get it for the first 9999 times. It is so boring and so repetitive and frankly the point came where I just no longer care and the awful scenes do nothing for me because I’ve seen all of them ten times already. Not to mention that in season 2 common sense was also casually thrown out of the window like nobody’s business. I mean how stupid can these characters be? And not just as a collective, a tyrannical system that is supposed to be stupid. As individuals and small groups as well. The lost potential is just piling and piling and piling. Ugh, it is so bad. So so bad.

Hmm, I thought your moving next semester was a decided and scheduled event. Are you having second thoughts about that or do I misunderstand and there’s another case of moving? I honestly have no idea about PhDs. I literally only know two people from my generation who did one (excluding you). There was little money in it but they loved what they were doing. I think if you aim for an academic career it is a must, though, isn’t it? I don’t know how it is at your university, but at my mom’s, they are over the moon with joy when they have a rate PhD student because they need to secure succession in the faculties. Maybe it’s different at your uni? As for teaching jobs, is the difference in expected income significant enough for you to do something you don’t enjoy? I’m all right, thank you.
