GRRM swears fealty to Tolkien in this ASOIAF Easter Egg

What is IT? Me and Mike Patton need to know.

I disagree but i'm biased. You caught me out. I'll leave town never to post again.

    Meh it's just conversation.

On that note why would it have been removed? I don't get that. This and some other comments make it sound like people are criticizing without having read the post. He's talking 80's (mostly) movies thematic and actor parallels. Arnold Schwarzenegger and several of his movies and he was THE 80's movie star. Alyssa Milano may have been the it girl then or maybe it was just movie roles she was in as he stated. The theory was about GRRM's influences and so her age when he started writing isn't relevant.

I'm quoting because I don't know how to work the @ either. I agree he really went over the top selling the various theories. I will say about the top secret theory in following it all way to the end and then with a little Googling I can see what hes talking about in regards to GRRM taking flak. He points at sex with an under age Alyssa Milano as part of the as Azor Ahai inspiration. I wasn't aware at the time but Alyssa Milano has somewhat recently come out and said that she was in fact assaulted as a minor and she is a leading member of the #MeToo movement so yeah that looks pretty bad if true and in my opinion there's too much to discount offhand without motive to do so. Personally I love reading any decent theory. What else would we do on these forums?

It is far easier to criticize than innovate. That being said I don't see these guys being as harsh as all that. I've seen, and experienced, much worse here. I was a doubter on the Top Secret Theory and I was swayed. Maybe not every facet but in general. There's just so many coincidences and parallels. By volume alone it starts to defeat Occam's Razor.
  7. Absolutely. Beating a 13 year old girl, or rather having someone more manly do it for you, intimidates no one. Quite the opposite.
  8. In a pride of lions the lioness' are the territorial ones and the hunters. The males just war. That's Tywin, Jaime and Cersei dead nuts.

Somehow despite my excellent argument you are swaying me. I do believe im on board!

Lot. From the bible. Admittedly it's imperfect, there's letters leftover but that's the point.

Are you thinking of the house named after Robert Jordan?

I read all that the first time but once you get into imperfect wordplay, i.e. hey look I can make this word, it loses cohesion dude. I love the idea and it sounds like something he would do, though for the life of me I don't get it. Tolkien is very overrated IMO. I don't get what you're saying about Lord Harroway's Town. Oh I see because Lord is in the title. I want it to be real but it's just not there IMO. It's probably a coincidence but this is near Darry whose sigil is the black plowman and of course Schwarzenegger means black plowman so maybe there's a tie in to your other theory somehow.

    House Toyne a cadet branch?

I do think they had many cadets, fitting for a symbol like a stag. There's the Wensingtons and Bollings already. I agree a cadet will usually take a sigil inline with the main house but not necessarily. Like the Karstarks you mentioned using a sun rather than the wolf of Stark. The other two cadet houses in the Storm lands do not use the name which I have to think is fairly rare, having evolved organically. I don't think a play on words to be out of the realm of possibility. And yeah the colors by themselves don't mean much, really it was just what sparked the notion. I'm not really invested in the notion but it does make the Toyne brothers thing more interesting if they have Baratheon blood. It may even make Simon Toyne more understandable, he's kin of the stag and it may have been rutting season! His brothers may have inherited a little of that famous fury. To go that extra step out if Targaryen blood is involved it could help explain how Toyne land became Targaryen summer palace. Not that it's needed of course but it's a possible connection, however nebulous. EDIT: After a quick glance I see cadet branches sharing the name is more common than I was thinking but if indeed the black heart comes from black hart, a female of the line then I do think it makes sense for them to have a different name.

    House Toyne a cadet branch?

I was poking around the Wiki and figured I would brush up on my House Toyne and a thought occurred to me after noticing their colors are the same as House Baratheon/Durrandon. A Cadet branch perhaps? In looking for supporting clues, and expecting not to find enough to prove this but then food for thought is fine with me, I got to thinking about something I saw on the House of the Week Reddit about House Tarly and their sword Heartsbane being a play on hart, a female deer, and them being hunters of course. What if this black heart of Toyne was that same play on words? Perhaps a faithful knight married to the black haired daughter of some Storm Lord or King. In pushing the thought further it occurs to me, and this is even thinner, I know, but the wings on the heart could be akin to Bittersteel and his winged stallion to denote his Targaryen blood. I'm certainly not looking for secret Targs but the sigil would fit a house of Targaryen blood, not much I would imagine, and one of the Lords of Storm's End. Any thoughts?
