  1. Gawds. I can see the attraction goes deep with this one, but he is one confused dude. Ask yourself, between now and dead, do I want to spend life waiting on him to figure it out? Doesn't sound like you can get his attention with sex, for sure. What type of person does he really want? and Do you want to cram yourself into a mold to fit? That's one option. Do you want him so much that you're willing to change into his kind of woman? Do you know what kind of woman is his ideal? Feel free to ignore if you wish. ETA: I can see the convo has moved on. I'm referring to The Doctor.
  2. I think I saw a total solar eclipse when I was a little kid. I remember mostly the warnings about how to view it without burning out your retinas. It's something you'll remember forever.
  3. Since my sister-in-law is deep into academia, I ran this video by her. This is part of her response: "I think that woman needs to re-adjust her thinking about what doing research is all about. She seems to think you should pursue a big “ta-dah” question or issue. I learned very early on that science is in large part done incrementally – you ask smaller questions upon smaller questions to build a bigger knowledge base. It’s all about what you can prove to be true and whether others can replicate and verify your findings. It’s a misperception to think people with PhDs are smart in many areas – all we know is our little corner of the world. Coming back to her point about how articles are published, it is the norm in science that articles are co-authored and that the principal investigator of the project gets to put his/her name on the paper because the paper is describing something his/her project. Yes, grad students often take the lead on writing the paper, but we ALWAYS gave that person “first authorship” in the list of authors on the paper. But the principal investigator ALWAYS reads and comments on the paper as it is being prepared to be sure it is accurate. So I didn’t agree with her comment about the lead researcher not acknowledging the real authors. Guess research in Germany is much more brutal…" What I know about the academic world could fit on the head of a pin, and my impressions of it are formed by my sis's experience.
  4. My most vivid dreams are often those of flying. But I have to flap my arms at first to escape gravity's pull, (I know) and then when I clear the treetops it's clear sailing. I remember having to be very careful of power lines. It is an absolutely wonderful feeling. The other really cool dream is the one where I'm on cross-country skis and each step glides about 3-4 yards. But no snow in sight. But has anyone else experienced "exploding head syndrome"? It's funny, I know, but it's an actual thing apparently. It happens in that time when you're just falling asleep, and then "BANG!" I've had it once in a while for as long as I can remember. It's harmless, but when it first happens, it's quite disconcerting! You look around to see what happened and did anyone else hear it.
  5. Just a grilled chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-a. My husband's on a Whole30 diet and I'm floundering, trying to come up with meals to make for us.
  6. I don't know who any of those action figures are, but they are amazingly detailed. And EVERYONE should have a brother as great as you!
  7. Just made (part of the way) two pies for Easter - an apple pie and a chocolate cream pie. Everything from scratch, of course. I'll bake them Easter morning so they're fresh. Going to have a honey baked ham and homemade scalloped potatoes. Veggies are up for grabs. Not sure yet. Maybe I'll farm that out to the attendees.
  8. Going into a public restroom that has a motion detector that activates the lights , then staying a bit too long on the toilet and having the lights go out, leaving you to finish your business in complete black. Apparently, the motion detector only detects you coming in, not going out. At least that's what happened to . . . a friend of mine.
  9. womanizer noun /ˈwʊmənaɪzə(r)/ /ˈwʊmənaɪzər/ (British English also womaniser) (disapproving) a man who has sexual relationships with many different womenSYNONYM philanderer I don't mean to shout at you, but I can't turn the formatting off. It was copied and pasted from the Oxford Dictionary.
  10. On the topic of whether Trump is a womanizer, duh, yeah! However, E. Jean Carroll "author", is clearly motivated by politics - (ETA: and money!) . She saw an opportunity for an easy buck (I'm sure even SHE never dreamed of how much a complicit judge would encourage the jury to award) and took it at a very opportune time. It also didn't hurt that the trial was conducted in an area that has no love for Trump. A similar case in any other venue would never even approach the amount of this award. As for his ex-wife, et al., think about it - what kind of woman would be attracted to, let alone marry Trump? Does the term "gold digger" ring any bells? You wouldn't catch me within 25 yards of him.
  11. So ISIS committed a terrorist act on Russia, but Putin is claiming "it's really Ukraine!" Apparently the USA shared info with Russia that an attack was imminent, but it was ignored in favor of Putin's favorite scapegoat.
  12. Chats, you are the flesh and beating heart of this thread. You could never kill it.
  13. The last time I can remember that circumstances demanded a statement from the RF was when Diana died. The "don't complain, don't explain" wouldn't wash then. QE had to finally express some words in recognition of the loss. That always struck me as a bit too little, too late.
  14. You think of Catherine the same way I think of George Clooney - he is also very good-looking, but I am very much NOT attracted to him. Now, that we've gotten that out of the way . . .
  15. Dry? I always imagined soda bread to be dry.
  16. So did this particular steak house happen to be a Black Rock? I went to one of those a couple weeks ago. I felt thoroughly PUT OUT that i had to cook my own dinner. I found it to be neither premium nor porterhouse. I ordered the salmon and I wish I had cooked THAT myself. It was thoroughly overdone.
  17. I'd be very angry indeed if William was sleeping around on Catherine. He's a pencil-headed geek. She's worth 10 of him. If it isn't already obvious, I have a major girl-crush on her.
  18. As for bidets, they make me feel a bit icky. But I would like a toilet seat heater. I've got a sensitive tushy, and sitting down on an icy cold toilet seat is enough to send me through the roof.
  19. Dental implants can definitely be costly. My husband had one tooth replaced and it cost roughly US$2K or so. He had a bit of a complication as the post they put in first to hold the new tooth didn't heal in properly, requiring antibiotics, then re-implanting the post. Can't imagine what implanting a mouthful of those puppies would be like. Hope you don't smoke, Spocky, since that makes healing a much longer process.
  20. Lord. Does that road get a lot of truck (lorrie?) traffic? Around Detroit, Michigan, the roads are constantly being repaired due to lots of heavy transport going over them. Of course, the weather doesn't help either.
  21. I spent several hours yesterday making an apple pie. Turned out, my shortening had gone off. Never make pie crust from bad shortening.
  22. My personal theory is that Catherine is so sick and tired of William's catting around that she's rightly pissed off and the only way she can get back at him is to "disappear" for a while, letting him and his surrounding lackeys explain her absence - which they've been doing in an extremely inept way.
