  1. The man is the very definition of unrepentant. As many, many others who grew up watching 90s ball have said, where the hell is David Stern. Mark my words, Draymond Green is going to lose his temper on court again and make another non-basketball play within a month. I expect some quote from him after a GS win within two weeks that denounces his suspension, and I'll be resolutely shocked if he makes it through this season showing any sort of contrition for his acts and how it affected his team.
  2. Meanwhile, that Wander Franco fella is truly an evil dude. And whoof as well to the mother of this 14-15yo child for taking money to allow this.
  3. After another embarrassing 4th quarter meltdown by the Warriors, Jokic hits an absurd 40 foot buzzer beater off the glass, directly in front of Steve Kerr who'd shit-talked to him 5 minutes of game-time ago before a 24-5 or something run by Denver. Just an amazing finish.
  4. I have probably 20 free games on my Epic launcher now. I've never spent a dime with them. I think I put like 3 hours into Civ 5 before I remembered I only really liked Civ 2 and 3 and that was more than two decades ago. (Brilliant games just don't do turn based stuff anymore). Honestly I've gotten some real keepers through their free game weeks, but I'm just enormously stubborn and never play new games in favor of my boring grindy old-reliables. It's certainly an interesting business strategy to try to pull Steam guys like me away with solid games for free, hoping you'll buy missing expansions etc, and generally log on to Epic to buy more stuff.
  5. Sigh. I knew this Iowa team was going to be resoundingly beaten, but I figured they'd at least kick some field goals. Pretty depressing that their FB feed put up a congratulations to the punter for setting a record amount of yards. Good, I guess? Not really?
  6. My only complaint about Reacher season 2 is that they aren't throwing in 80s saxophone or guitar riffs throughout. What a terrific throwback of a show. Tonight's 4th episode has some hilarious detective'in, a dozen or so absolute 80s one-liner style dialogue, and a terribly edited mass fist fight to boot. I'm glad none of the actors seem to be taking the script very seriously.
  7. Holy shit, they paid Anthony Hopkins to read the Star Wars crawl instead of showing it? That's my very first impression of this film. It's also immediately comical that the evil empire thing is clearly the goddamn Empire. I'm 2 minutes 15 seconds in and this is atrocious. I'm going to Spoiler the rest of my MST3K-plus-Jameson responses assuming this continues to be somehow worse than Channing Tatum as a tame man-dog.
  8. I suppose I'm a more than a bit side-eyed here with Deadline's strong opinion. I dismissed Rebel Moon entirely because Fuck Zach Snyder, the trailers were atrocious, and the eventual reviews have agreed. As much as a genre fan as I am, I feel like it's inevitably worse than a Jupiter Ascending-level disaster. That said, I completely dismissed the early teasers for Battle Angel: Alita, but damn if I don't enjoy the crap out of that corny ass film. So, Deadlines, it's late, I'm feeling right and I'm gonna actually give it a try. Only because I already finished the 3 eps of Reacher that Amazon gave us and I'm ready for some pulp.
  9. Also some truly atrocious refereeing in favor of Memphis. Zion and co blew it for sure, but that was a bizarre 8-on-5 in the fourth.
  10. Reacher Season 2 so far has been dumb as hell and ridiculous but continues to be just as fun as the first season.
  11. I never judge anyone of faith, as belief in the unbelievable to me is a foundational part of self consciousness that elevates us above chimpanzees and octopi, etc. So with all respect to Sanderson's faith, that man could use some wildly hot sweaty sex with someone he barely knows.
  12. I think buried in this forum is a conversation about this. I think Otherland could be a stunning adaptation, if animated similarly to the Spideyverse films, or the Arcane series. There are just so many wild environments that a proper live action rendition would be absurdly expensive. The Kitchen Sink world, the chesspiece world, the terrifying experimental amalgamation Kansas world stuff, Mr Sellars organic hacking stuff - it's just not feasible for live action. In my perfect world it would be animated like Arcane and last, like, 50+ total hours of footage all told between 6 or so "seasons". The last season would be absolutely fucking bonkers, too. Again I think it's one of the most unfilmable series ever. I'm surprised and nervous about the news.
  13. Wow, that's interesting. I have said before it'd be completely impossible to adapt for live action. So many different worlds, the budget would be colossal. And the payoff, while worth it, would take like 8 seasons of slog. I love that series but man that sounds like a vast undertaking.
  14. Is the deal assuming an interest then? Otherwise he's losing tens of millions right? So like they'll be paying him 100 million alone from 2034 to 2043 I expect. Wild days.
  15. Well, even if he can't pitch several of the years, he's going to generate colossal amounts of revenue for the Dodgers. It sounds like they're in the running for Yamamoto. Might be a billion dollars of contracts going to those two from one team - and there'd be a blue baseball cap on half the heads in Toyko for a few years.
  16. I hit 100 tonight and got a couple more glyphs to 15. I'm playing probably the most OP class in the game - I didn't actually realize that went I went barb! - and it's pretty silly. I two shot Duriel just as I went to bed. Zero interest in AoZ. I don't think I have the energy to grind Duriel runs til I get a Shako or Grandfather. All in all I'm probably done with the season with no regrets. I hope eventually the game has enough content, item chase, and effing storage space to encourage class rerolls. I'm an alt-oholic in ARGs, seeding new characters is a major part of my fun and this game completely eliminates that with its drop tables and zone scaling.
  17. Heh the barb I rolled for S2 is named OneWeekOfFun. He's made it longer than that, though I didn't hit 100. I got pulled through a bunch of Duriel runs from a friendly Twitch community, got some great gear, and now hilariously one-shot Varshan etc - though not Lilith. Game definitely is in a far better place than release, although I still think the itemization system needs a colossal rework. Gameplay is fun, but they need more carrots on sticks for long-term grinders like me. Hopefully they keep piling on endgame systems - the new rift dungeon is a good start I guess but not my personal cup of tea. Glad I re-installed while I wait for new POE season (yummm).
  18. I agree with Arakasi. The "Power 5" is more like a Power 4.5. The four teams selected all won their conferences and are all clearly superior teams to FSU. Georgia and OSU are better teams this year as well. FSU has had a terrific season, and deserves its ranking over every other program below them - but there's only four spots and the four selected make the most sense (And, of course, the most ESPN/Vegas money).
  19. I've been rewatching Spartacus: Blood and Sand after some chatter here about it inspired me. Man I love this show. It's just so damn stupid and outrageously horny. I find myself laughing and clapping multiple times an episode. Mind you I'm only doing this at 1am and on after a long bar shift and some strong Indica; I'm not sure I'd ever watch this show stone sober. Also reminds me how little interest I have in the Ashur spinoff thing; the actor does a fine job of making me hate every scene that character infests.
  20. Nebraska badly misses a FG attempt to keep the score 10-10. That 24.5 o/u is hilarious and sadly accurate.
  21. I suppose I ducked out of the more hard-core comic fandom of my fellow childhood nerds when I jumped ship to baseball cards circa ~89, @mormant! Hah.
  22. I didn't hate Eternals (rewatched it a few weeks ago) but I agree that I wish it were not required to be connected to a greater continuity. Not just the huge marble hand reaching out of the ocean, but the entire mythos that we're a farm planet for big robots, and the very tired trope that every successful civilization was merely the result of attractive (mostly white) Super People guiding us. Just silly throughout and pretty much every major MCU plot can be answered with "ya Well what about the Eternals?". Then again Loki and the Multiverse and all have also jumped the shark with any logic as well. Soon enough they'll figure out a weak way to explain XMen and mutants without mentioning Eternals, Blips, Multiverses, Aliens, Nordic gods, Wakanda, and whatever other absurdities that make the original Iron Man movie totally ridiculous all things considered. All this was inevitable of course; no kid collecting comics in the 80s used the word "continuity" and the MCU in general will increasingly not be able to hold all this crap together.
  23. And with that dominating... (checks box score) 10-7 win, the Iowa Hawkeyes are atop the Big 10 West. I mean I loved living there and am wearing a dirty old Hawkeye hoodie right now, but come-the-fuck-on. Our 81 points scored through 6 games would be tied for last in the Big10 East. Point differential is -5. Yet somehow 4 and 2. Surely this is the worst division leader in NCAAF ever.
  24. It'd be pretty great if Iowa/Northwestern were still 0-0 through four quarters.
