  1. Hulu is less expensive than Disney.
  2. The reading I took away from that is that her aversion to the man whom her father married her to for political/power reasons is so great that she will not go into death-eternity in his company. If / when she dies it will be for HER honor, not to fulfill her detested husband's pathetically transparent plot to have her dead, even if he dies himself, to ensure she never lives at the side of anyone else. If / when she dies at her own hand, it will be because she is no longer obligated by her honor and fidelity to Toranaga, because either he has released her from that or he's dead himself. If the latter, she shall surely die too, as will all his followers, but that is honorable. It is something she herself believes in. Her husband ... he makes her very skin crawl. So, not a change, just that the writers put the emphasis in her response for the viewer on her refusal to die with Buntaro rather than on her loyalty to her lord Toranaga. Also, this way, the viewer sees an aspect of how a woman in this culture wages that "to be a woman is to be war". The words she so carefully chose and spoke as her refusal just killed her detested husband, and she knew it would.
  3. Maybe if the Likuders etc. halted the theft of Palestinian lands, repression of their civil and legal rights, etc. Palestinians wouldn't have to die.
  4. You all don't understand my objections -- it's not the decriminalization of cannabis I object to. I am deeply objecting to the manner in which it is played out, degradation to both the sanitary and aesthetic environment by the unregulated, non-enforced mess that the politicians created because THEY DID NOT THINK THROUGH, that mostly what we are getting are these 'dispensaries', which are way over-priced, way under-quality, and even sell stuff that is dangerous, the hypocrisy that decriminalizing the selling in licensed dispensaries would lead to an oppressed and abused population -- who were SUPPOSED TO GET THE LICENSES, meaning those imprisoned for possession of say, a loose joint, whatever -- getting economically ahead when instead of working they were in prison. And then the state tax revenue, which isn't happening either. Instead we've got -- NO EXAGGERATION -- 3, 4, more 'dispensaries' on a single block, which don't follow the city rules of keeping their storefronts' sidewalks unblocked and clean, lots of loitering with boom boxes playing, and driving out other, important businesses due to all this environmental mess making the whole street unattractive for business. Nor does it appear there's eve walk-in business going on. So what the eff is going on? Other cities have rolled back their decriminalization of certain substances too, because of the reasons above. Their rosy vision of what it would be, replaced by something closer to the corners, failed. Around here we have noticed that though they are trying to keep it on the down-lo -- this crazy saturation of dispensaries is starting to make beef among them. O boy. Just what we need.
  5. I was wondering if they'd ever get around to that I dunno. Others in many venues write of how intensely they feel these scenes and circumstances. Somehow, I fail to be moved. The book, at least upon first reading, did affect me a lot. But this television series doesn't have me invested in anyone or in the events. Is that because I already know how it all turns out?
  6. There are strings of words there, but they contain no meaning.
  7. Somehow though, here where it has been decriminalized and the selling of cannabis in stores, it hasn't worked that way at all. It's created another criminal mess that the cops aren't -- at this time -- doing a thing about, which is almost all the stores are unlicensed and illegal -- and not paying taxes. People are hanging around them, doing other things that may or may not be illegal, but some of them are really unpleasant for a neighborhood and community. They are more like public nuisances than actual shops providing services and goods. And many people continue buying the illegal stuff anyway, because it is better and costs less. Nothing about legalizing the selling of cannabis turned out as it was said it would, including who got the licenses to sell. It's not popular among certain groups of politicians to hear, say or admit it, but it is the case. We are living it daily. Albany is rather flummoxed. They've tried to correct course a few times and it made no change at all. Also the stink and the reek, along with the rest of the garbage that gathers around those stores -- ugh.
  8. For me and the women I know, women's right and access to reproductive choice and health care on a ballot way overtrumps legalization of cannabis sales -- particularly when one sees what a disaster it has turned into here in NYC. One is speaking truth when saying that the former is literally a matter of life and death, while the second one is ... not.

  10. his is what the AZ 150+ year old dead law revivified means -- and these are the official Republican policies and positions: Killing women with failed pregnancies Arresting doctors practicing well-established medical care Arresting anyone 'aiding and abetting' doctors practicing well-established medical care Denying medical care to pregnant women in distress Ending IVF Bestowing personhood on inchoate cellular masses Forced birth of the dead, soon to be dead and dying and with any luck the woman will die too Rejecting well-established science and medical care that women in failed pregnancies risk death without medical intervention Ending any birth control with respect to said inchoate cellular mass aka ending all birth control Pretending that "bans" having nothing to do with banning maternal medical care
  11. Enjoying Judge Dee’s Mystery (Original title: Da tang di gong an) (2024) season 1 – NF. Elane Zhong, the actress who embodies Empress Wu Zetian, is breathtakingly beautiful. It’s worth watching just to see her. It's a well-funded, handsome production, bringing more joy to the eyes.
  12. I didn't wear a jacket, or coat or sweater outside today, for the first time since October! Low 70's, clear sky. People eating gallons of ice cream whereever one looked! Many young ladies in company with each other, sitting on the ice cream emporium patios, huddled together, watching, cheering on teams in the current women's NCAA basketball series. Such a cheerful atmosphere!
  13. Well then, you should know this is entirely a man made problem. Unless, of course, as the boomers used to say, you're part of the problem not the solution? You know, like the trad wives on insta making a living by lecturing other women to be subservient, yaddayaddayadda?
  14. Yes. Please, one of the men as a whole, make the point a woman made that this problem entirely man made. . Lecture women on what THEY must do to fix a problem and tell them they shouldn't feel hostile about it.
  15. As stated w/o doubt above -- he is a liar. Arizona Supreme Court upholds 160-year-old abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest "I am devastated by this decision, and I know many Arizonans are as well," said Gov. Katie Hobbs https://www.salon.com/2024/04/09/arizona-upholds-160-year-old-abortion-ban-with-no-exceptions-for-rape-or-incest/?
  16. Men as a whole, demanding men as a whole behave as decent whole human beings, instead of predatory, whiney, mean, abusive babies who insist women, all women, must all cater to their every little feefee and whim, is a good place to begin.
  17. I'm finally going to begin Ponniyin Selvan Book 1 Fresh Floods, #01 in series by Kalki R Krishnamurthy. This is a new translation into English, likely sparked by the 2022 film's popularity here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponniyin_Selvan I have it in audio format -- a great incentive to workout, as that's when I listen to books in audio format.

  19. It didn't get dark here, also clouds came and went, but around the most obscured minutes, the light turned -- odd. It was fun though, to see so many people of every sort focused on the same thing for the same reasons, enjoying it, and being in good humor. It takes a major sidereal event to bring us together, I guess.
  20. People standing around, sitting around, trying to figure out how to wear their eclipse glasses that are being sold all over the place. Nothing is going to start here for quite a while yet. Also, clouds are around . . . . We supposedly get 85-90% here.
  21. Ya, even this stuff is prevalant in numbers this event above is not (though with AI EVERYBODY no matter whom can and will be victimized). These actions have been given, so far, what may be called fairly, a muted response in our local media. Most likely because 1) media attention will, as we know, spark ever more men to do this; 2) attempts to honestly measure just how prevalant this has gotten. Men punching random women in NYC: A desperate last gasp of the male rage fueling MAGA Random NYC attacks are an extreme manifestation of men feeling entitled to women's time and attention https://www.salon.com/2024/04/08/men-punching-random-women-in-nyc-a-desperate-last-gasp-of-the-male-rage-fueling-maga/
