UK Politics: Not even a Penny for a new Prime Minister
DMC replied to A Horse Named Stranger's topic in General Chatter
I literally told you three times why I asked the question - as if it wasn’t obvious from my initial post. I don’t know if this is about our previous interactions or your general disposition on this topic, but I’d advise a different tack with others if you’re trying to have a productive discussion. And yeah, I did try to google but initially got results that weren’t informative. It’s kind of a weird search parameter I’m not used to making. Figured I’d just get a quicker answer here. Little did I know… Thanks. Hope providing that information was not preceded by a labyrinthine calculus in your head. -

So..you either don’t know or are unwilling to tell me for some weird ass reason. Hohkay, yeah, let’s move on. -

Perhaps instead of making broad assumptions take me at my word that I just want to understand the scale of the increase - as I’ve stated repeatedly? Because I honestly have no idea, and if you do, it’d be basic common courtesy to, ya know, just tell me. -

No, that’s not all you need to do. Or at least it’s not all I need to do. Funny thing is, I’m inclined to agree with you about at least some of the reasons for such an increase. But your apparent hostility to me asking a basic question on the figures you’re using doesn’t endear one’s self. -

To have a full understanding of the increase. For instance, let’s say the denominator is a million - and again I have no idea and am just trying to understand the context. If that was the case, 250 to 5000 is a change from .025 percent to .5 percent. People are going to interpret that a lot differently than if it’s out of 100 thousand, wherein the difference would be .25 percent to five percent. And that’s not even accounting for possible differences/increases of the overall population over time. -

The relative percentages should of course be relevant. -

I’m literally just going off the quote you provided and is used in the article you linked. And it’s a very simple question of scale. Five thousand out of ten thousand is of course incredibly different than five thousand out of a million. I’m honestly just trying to understand the data. -

I’m curious, what is the overall population? As in, how many children/adolescents does NHS regularly see each year - or in other words, 250 or 5,000 out of how many? I checked the link to try to find out myself but on a quick glance I couldn’t find anything. -

Literally LOL’ed at Drudge’s headline right now: Cancer Murders OJ. -
Also, I know it’s pedantic, but we really should distinguish between legalization and decriminalization. Marijuana has been partially decriminalized throughout New York State since I grew up there. Indeed, since 1977. And in NYC it was further decriminalized in 2014 - notably to little long term effect on arrests.
-
You really need to stop with this horseshit. Yes, I read you in two separate posts compare the hellscape that legalization has wrought on your neighborhood with the pristine pleasantville you enjoyed back in the day - and directly credited the latter environs to the efforts of the mob. I suppose “pining” was a rhetorical flourish on my part, but it’s a perfectly fair depiction of what you wrote.
-
Yeah this is the point. If alcohol is legal - and it should be considering the monumental failure when it wasn’t - then so should weed. Should it be regulated like alcohol? Absolutely. Which, you know, most legalization measures at least try to implement. None of this is a compelling argument against legalization. What I will agree with is the THC content seems to be getting out of hand in certain cases. If you wanna regulate that I’m all for it.

I think a better way to put it is we can never 100% know what anyone is capable of. That’s importantly different than saying everyone is capable of such acts.
-
Never disagreed with what’s going on in NYC. My point is the botched rollout there/in Albany is a silly reason to be against legalization as a whole in the face of the myriad other success stories. Not to mention the effort obviously keeps tons of people out of prison that should not have their lives ruined.

Yes the initiative is essentially the same as Florida’s - basically codifying Roe as a constitutional amendment - and already has more than enough signatures. Notably, Nevada also has an analogous initiative effort. Difference between Florida and the latter two, though, is Florida’s already survived court challenges and thus WILL be on the ballot. State courts could at least theoretically block the other two (albeit that’s very unlikely in Nevada).

When I read the recap of the main event last night it sounded ridiculous with all the run-ins. But I did watch the last 30 minutes this morning, and gotta say it was a lot of fun and generally worked. Agree with BFC that Austin would have been a better choice to take out “final boss” Rock, but Taker is pretty much the only other guy with the cachet to have in that role. And yeah, he was probably cheaper. But still, woulda been awesome to hear the glass break one more time and that was the perfect opportunity. Also agree Cena did not look good. Really awkward haircut.
