  1. I do. I just think it's more likely Johnson will end up having to split the Ukraine and Israel aid into two bills, as he's already been floating. I also think he might try to include some type of concessions to the GOP conference for the Ukraine aid - namely, earmarking the aid as an interest-free loan. Indeed, that compromise might be able to generate enough GOP votes to continue to link the Ukraine and Israel funding in one bill.
  2. Again, the point here is they have to get 2/3s of the entire House. And considering you can only rely on maybe 90 GOP votes, I don't see that happening right now with Israel funding attached. At least not the way it was in the Senate supplemental.
  3. Much of the CPC had reservations six weeks ago when the Senate passed their supplemental. I'd have to imagine that's only hardened since, especially considering the American public now decidedly disapproves of Israel's actions. And, of course, Johnson is going to need most Democrats, because most GOP members are going to oppose any bill including Ukraine funding.
  4. Yeah there's always been more public scrutiny/concern when it comes to airplane security as opposed to MNCs in virtually all other industries. It's not necessarily "fair," or even really ultimately makes sense considering potential for relative harm, but I think that public sentiment is rather intuitive.
  5. A number of Dem MCs have already gone on record stating they will back him in exchange for putting Ukraine aid on the floor. Quite possibly already enough to account for Greene's suicide squad. Actually, the tricky thing at this point is deciding whether to combine Ukraine and Israel aid as it is in the already-passed Senate supplemental, or just put both up individually. To bypass the Rules Committee, Johnson needs 2/3s support. He'd definitely get that for a Ukraine-only bill, but enough Democrats would probably balk at a bill that included funding for Israel.
  6. Especially back then. The percentages don't look quite as impressive today, but compared to league average at the time...
  7. My uncle is selling his dairy, one of the largest in Texas. There's a number of reasons - namely it's been losing money the past couple years - but he did emphasize the following to me when I talked to him about it. Now that it's public, feel comfortable sharing -- and it is relevant to US politics. Bird flu is spreading to cows:
  8. Yeah that makes sense. He also gets well deserved credit for being the first to open the doors for European players in the NBA.
  9. Yeah I remember Petrovic, and I remember his death quite well. It was kinda one of the first major tragedies I do remember. The difference there is he died in the middle of his prime. Indeed, he was arguably still improving as a player.
  10. This is certainly an increasing trend, but it doesn't change the durable correlation between high religiosity - literally measured by how often a respondent goes to church - and conservative ideology. This goes for other religions too, btw - Jewish and Muslim respondents follow the same pattern. Now, is some of that due to social desirability effect, and in particular with self-identified evangelicals having an increased tendency to report they go to church more than they do? Sure, but that's always been the case.
  11. Nice Emma Thomas is being honored too.
  12. Probably. I know I didn't give a shit though. One thing I'll say about ARod (I'm assuming the other one you mentioned Jeter playing with who's not gonna get in is Clemens? That's..a bit different as a pitcher). While he was obviously a much better player, there is the whole steroid/suspended for a year/etc. thing. So, one thing I don't mind Yankee fans saying is even though ARod is clearly the superior player, Jeter was the better Yankee. As for Jeter's personality, him being the golden boy always annoyed me. And yes, a huge part of that was intentionally being as boring as possible. But, there certainly was some value to that, especially vis-a-vis the New York media. Whereas Kobe often came off as an asshole and even kinda embraced that. So, at least in terms of public persona/image, I can definitely appreciate Jeter's tack much more.
  13. Hi! Good to hear from you! The interesting thing about White Protestants in the 2020 exits is that while they voted for Trump 72 to 27 and accounted for 31% of the electorate, within that population, White Evangelicals voted 76 to 24 for Trump and accounted for 28% of the electorate. So...it would appear that very few White Protestants do not identify as evangelical or born-again. Which is fairly surprising. I suppose many "lapsed" white protestants on the exit poll simply chose no religious affiliation.
  14. To be fair, Catholics actually slightly favored Biden in 2020 (52-47). Even 44% of white Catholics voted for Biden. The religious right isn't really a "Christian" problem, it's primarily a white evangelical problem.
  15. Fairly good comparison. But to be fair to Yankee fans - and trust me, many of them annoy me too - I've never really encountered any that wouldn't admit Jeter is clearly the inferior player compared to Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, and DiMaggio.
  16. Hey! A whole 24% of white evangelicals voted for Biden in 2020!
  17. Yeah this is probably true - his death caused a considerable inflation. But I still don't see him on the top 5 of any lists doing a quick google. I can't speak to current players, but I suppose that does make sense based on when they grew up. Kind of a combination of recency bias with the tragedy.
  18. Fair enough. They don't count though.
  19. Who in gods name has Kobe top 5?
  20. Since they were playing the Magic I was watching that in real time. It didn't even make sense. He was arguing a foul that happened about four plays earlier and just wouldn't stop being a dick. Gotta say, Steph is not much of a help alleviating an obvious problem. He was standing right there as if ready try to break it up..but he wasn't actually doing anything. Just standing there. At this point when Draymond goes off he needs to be much more assertive instead of just shaking his head after the fact. Especially cuz he's probably the only one who can.

    Board Issues 4

Everything's working much better on my end now, actually considerably faster than usual. Thanks Ran, much appreciated!
  22. Heh, quite a coincidence. This was just posted on Axios - Americans continue to lose their religion as GOP pushes it:
  23. Also, another reason I'm excited about the season starting - the Yankees spring training complex is literally hundreds of feet from where I work. And our parking lot is overload for both them and Raymond James (where the Bucs play) across the street. The faculty lot is in the back, and during spring training/over the last month, oftentimes the most convenient entrance is literally gated off because of the fucking Yanks spring training games. So..I'm very glad that's over. Entitled-ass Yanks....
  24. Went to a sports bar to watch the Yanks-Astros opener. Almost left after the second inning with the Yanks down 4-0, but they came back to win 5-4. Kinda funny game too. I expected Cortes to suck and was just there to watch the lineup - and certain guys in the lineup - and they did not disappoint. Soto did Soto things at bat, and - perhaps most encouragingly - Volpe reached base four times. But the only home runs were one each from each team's #9 hitters. There were only two other extra base hits for that matter - a Judge double for the Yanks and Pena double for the Astros. Most amusingly, Soto saved the game on defense throwing out the potential tying run in the bottom of the ninth. I say amusingly because all I've read the last five months is how his defense is a liability.
