Fairly good comparison. But to be fair to Yankee fans - and trust me, many of them annoy me too - I've never really encountered any that wouldn't admit Jeter is clearly the inferior player compared to Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, and DiMaggio.
-
Yeah this is probably true - his death caused a considerable inflation. But I still don't see him on the top 5 of any lists doing a quick google. I can't speak to current players, but I suppose that does make sense based on when they grew up. Kind of a combination of recency bias with the tragedy.

Fair enough. They don't count though.

Who in gods name has Kobe top 5?

Since they were playing the Magic I was watching that in real time. It didn't even make sense. He was arguing a foul that happened about four plays earlier and just wouldn't stop being a dick. Gotta say, Steph is not much of a help alleviating an obvious problem. He was standing right there as if ready try to break it up..but he wasn't actually doing anything. Just standing there. At this point when Draymond goes off he needs to be much more assertive instead of just shaking his head after the fact. Especially cuz he's probably the only one who can.

Everything's working much better on my end now, actually considerably faster than usual. Thanks Ran, much appreciated!

Also, another reason I'm excited about the season starting - the Yankees spring training complex is literally hundreds of feet from where I work. And our parking lot is overload for both them and Raymond James (where the Bucs play) across the street. The faculty lot is in the back, and during spring training/over the last month, oftentimes the most convenient entrance is literally gated off because of the fucking Yanks spring training games. So..I'm very glad that's over. Entitled-ass Yanks....

Went to a sports bar to watch the Yanks-Astros opener. Almost left after the second inning with the Yanks down 4-0, but they came back to win 5-4. Kinda funny game too. I expected Cortes to suck and was just there to watch the lineup - and certain guys in the lineup - and they did not disappoint. Soto did Soto things at bat, and - perhaps most encouragingly - Volpe reached base four times. But the only home runs were one each from each team's #9 hitters. There were only two other extra base hits for that matter - a Judge double for the Yanks and Pena double for the Astros. Most amusingly, Soto saved the game on defense throwing out the potential tying run in the bottom of the ninth. I say amusingly because all I've read the last five months is how his defense is a liability.

I imagine this is difficult enough for Ran to fix without you talking like Yoda.

To be clear, I don't either. But I strongly suspect the percentage* would be much higher - perhaps up to half - if there wasn't said stigma attached to the term. And btw, about the same amount (i.e. very low) percentage of Americans identify as agnostic. Edit: *I mean the percentage within that 22 percent that reports no religious affiliation. Thought that was clear but just in case cuz, ya know, the internet.
-
Yeah I think it's important for those that hold atheistic beliefs proudly identify as such. Especially in the US - and to bring this back to US politics - only 4% of Americans identify as atheist, a much smaller percentage than most other western democracies. This is despite the fact that 22 percent of the electorate reported no religious affiliation in the 2020 exit polls. Plainly, there's some disconnect there. And as @polishgenius alluded to, the Richard Dawkins and Bill Maher's of the world don't help. It still fascinates me that more Americans report they are willing to vote for a Muslim than an atheist. I don't identify as atheist because that's simply not what I believe - or at least it indicates a surety of belief that I don't share. But if I did, I definitely would not be ashamed in order to try to shift this very apparent stigma.

I mean, if you're referring to Dent he does that to save a kid. I think that's a reasonable exception. But sure, he lets Ra's die. -

Yeah I highly recommend his book Thinking, Fast and Slow (2012), its very insightful and accessible - something that's rare for academics. I still use him and Tversky's example of framing in class when I go over media effects. -
Yeah I've known/been friends with Mormons virtually all throughout my life, it's really a weird coincidence. And every single one of them has been incredibly nice, intelligent, yes attractive, and generally awesome people. South Park/Parker nailed that one.

I think we've had this discussion on here before (or at least I have), and while yes you can nitpick in certain instances, Nolan takes great pains in all three movies to demonstrate Batman at least tries not to "break his one rule." That's fundamentally different than Burton's Batman. -

Between the British tabloids and Kate's photoshopping, seems like an unnecessary use of resources on Russia's part. -
Special elections in the aggregate - meaning over the course of entire election cycle - are a solid indicator. In that way this reinforcers Dems' overperformance in that metric, especially considering over the winter the GOP had a slight edge. However, it should also be emphasized that special elections are more of an indicator of the House popular vote, not the presidential vote. What this does further support is the shift in Dems' advantage among likely voters. Meaning if it's a relatively low turnout election, that favors the Dems/Biden - contrary to popular belief. This shift is in large part due to the shift and polarization among educated vs. non-educated voters. The result also, of course, supports the notion abortion/women's rights can continue to be a motivator for Dem turnout come November.

I don't know what you looked up, but everything seems pretty straightforward here. The NFL has that no placing bets on league facilities rule, but none of the other three do. Interestingly, in the NFL all other league personnel OTHER than players - coaches, officials, trainers - are prohibited from all sports betting.

Yeah I got a new iPad in October and couldn’t believe it didn’t have one. I have wireless headphones, but frankly I often prefer my ones with a wire, at least in certain situations. Fuck Apple.
