- Book of the Ancestor trilogy by Mark Lawrence - another more wildcard pick, but this is a story about nuns with powers fighting against evils that lurk in the ice that encases the entire planet except the equator.
I've read and enjoyed almost every book you mentioned, so hopefully some of these are up your alley!
I think this is a great suggestion based on the OP.
I'm gonna rec Ann Leckie's Ancillary books. I'll add that all of Leckie's books are good and Provenance is underrated.
Tasha Suri's Books of the Ambha. I haven't begun The Burning KIngdoms just yet but I will soon.
Gareth Hanrahan's Black Iron Legacy.
Dickinson's Baru Cormorant books.
Newman's Vagrant trilogy.

Almost finished with Carrick's The Liar's Knot and it is at the exact same enjoyment level as the previous book in the set. Next I am planning to read Teran's God is a Bullet. Teran is a pseudonym of some unknown person or persons, the book seems to have almost absurdly good reviews...it's like the old SNL gag about the hypnotist playing Broadway at the same time as Cats... and it's about a small devil worship cult which always draws my eye. I saw a trailer for the movie with Coster-Waldau by mistake and now I am all in.
Also, I looked up Coster-Waldau for spelling support and the first thing on the 'people also ask' list was...'Who plays Jaime Lannister in the Flash?' Am I really that far out of the loop?

I finished Frost's Secret History of Twin Peaks and moved on to Carrick's The Liar's Knot, which is the second Rook & Rose book. Each of these were likely sure things and I enjoyed both a bit more than expected.

Leckie and Clarke are instant buys for me. I'm also interested in the Hanrahan book coming out.
I was at the shop last night and it was pre-Covid packed.

This is me quoting Xray quoting Hereward...and I will order the first book after I clean up my dinner dishes.
I am excited about both of these.

It will end with him saying he has become death.
I would like to see beyond that, though.

What does one actually say to a male colleague who asks me to make him a copy of a document?
This colleague is at the same level but seems to think he is my boss.
Hopefully, he won’t ever again ask me to make copies, but if he does, I need to be prepared.
Don't say anything at all. Just hold out your hand and when he gives you the document, before he even turns away, immediately throw it in the garbage and go back to what you were doing.

Everyone in the world dresses better than most North Americans!
Reminds me of an interview with Robert Plant I heard years ago on the radio. Fashion came up and Plant said Americans always dress like they're going camping.

I live under a rock and had no idea the Sapeurs in the Congo existed.

I can't think of a bad Ray Liotta performance. He was even the redeeming aspect of the movie where they are sent to the prison island called Absolom...I forget the title. Liotta is easily an all-time favorite.
RIP.

Chariots of Fire was my favorite song for a while when I was a kid. I was obsessed with it and would play it over and over and over. I remember it was a particularly bad time in my life and I would sit in a chair and listen to Chariots of Fire for hours. I still get chills when I hear it.
RIP Vangelis.

Very sad news.
Condolences to Timmett at this difficult time and I'll add my thanks for your heartfelt words.
I don't post very much and I didn't post very much back then, either, but I do remember Timmett and Lilith of Tarth and the memories are good ones.
RIP

I was reading Teran's God is a Bullet and at about the halfway point I put it down and read Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven instead. That proved to be a really good idea.
