I've given it an 8, but could be argued down to a 7. Genuinely surprised by so many giving it a 6 however. I don't know what people were expecting from the first episode? Historically they've always been about re-introducing characters/storylines etc. and usually very little of substance happens. With that in mind I would say that behind the very first episode of the show, this is the best opening episode to any season. We had VERY important moments occur (Jon riding a dragon for the first time + the reveal of his parentage), a nice 5 minute horror film set at The Last Hearth, touching albeit brief character reunions, an amazing scene with Sam and the advancement of the Greyjoy plot. Also, as per usual, the visual effects were great. The only criticisms I have is that whilst it was advanced, I would say that Yara being rescued this quickly makes the whole arc kind of pointless. But hey, we only have 5 episodes left after this, so as those criticised the episode for not doing enough, we have to get moving. So I don't mind the speed. That and I felt that the Jon/Drogon stuff was stupid. But hey, it was like 20 seconds.

Thank you very much for that. After roughly 3 years this is the first piece of real feedback that I've been given so I'm grateful. The infodump in the prologue was something that I was already aware of and was planning to go back and fix, but it's good to know that it's definitely a problem that needs addressing. Everything else was also really useful as for the majority they were things that had escaped my attention, so thank you.

I only feel that I want to contribute one thing regarding this episode... I LOVED the scene between Gendry and Arya. One of my favourite scenes of the entire show so far.

I've been here for a good long while now, but never noyiced this before. Better late than never eh? My name's Mitch, I like all things Jurassic Park, LOTR and Pro Wrestling related. In terms of ASoIaF I was completely new to it all when the show came out. After season 1 finished I immediately read the books, completing them before Season 2 (Good for me). Big fan of Jon Snow, Davos and all things Stannis the Mannis. However, my favourite house is by far the Lannisters.
