There are worse areas than that to attempt to wall off. Look at the St. Lawrence river that forms the boundary from Kingston to Cornwall, Ontario. Those are the Thousand Islands with some on the American side and some on the Canadian side, and then there is the First Nations reserve at Cornwall that sits in Ontario, Quebec and New York State. They don't recognize any government's authority over their land.

Anybody else watching Ferry on Netflix?

This is the sort of thing you see all the time when people have their situation relaxed. 'Don't use that new freedom! It isn't good for you!'

That smells so good- A Baking Thread
maarsen replied to Larry of the Lawn's topic in General Chatter
I like to make pies. Pumpkin pie is one of my faves. And a good use of the Halloween pumpkin. I find pies harder to do and so more interesting. The last few years, the kids wanted a change for Thanksgiving and Xmas so I did cheesecakes. -
You do know that Israel has this type of system leading to their inability to deal with issues of national importance without including the loony bin contigent in the decision making?

According to the article the root cause of the conflict was the desire to purge the Greek spoken language of Ottoman influences. Using classical Greek from before their conquest bt the Ottomans would accomplish this but publishing a book in the modern spoken Greek was a step back.

That smells so good- A Baking Thread

I have been baking since I was a kid. My mom taught me to do cakes, pies, bread, and cookies. I even spent time as the maintenance manager in a commercial bakery. -
When I first heard the story Grey Owl did pop into my mind. When children are abused, they do tend to create an alternate personality to help them cope with the pain and abuse. Did Buffy do this? I don't really know.

In the early 60s Indigenous identity was not a stairway to success so I doubt that was her motive. I think it had more to do with the sexual abuse she alluded to while a child and a made up identity was an attempt to deal with that.

US Politics: Dominoes falling, GOP failing, what a time to be alive!

Well I guess it had to happen that someone brings up his Canadianness. Oh, the shame, the shame of it all. -
So did I a few years ago, only to find that the last few bits of the book is lost to time. If anything it does show we really have learned nothing in the ensuing millenia.

Contact cement. This is what the manufacturer probably used originally. -

My mom made everything herself, including lard. She grew up in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation and told me stories of making soap and growing tobacco for black market cigarettes. -

Actual lard rather than shortening is the trick. Shortening is a pain in the ass for pie crusts. -
Dating Thread: Hope Springs Eternal

Sounds like someone struck out on the dating scene. Set some rules for him before you agree to go back. Hoping for the best. -
Will she lose her law license if she gets a conviction?

Well Boston had the great molasses flood. That sounds even more comedic but it wasn't.

A few years back, while in Cuba, we met an American family with in-laws in Cuba that they would regularly visit. The father told us that they were allowed to travel to Cuba but the paperwork involved was a pain so now they just fly to Toronto and take a regular flight to Cuba with all the other Canadian tourists.

The same shit has been pulled since the 1600s when the first stock market was created. I suspect the first trading scam started in the early Neolithic just after pottery and farming first started.

It does. Once you realize the central idea of the town, it becomes so much funnier. Eddie the out of town detective is worth the watch.

Beat me to it. I have been a Philip K. Dick fan since the mid 70s. Yes he was a true original. I just wish he could have seen the huge impact his books have made in these latter years.

Mysteries: More Murders, More Minor Misdemeanors, More Moors, More Pies

I have always enjoyed them. They were a great series. -
We did that experiment in Canada. Quebec did it first with $10/day daycare. So many women went back into the workforce that it did pay for itself. Now the federal government is trying to implement it across all the provinces.

Trump hires bad lawyers because he doesn't pay them and good ones know this. Bad lawyers need the exposure and do hope to eventually make money.

This reminds me of when the police and FBI were infiltrating radical groups in the 60s. Most of those groups only had a reasonable amount of members because of police agents joining to keep them under surveillance and the agents ended up reporting on each other. I expect at least half of those following the idiot are there just to see what stupidity is coming next.
