US Politics: He's so indicted, he just can't abide by it...
maarsen replied to Mindwalker's topic in General Chatter
So any odds on whether Trump takes the stand in any of his legal trials and tribulations? I imagine any lawyer would never want him on the stand but the chance to be on TV in Georgia must seem like an overwhelmingly delightful opportunity for Trump. -

In Trump's case, an excuse to kick a ball around. -
I was listening to CBC a few days ago and this was the discussion. At the time I thought that anybody who needs Meta to gain access to news must be a blithering idiot. Can they not do a search and find a different site that has reliable news? The only people actually worked up by the Meta ban was those websites that aggregate news from other sources and post on Meta sites.

Why use Facebook for news when the CBC has a perfectly good site?

Phil Dick was not popular until after he died. That early stuff he wrote was really stuff he wrote to stay alive. Even in the SF community he was a fringe writer for most of his career.

Does your library have access to Libby? Here in Aurora we do and ebooks can also be downloaded.

US Politics: Hell Yes THEY Were Trying to Overthrow the Government
maarsen replied to Zorral's topic in General Chatter
One of the funniest movies ever! -
I still remember walking out of the theater that afternoon and the absolute stillness of the crowd. It was as if the entire audience was in a state of shell-shocked. No talk of interesting scenes or asking about opinions but dead silence. Personally, I felt as if I was in a war and had just got out. It was that intense.

I watched the original version back then as it was only released in 3 cities worldwide. LA, NYC, and Toronto. I still have the program given out to film goers then.

By my recollection, at least since. Nixon. When he first ran and lost to Kennedy. Other people's recollections may go back to the Civil war -

Hillary's emails. -
Well the auditor general's report on the greenbelt land transfer is out and to the surprise of nobody, it was a political decision to reward certain developers. Doug Ford seems to be as stupid as he looks.

AM radio was dying long before the buffoons found it. FM has many technical advantages and people preferred it. AM then became a wasteland with a very low entry price so it was of interest to those who had a small audience. The only technical advantage it has is a longer range.

The British Empire banned slavery on this day in 1834. All over CBC radio this morning. 50 years after Lord Simcoe banned it in Upper Canada.

That looks like my bike that I bought in the early 80s and still ride.

Well that is debatable. How else does one explain the Tory party? -
Didn't the original X sing "I must not think bad thoughts"? Or is this more a case of a Burning House Of Love.

The Small Stuff That Doesn't Need, or Even Want, a Thread. #6

Not easy for subs to stay submerged for a long length of time. They needed to run diesel engines while at the surface or with a snorkel just below the surface to charge the batteries that powered the sub while underwater and silent. It was easier to find them after the surfaced. -
I never did forget. As soon as I saw this lawsuit I had to laugh. Suing a law firm because they beat your ass in court is a real non starter. At a $1000 per hour I think the law firm being sued is singing 'dollars from heaven' Inflation you know.

Ukraine War: Wagner’s fading thrust
maarsen replied to Ser Scot A Ellison's topic in General Chatter
"Russian imperialism I like because it conterbalances Western imperialism" is a really silly argument. This is like saying a punch to the left side of one's head is fine if counterbalanced by one to the right side of said head. -

I do hope you are feeling better. I would just start with walking at an easy pace, going longer distances as you regain stamina. Stay strong. -
The solar minimums and maximums are not related to the sun's temperature but to sunspots. It is a 22 year cycle and at maximum we get more sunspots which are cool spots on the surface of the sun.
