Joffrey/Dany executed Robb/Hizdahr's father on a whim. Doubt that Hizdahr will go to war over it--openly, anyway--but it does not make Dany look good.

Cogman crushed it. Sakharov crushed it. Alfie Allen crushed it. Liam Cunningham crushed it. Mark Gatiss crushed it. Everyone crushed it. Give Dinklage the Emmy now.

The bones included a goat's head, and if you watch the Drogon scene carefully, you can see that Drogon clearly flies over the child's head and roasts the fleeing goats well ahead of where the child is.

Except this change gives Hizdahr a good reason from day one to want Dany dead--that she had his father executed for no good reason--whereas in the books it was supposed to be at least something of a surprise that Hizdahr had it out for her. ...I wonder if the show writers realized that this change essentially makes Dany the Joffrey to Hizdahr's Robb. Oops.

Loved it. I only know Joel Fry (Hizdahr) from his comedy work (Plebs, e.g.), but I agree, dude knocked it out of the park. The whole Braavos side trip was worth it for Davos brandishing his maimed hand as proof of Stannis' honesty and reliability. Hard to complain about more Salladhor. Actor kills it.

When TV Hizdahr said, "I pray you may never live to see a member of your family treated so cruelly," all I could think of was Viserys being killed by Drogo. I kind of loved the scene with Dany smoothing over the goatherd matter and being all pleased with herself, only to be cut down to size by the confrontation with Hizdahr.

She did seem scared, as if she had been coerced.

Peter Dinklage's Emmy episode for sure. Am I the only one really surprised that Only Cat will be in 4x07 and not 4x10? I guess the episode title should have been a tipoff, but I sort of thought they would save that for the finale.

I'm giggling at the scene with Jaime and Tyrion marching into the throne room, since all I can remember is that jokey BTS bit with NCW and PD dancing up to the front in the same scene. I seem to remember Book Hizdahr being a lot more unctuous from the get-go. This sort of deflates Hizdahr's betrayal, if he had a very good, Inigo Montoya-type reason to hate Dany from the outset.

Tyrion said in 2x08 that Cersei became queen at the age of 19. In 1x05 Cersei stated that "17 years" was "quite a long time" for hate to hold their marriage together. And as of 4x01 Cersei and Jaime are both 40 years old, even though Sansa's only managed to age less than two years between 1x01 (when she gave her age as 13) and 3x08 (when she gave her age as 14). I also remember Dany stating in 3x08 "a year ago I had no dragons," implying that less than a year has passed in her storyline between 1x10 and 3x08. TLDR, the show timeline is all over the place...but then we knew that.

Well, NCW always used his natural hair colour, and the list of actors who dyed their hair for GOT is a short one. I think PD used a blonder wig for the first season, but it looked pretty rough.

It would be pretty hilarious if Victarion and that entire plotline were entirely eliminated with a throwaway line from Daario about getting 93 ships for Dany. Ditto if Quentyn's storyline was reduced to the single line "Some random asshole accidentally freed the dragons."

I think the singer character who accompanied Cat and Tyrion to the Vale is the same character who gets his tongue ripped out in 1x10, and I thought that in the show he was named Marillion. At any rate, unless it's going to be drastically rewritten, the Vale storyline needs some sort of character to serve as Littlefinger's patsy for Lysa's murder. I expect someone to be introduced to fulfill that purpose (hopefully no rape attempt on Sansa required).

One little thing that bothered me in this episode: Sansa licking her fingers when eating the lemon cakes. Even in the Middle Ages, licking one's fingers was considered bad table manners, and someone as exquisitely drilled in etiquette and courtesy as Sansa would never do it, even while feeling relaxed in front of a family member she believed she could trust. No way. ...I thought I'd be more disturbed by the Hound backhanding Arya than I turned out to be. I did love Arya's water dancing, though.

I could have bought her keeping the ring out of habit until Petyr explained her new identity, but after, when she's already supposedly masquerading as Alayne? Makes no sense.

Yup. Book Sansa, when asked about being made to marry Tyrion: "They made me marry him. I never wanted it." TV Sansa, when asked pretty much the same question: "They did. They made us both. Lord Tyrion didn't want to." What is she still doing with that ring? It wouldn't bother me so much were it not for the extended closeups on her hands in the Lysa/Sansa scene. She was even wearing the ring in bed when she was trying to ignore Lysa's screams. Maybe the ring will be gone in the next episode with no explanation and that will be that, but I don't get why Sansa hasn't ditched the ring already, and I really don't get why she wouldn't have ditched it the moment she adopted the Alayne identity.
