PhD research: Doran Martell and you

What do you think of how do Doran’s looks and personality differ or compare to the Doran of the books? Book Doran had gout is fat and has patchy skin. I’m thought he was a bit like Robert the Elder in Braveheart. Robert has leprosy but is very intelligent and strategic. I pictured Doran with less debilitating disease, stuck in one place but a thinker and strategic. How well (or not) does Alexander Siddig embody the character compared to how you imagined Doran while reading about him. He seems clever, he’s good, but the Dorne TV plots were silly and didn’t show his long term plans and thoughts. He seemed to weak and passive. Do you think seeing Siddig acting in any other shows or films has informed your ideas or opinions about his playing of Doran? Please explain where else you’ve seen him etc. I haven’t seen him in any other shows but I knew who he was because fans on this forum thought he would be a good Doran. Can you can imagine any other actor playing the role since you saw Siddig in it? If so, who? If not, why not? Yes, I expected him to be fat. I pictured Edward James Olmos What interviews you have seen? What did you think of Siddig’s personality and attitude towards the show and the character. Did you seek out these interviews or come across links? Where did you find them? On YouTube saw Comic-con introduce new characters. I saw the interviews with Siddig sand he seems really thrilled and happy to be on the show, so I liked him. I have faith in the GoT casting department, they have been very good so far and I think he should be good. Do you think that you are likely to try and find out more about Siddig now that he is in GoT? Yes, I will glance at wiki and IMDB. I do that for all the major cast members and anyone I find interesting.

Jesus, I'm now one of "those" book readers. I'm not liking all the changes in season 5. I'm upset Ser Selmy is dead. We'll see how teh show pans out, but not happy at the moment.

Stannis and Shireen scene was really sweet and awesome. Finally viewers will now know why Stannis is the Mannis. What a guy! Don't like the scene with Cersie and the Sparrow. I wanted them to discuss the crown's debt to the church. The sparrow then tells her, the church doesn't need money but men to protect themselves -and mentions faith militant. So then Cersei grants it and cuts the debt. She thinks she is a great deal broker but has been manipulated. The show version was all Cersei and the Sparrow doesn't come across as sly and devious.

How would you rate episode 401?

Loved the hound. Thenn were scary, reminded me of hellraiser. Were they cannibals in the book? Oberyn was great and he is great for the role.

Great episode but I really wish they showed Grey Wind fighting - I presume it was due to costs: The vast majority of us love animals and this would have been amazing. Reading from asoiaf bio: While the butchery of the Stark forces took place, Frey men would kill Grey Wind, but not before he was released by Raynald Westerling, allegedly killing four Frey wolfhounds and tearing the arm off of a man, even while being shot by crossbows. His head was sewn onto Robb's corpse as a final insult to the Starks. PS. In films they have to not kill pets because the films get a negative reaction, even in Independence day everyone is dying, the dog is safe.
