  1. Thanks again.  I added all but the theory on Nettles.  I think she's Leaf and I'm biased.  :)

    Haha fair enough!
Thanks to you for all the work you put into this :)

    ETA: here's another one!

The histories of Qohor likewise claim that a visiting dragonlord, Aurion, raised forces from the Qohorik colonists and proclaimed himself the first Emperor of Valyria. He flew away on the back of his great dragon, with thirty thousand men following behind afoot, to lay claim to what remained of Valyria and to reestablish the Freehold. But neither Emperor Aurion nor his host were ever seen again.

From the World of Ice and Fire, the Doom of Valyria.

And thanks to LM for pointing these guys out in the Small Questions Thread:

Do we ever learn what became of Tarber and Cutjack after they abandoned Arya, Gendry, Hot Pie and Lommy?

Last heard from in Arya V, a Clash of Kings:

They buried him under a mound of stones, and Cutjack had claimed his sword and hunting horn, while Tarber helped himself to bow and boots and knife. They'd taken it all when they left. At first they thought the two had just gone hunting, that they'd soon return with game and feed them all. But they waited and waited, until finally Gendry made them move on. Maybe Tarber and Cutjack figured they would stand a better chance without a gaggle of orphan boys to herd along. They probably would too, but that didn't stop her hating them for leaving.

  2.

Nettles, a dragonseed and rider of Sheepsteeler fought for her lover, Daemon Targaryen for the Blacks.  She and her dragon were last seen around 130 AC flying over the Bay of Crabs.

Jumped straight from the OP to replying so sorry if this has been mentionned before.

I think you can add that Nettles was likely the Burned Men's fire witch, which is imho as safe an assumption as some other theories that made the list.

Somewhat related: I'd maybe add Alys Rivers, last seen carrying Aemond's bastard right before the Gods' Eye showdown - of course the fate of every single character related to the Dance isn't known, but since we know for a fact she was carrying a dragonseed, she was likely the one telling whoever Gyldayn's source was about the fight, and she claims to be a seer, I think she deserves a spot up there :)

Somewhat related (yes, yes it is!), I would definitely add the fourth daughter of Elys and Alys Arryn, who was, as per Littlefinger's words to Sansa:

on her way to the riverlands to marry some Bracken when Burned Men carried her off.

Completely unrelated, and debatable I guess (he sure wasn't pregnant), is Qarl Correy, one of Laenor Velaryon's favourites.

[Mushroom thinks] Prince Daemon paid Qarl Correy to dispose of Princess Rhaenyra’s husband, arranged for a ship to carry him away, then cut his throat and fed him to the sea. [...] Yet there was no shred of proof, then or now, though the Sea Snake offered a reward of ten thousand golden dragons for any man who could lead him to Ser Qarl Correy or deliver the killer to a father’s vengeance.

From the Rogue Prince. The facts that Mushroom's theory is not discarded, and that Gyldayn does not say whether anybody claimed Corlys' reward pretty much establish that we don't know what became of Correy.

  3. Where are Daemon Targ, Nettles and sheepstealer? Does anyone have any theories on them? Could Nettles be Melisandre and could Daemon be Coldhands? I wanna know what happened to Daemon after the Dance after he flew off with Nettles.

Daemon didn't fly off with Nettles, he had a showdown with Aemond where he killed him and ended up falling in the Gods' Eye with Ceraxes. His body was never found though, so you're right, we can't know he's dead for sure.

As for Nettles, the Worldbook gave us an interesting tidbit about the Burned Men that is very likely about Nettles: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/topic/124067-Nettles-as-the-Burned-Men%27s-fire-witch

  4. Why isnt there a "jon is legitimate" on this list? I have seen countless people advocating it, have they not threads going for it? I dont believe it, but it has more bearing than many of the theories in this thread

It is kind of included in the RLJ threads I guess.

  5. I hope he doesn't become BR 2.0... how messed up would that be to paralyze a kid then make him a tree... A tree who watches over and helps people live THEIR lives while he just sits.... Oh god... that's probably exactly why grrm paralyzed him!!! lol.... I heard of BR 2.0 but haven't looked into it yet so I'll get on that soon.... Also A song for Lya?

    An awesome GRRM short story.

  6. Maybe a stupid question, but why doesn't Melisandre send a shadow assassin to kill Ramsay or Roose Bolton? For all we know, she should know that his life is in danger, not just the chance that he might be defeated(which was the case with Renly).

The King's fires are running low, and Jon doesn't feel like playing sperm donor for the Cause?

  7. I just finished the dance with dragons. I have question, during the siege of mereen by the yunkai there's talk that two iron legions out of New Ghis have arrived, GRRM doesn't elaborate much. Are the iron legions like the unsulled? whats their history?

(I know thats 2-3 questions, but humor me anyways).

Just came upon this and thought of you:

Father on, two legions from New Ghis were facing off shield wall to shield wall whilst serjeants in iron halfhelms with horsehair crests screamed commands in their own incomprehensible dialect. To the naked eye the Ghiscari looked more formidable than the Yunkish slave soldiers, but Tyrion nursed doubts. The legionaries might be armed and organized in the same manner as Unsullied... But the eunuchs knew no other life, whereas the Ghiscari were free citizens who served for three-year terms.

    aDwD 56 (Tyrion XI)

I'm about positive it the same Iron Legions we heard about. So, since they're "just" citizens, I highly doubt they're cut. :P

  8. I'll ask here because I don't know where else. Is there a thread in here where people talk about parallels between Red God and The Great Other magic? Stuff like resurrections and all that...

I've used search but can't find anything

Heresy threads sometimes discuss this, but it's a lot to search through.

  9. Maester Aemon, asks Sam tarly to tell him about the qualities of stannis' so called lightbringer, is it giving out heat, is the scabbard scorched/ burned, Is the sword just giving out light as compared to light and heat.

Melisandre must know that the sword stannis carries is not the real light bringer, so my question is that why doesn't she help stannis find the real lightbringer, also does stannis knows that his sword is not the real lightbringer or he is being fooled by Melisandre.

We know from her POV chapter Mel sincerely believes Stannis is AAR.

Azor Ahai having Lightbringer is "only" a prophecy, so it can be interpreted in many ways. I think Mel believes what matters is that AAR has a Lightbringer, not necessarly the very one the original Azor Ahai bore, if it even exists. Maybe she also thinks one can make prophecies come true. By giving a Lightbringer to Stannis, even if she knows perfectly well it's just a glamor, she ticks one more box on the "Getting AA to get reborn list".

It's really hard to know just how much Stannis believes in/cares about the whole thing, imo. I think he definitely didn't take it seriously before a certain point, but now...

  10. Who are Yogi and Fred here? No clues.

Who is Dumbo? He flies? Daenerys? Aegon?

No fucking clue what he is talking about.

This one could be solved. Anyone have any ideas? Somehow sounds to me like Melisandre, don't know why...

    Quentyn Martell. Must be.

I have no idea either, except I really don't want to think of Mel as a Fred. We only had one chapter of hers anyway, and I doubt any were pushed to Dream since the stabbing is such a nice cliffhanger.

Your comments were hilarious, by the way.

I wish he'd do the same with Winds, that'd make for some fun speculation.

  11. A couple queries: does it not seem entirely possible that the Others just go around the Wall by means of watercraft, or more likely, just by freezing the water that skirts the Wall and walking around? GRRM put the Wall by the sea, so this just seems like a glaringly obvious fault to me.

Also, the sex of Dany's dragons? I wouldn't expect her to know their genders at birth, but she named them after males. Could it be possible, and wouldn't it be likely, that at least one of them is female? I can't say whether or not GRRM intends for the dragons to survive, but 3 males doesn't bode well for the future of dragons; in fact, it seems pretty bleak. That is, unless Dany mistakenly named one..

It has been theorized that Others could indeed make seas (or part of seas) freeze to make landbridges. I believe one of the reasons behind this thinking is that Azor Ahai is likely an eastern figure, yet Mel seems convinced he fought Others - so it seems reasonable to think they got to Essos at some point.

Since they are sentient and have a technology that sometimes surpasses mankind's (basass swords and camouflage armor and whatnot), I for one think they could very well have boats of some sort, too.

That being said, the Wall is magic, and has some sort of ward around it; surely it expends at least a little into the sea?

As for the dragons' sex, it seems dragons change theirs during their lifespan (like some animals on Earth do). Aemon says so to Sam during his "Dany is AA reborn" tirade.
