  1. good thread, covering the history of the military space industry and their cost-plus gorging on the public dollar.
  2. I think he made up that part where but you know what? I'm going to accept that. That's the answer. It happened that way.
  3. It's not exactly alternate history in terms of specific events retold. It's more a flavor of the times (vaguely pre to post French revolution, with a Prussian neighbor that seeks to take advantage, and eventually English style parliamentary politics). Secret identities, spies, con men, resistance militias... It's fun.
  4. I didn't understand how Master Chief was in one moment talking about Copper Team MIA on some far away world (Epislon Eridani?) and then the next moment concluding the Covenant was on Reach. What did I miss?
  5. The movie is a mishmash of the first two books, The Book of Three, and The Black Cauldron. But you would know that by now. There is a book of short stories set in Prydain too, The Foundling and Other Tales, but I wouldn't say it's a must-read. Loved the Prydain Chronicles as a kid and reread multiple times. I would take breaks from Lord of the Rings to reread. I understand there was development on a movie or tv series about 5 years ago but no news on that since. Westmark is excellent. I'd call it a secondary world with alternate history like G G Kay's post-Fionavar novels, except aimed at teens.
  6. Dropping that line No. ok, who is "She"? Neither of them thought to ask that?
  7. I don't know any of these characters, does this claim hold up?
  8. Interesting cast: Voiced by Natasha Lyonne, Maya Rudolph, Kieran Culkin, Keke Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, Bowen Yang and John Waters.
  9. A friend is trying to figure where to put his next documentary out. He's had them on National Geographic channel, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and elsewhere. A teaser and a clip:
  10. also Best Editorial Team - Feature, Best Character Design, Best FX - Feature, Best Production Design - Feature.
  11. It used to be you'd have to wait years for the next robotic lander to launch to the Moon. Seven weeks into 2024 and now the 3rd lander of the year is on it's way. It's going to the south pole On schedule for a February 22 landing. Remarkably, Intuitive Machines has two more lunar landers to launch this year.
  12. FX. Streamed on Hulu. Which is now included on Disney+ i think? idk
  13. Sounds like an adult version of character has been cast, I'm assuming in one of Paul's prescient visions:
  14. https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/1866763/Dune-2-first-reactions-review-Denis-Villeneuve-Timoth-e-Chalamet-Zendaya ok this one sounds pornographic
  15. First reviews coming out now, and every critic sounds orgasmic.
  16. Howard or Tony probably bought the building from them, or whoever they leased it from.
  17. For a superhero team-up movie, apparently there is no actual team-up in Madame Web where they all use spider powers. All the bait and switch shots in the trailer of the various spider-women in costume are from a few minutes of flashforwards. Fun fact: The director S. J. Clarkson also directed the Blood Moon GOT spinoff.
  18. Just in time for climate change to fuck it completely.
  19. That's not really believed any more, new research says the Arrow was just outdated for the job once the USSR switched from bombers to ballistic missiles in the 50s. https://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/what-really-happened-with-the-fabled-avro-arrow-long-secret-information-revealed-1.6567690
  20. The music at the end reminded me of the score of Loki. Not the same composer though.
