  1. Welcome! And congrats on your willpower. It never occurred to me to stop at season 4 of GOT because of book spoilers - and I frankly, don't mind spoilers. If I did have a problem with spoilers I'd be in trouble. So you're here to work on the wiki? Thanks! I really enjoy having it - thank you to all who have labored to make it.
  2. Welcome Noobs! Sorry I have not welcomed some of you sooner (I'm not an officially designated greeter - I just do this for fun.). There's a ton of stuff on Westeros to enjoy and I hope you're zooming around and checking things out. I hang out almost exclusively in games forum, here: https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/ I'm starting a word game called acrophobia that I welcome you to check out if you're so inclined. We also have fantasy football and even a pictionary game from time to time. Enjoy!
  3. Welcome! Always nice to have new friends to chat with. I myself, spend almost all my board time here: http://Westeros games forum
  4. English spelling is crazy. Everyone has trouble with it. German is easier (I took two years of German in college - many, many years ago and remember little).
  5. Welcome Karneol! Your English is better than mine and I'm a "native" speaker, if one can call an American a native speaker of someone else's language, namely, English. Yes, ASOIAF gives the reader a ton to think about and discuss. You've come to the right place for that. I would recommend you some threads to go to, but that isn't what I do here. I spend all my time on site over in forum games. You'll find some speakers of your native language there - as well as Hungarian, Slovenian and who knows what else. In addition to games, there's the long running conversation on The Thread That Never Ends, current theme: favorite cartoon characters. That's why I'm running Bugs Bunny as my av. Hope to see you around!
  6. Welcome! Always good to have more Canadians here be they nationals or ex pats.
  7. Welcome to Westeros! Over analysing is what we do around here, and I have to say, some of us are quite good at it! If you want to get away from analysis and over thinking, you can always stop into forum games for some silliness and fun: https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/
  8. She's not interested, but passed your query along to other friends who might be.
  9. Great! The more games people the better! Absolutely true that one finds new nuggets. What tends to happen on second reading is that a lot of details that were "interesting" but hard to gauge in importance become foreshadowing - "oh, I know where that's going to lead." There are so many bread crumb trails threading their way through the narrative and they come from such unexpected places. To some extent the show having galloped ahead of the books takes away a little bit of the suspense of some of the central mysteries. Oth, the show and book diverge enough that one is never really sure.
  10. Hmmm, not me, but I have a friend I'm going to check with to gauge her level of interest in something like this.
  11. I envy you reading ASOS for the first time. I've read it (and the others) more times than I can remember. Welcome to all! Nice to see lots of new "faces". I expect as the final season of Game of Thrones airs, we'll see another wave of new folk. I personally am more book fan than show. How about you? I'm hoping that after the show is done, we'll get a announcement that TWOW (The Winds of Winter, 6th book in the series) is coming out before Xmas. In the meantime, I hang out on the games forum for things like "outrageous lies about the previous poster" and "acrophobia", a word game. Here's a game forum link
  12. Welcome to Westeros!! Does this mean you've been reading but not responding, or not even? I was a member for a year or two before I started reading and following any part of the site on a regular basis. Have you ever visited the Games Forum? That's where I hang out. Feel free to drop in and say hi! WELCOME! Good to have you in the fold. As I mentioned to PotT above, I am mostly on the Games Froum. There we chat about life (on TTTNE - The Thread That Never Ends), play pictionary, word games and fantasy sports. Feel free to jump in! https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/
  13. Welcome to you both! I've been a member since 2012 and enjoy hanging out on the games forum. https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/ Hope you both find a place on the site that is fun for you too.
  14. Welcome Cali! Your English is fine, and understandable. I apologize that I don't delve into the theories at all so can't help you find anything you haven't seen already while lurking. What I can do is point out the games forum pages - we're a pretty friendly community and easy to join through games. There's even a tree decorating thread up now. Hope to see you there.
  15. Welcome to Westeros, Adaaam! Most of the spammers i know here share your opinion and some aren't even that fond of the books, but just love the community they find here. As a long time member of the games forum branch of this site let me invite you to join us in various ASOIAF related (and some not like fantasy football) games: https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/ and The Thread That Never Ends:
  16. Greetings!!! Nice to have you whether lurking or posting! I'll copy what I wrote above. I like to greet new people and tell them about the little corner of the site where I and some friends hang out. You'll find us in the games forum. It has everything from fantasy football to the Elimination Game, and Outrageous Lies about the previous poster. Lots of silliness. And there's the thread that never ends (TTTNE) - essentially a long running conversation among friends.
  17. Hi! Nice to have you on westeros!
  18. Welcome back! Some here (not me) have been around all those years since you were last on the site. A bunch of my friends over in TTTNE (The Thread That Never Ends - current thread here: ) have been posting on the regular those 8-9 years and then some.
  19. Welcome to Westeros! I wish you luck with your book. It must be an exciting and nerve wracking time for you. Greetings! For all who are new to this Forum I'd like to point out two things: - there's a list of abbreviations thread that may be helpful in understanding some of the conversations that go on here. link below in my signature line. - Forum Games hosts a number of different ASOIAF related contests. There's also TTTNE (The Thread That Never Ends) which is a years long running conversation that ends in a race to be poster #1000. That poster's reward is to start the next extension of TTTNE. Currently, it's TTTNE #473: An Obsession of Joshes.
  20. I don't agree. I like the these setup chapters a lot. I think in this case setup is perfect - it's a teaser. It's what Martin does, and does very well - because here we are!
  21. You say, "setup" like that's a bad thing. All of the leaked chapters so far have been setup. I think setting up is the perfect thing for leaked chapters intended to whet our appetites for the real thing.
  22. Just as well. This year promises to be a messy one. Save yourself for the next 2013. :hat:
  23. I haven't posted here for a while - I have been remiss. So let's make up for that. . . I think I have already welcomed you, but reading that you're still in your first time through ACOK made me so jealous I had to respond. I just finished rereading ACOK (for maybe the fifth time? I'm losing track) and that one grows on me every time. ASOS is a tour de force - you have that to look forward to on first read, but I don't enjoy it as much on reread as I do some of the others. The final two books (AFFC and ADWD) are . . . not sure how to describe them. Words like "complicated' and "dark" come to mind - but those could apply to the entire series thus far. I guess it's best I don't say more - let you find out yourself. I will say this: I doubt you'll be disappointed and you will be begging for more (as we all are: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/123365-bumping-for-twow-v3/). Welcome to Westeros, Ryan!! Always nice to have another New Englander on board. I'm a Vermonter. Are you a Red Sox fan as well? Welcome to Westeros, Simeon!! You are the second Bulgarian that I know here. The other one is our current king of the spam court.
  24. After a bit of a lull, it is nice to see so many new faces coming to westeros/ Welcome to Westeros! I lost my mother 35 years ago and I still think about her every day. I try to take the things I learned from her and pass them on to my daughter. Nicely said, Leonardo. I loved the Screwtape letters too. :) Welcome to Westeros! It is a series worth obsessing over, in my opinion. Welcome to Westeros! There's another Air Force poster running around here. Can't call him a veteran yet because he's still serving. Welcome to Westeros! Many of us got hooked on the TV show first - I saw two episodes then started the books. The show has not seemed very good to me ever since. I can barely watch it now, but I keep rereading the series.
  25. Welcome to Westeros!! My niece graduated from Kalamazoo. But perhaps you're at one of the big Us - Sparty or Wolverine? It was nice to see you on TTTNE. One of our stalwarts there is the SCA member I spoke of. She met her husband there and then got married in costume. Welcome to Westeros!! Florence?! What a beautiful city! Visited once and didn't want to leave. I'm a crazy rereader: AGOT maybe x 7; ACOK 5; ASOS 5; AFFC 4; ADWD 4. Welcome to Westeros!! I've been exchanging notes with LB, Lady Blizzardborn, who is a Wisconsonite like you. Your winter and ours here in Vermont seem pretty similar. Welcome to Westeros!! I'm lucky, I came here after I was done reading. But I don't mind spoilers. I actually looked up the series on wikipedia to find out what was coming. Ironically, for me it deepens the mystery. Knowing what will happen is not the same as knowing how it will happen and what the roller coaster of emotions will be doing at the moment the event occurs. And Martin is an absolute master at wringing every possible ounce of surprise out of each event. So enjoy the rest of the series (so far).
