  1. Welcome! Hope you have a great time here! Welcome Nymeria10K! You're now the second person on Westeros I know from the UK who is a law student. I have made the other aware of you - so you may well hear something soon. You haven't shipped any one in ASOIAF yet?! Let me tell you, others are not so reticent. I will not say more because I'm not a shipper anyway. But it is not hard to find some who will gladly indulge in a little shipping. :P Samwell is a great character. Love him to pieces and is it John Bradley that plays him? Forget the name, but he's very good too. As for writing and sharing your writing - it's true that it is not done here, but I do know other writers on Westeros and I have seen their work (non ASOIAF based). :ninja: Some draw the fan fiction line at hypothesizing about the R+L plot line which I find a little drastic, but that's just one man's opinion . .. .
  2. He looks like a Sherlock - the Basil Rathbone Holmes, not Cumberbatch. :) As a teen I had a border collie/beagle cross, named Grizzly. She was as much fun as she was trouble (loved chasing deer).
  3. If that means you spend more time here? ;) maybe :leaving:
  4. Welcome lurker! Almost all of us lurked a little at first. and Crackpot theories are fun, it is known. But Westeros has all sorts of other fun things to distract you from work. What do you like: fantasy sports? Chatting with friends? Word games? I spend most of my time in forum games (http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/forum/18-forum-games/) and we love fresh meat new faces :P or here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/115892-tttne-434-sorry/page-11
  5. Sounds like you might have had some help. ;) Welcome to Westeros Denvek!
  6. Welcome Lee Daly. I love rereading the books and what I'm getting is that AFFC and ADWD are better and better with each rereading. Also, I rediscovered a cool game in Forum Games called post a random ASOIAF passage: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/113789-post-a-random-asoiaf-passage/#entry6137320
  7. Welcome to the madhouse! ;) Hey GMM!! The spamily misses you and has been asking about you. The spam is moving very slowly these days, so a quick check in from you would not go unnoticed! btw: when did you become Grand Maester instead of Grand Moff? After the WC, I'm guessing.
  8. My ambition is to do what you're doing. Retire and read. Nice to have you here!
  9. Welcome ByTor! 6 weeks - very impressive!! Also impressive is that you figured out both the purpose of the spoiler and how to use it (I struggled with the thing at first). You've almost summed up Westeros in a nutshell with your character list. I like to think of George Martin (GRRM) as Tolkien by way of Bayonne, New Jersey - his fable has that NJ grit to it and Sansa is the guide to getting from there to Westeros ("I don't think we're in Middle Earth any more Toto"). There are lots of passionate Sansa fans here - and some who can't stand her. Myself? I'm more of an Arya fan. But I don't dislike Sansa at all. Plus she's our eyes on Littlefinger, who slimy as he is, is at the center of the plot (along with Varys). I won't comment on all your comments, but you really have hit the highlights. Stannis gets lots of love, as does Davos. People have pretty much written off Ned, but Stark love and Catelyn love is strong. Really interesting reading! You sum it up in very entertaining fashion - well done! You do know you're not done reading, right? There's the Dunk & Egg stories and The Princess and The Queen (tPatQ) and a couple more prehistory short stories. You'll find most of westeros has read them. I have not, but I'm the outlier. In my sig line below you'll find a link to an abbreviations thread - a long list of them. It may help you out puzzling through some things on the board. and here's a few more links: Forum Games Forum games is for ASOIAF related gaming. That's where I mostly hang out. And here's a thread about things a new person to Westeros might want to read. As you can see, I posted this a year ago when I was a noob and I got some good responses. Recommended threads for a noob to read
  10. Good morning my friends of Westeros! Great to have you as a friend as well, KT I!
  11. Welcome! Westeros really has increased my enjoyment too - and I have made a ton of friends here - like that royal guy right above me (Hi KT I!).
  12. Hi Mother of Others! There are a lot of members of Westeros.org from the Ex-Yu here. Last year there was a thread posted by Mladen about it and how people around the world see the Ex-Yu countries. And of course, because of the filming in Dubrovnik for GOT we are all much more aware how beautiful your country is.
  13. Hi Lowri! Silly boy. Stop scaring people. ;) Besides I thought it was tuna you sought. Have you put down the rebellion yet? Hi Creighton! Welcome to Westeros.org! Last year when I joined I posted a plea for older heads to suggest threads a newbie should read. I got some great responses: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/92504-what-threads-would-you-recommend/ (As I look at that post from July 11, 2013 it's funny to see the number 54 for the R+L=J threads. They're at 89 and gong strong today.) eta one more thing: the link in my signature line, "abbreviations" will take you to a very long list of abbreviations used on this site. Some are general but most are ASOIAF specific and will help keep you from suffering puzzlement. :)
  14. Hi Eire, welcome to Westeros! Interesting post! Some suggestions: - I agree with Jon Weirgaryen that you ought to read ADWD before going too far into Westeros - there will be spoilers. However, most of what you discuss is from the show only - does not appear in any book so far. Allegedly, D&D, the show's producers have talked to George Martin about what's coming, so there is or will be some support in the books for what they are showing you on TV. - you might read this article about the Others/White Walkers from the Wiki of Ice and Fire, I think it answers some of your points: Wiki on the Others/White Walkers - you could post this as a new topic on the TV show forum. You'll get a wider audience and people there may be able to point you toward sources and hypotheses to consider. forum for TV show related topics - have fun! :)
  15. Your English is fine! Don't worry, have fun & welcome to Westeros.org!! "nobody will will notice" ? . . . but you already told us :leaving: Welcome! You should feel right at home here. The Ex-Yu is well represented.
  16. Welcome to Westeros Wolf Dreams! We all have withdrawals waiting for TWOW. Here's one silly way to help pass the time: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/110264-bump-this-thread-every-day-until-twow-releases/ There are also some leaked chapters around if you don't mind or even like spoilers. Let me know if you're interested and I can post a link or two.
  17. And the King of Spam would know! ;) [_]P & (since it is just noon here, one could go either way. :)
  18. I would second what King Tyrion I said. You and I have no way to know who accesses the information, pictures and etc we put here. And to what purpose that info might be used. KT I, you can confirm or deny, but it seems to me we Americans share more than European and other non-American posters on this board. That's an unscientific opinion. And I have no explanation for why it is true, if so. Just something to be aware if a fellow poster seems stand offish. If you would like to get to know a group of ASOIAF/Westeros.org fans personally, this is a nice group (imo) that both KT I & I are part of: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/112857-tttne-430-and-they-spammed-happily-ever-after/
  19. There is a Rogues Gallery, but only 94 (including me) of 70,000 are on it. Only a handful that I know are there: http://asoiaf.guppysfilms.com/categories.php?cat_id=1 If you want to post your own picture there, the top post on this page has an email address where you can send it: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/19107-rogues-gallery-re-open-for-business/ @Aptdando: welcome! Nice to have Italy, France, and Spain all represented on one page of the introductions thread. In case any of you are followingthe World Cup, there's a lot of interest for that here as well and you can find the topics being discussed here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/forum/97-copa-do-mundo-world-cup-2014/
  20. There aren't a lot of places I really want to go, but Spain is on my short list. Glad to have you here.
  21. Hi TMC (we tend to acronyminize - just made up a word there I think - almost everyone's username here. But you can be Mad Cow or Cow or Maddie or whatever you want. Just let us know and we'll respect that), I tend to be known as hc or chicken because my real username is honeyed chicken - a book ref, of course. The Pollo name is a temporary World Cup homage. Although people have been known to change usernames from time to time. You don't have to stick with what you have now. You could also maybe use your avatar to make clearer what you want your name to mean. Have fun! Welcome! You're the first French poster I've met. Otherwise Europe is pretty well represented: England, Scotland, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Croatia, Russia, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Dominican Republic, USA, Canada - and those are the ones I know of - there are sure to be many more. Hi Sapphireghost! Welcome to the land of ASOIAF worship! :D
  22. Hey Four-Eyed Raven! Welcome. You were right. This is definitely spoiler heaven. Not only that, but these boards abound with theories and counter theories. Most of them I personally never dreamed of till I got here, but several I now accept as gospel (or the next best thing). So my advice? Finish the books, then dig in to Westeros (as we all settle in for the long wait for TWOW) and prepare to have your perception of ASOIAF (A Song Of Ice And Fire) rearranged! Enjoy! :)
  23. Hi Carcer! Welcome. The Germans look awful strong in the cup. I'm getting the sense it may come down to them & the French, but maybe I'm crazy. My daughter replied and said, in essence that he's not changing her mind, plus she doesn't have time to read . . .so we'll see. Jon Weirgaryen is right. If you're only part way into book 1 you want to be careful which Westeros forums you go into. In most of them they're going to assume you've already read all the books. Another writer! Not me, but I know other posters who are working on fantasy novels of their own. Hi Lance! Many of us like those same things. Not so many sci-fi fans actually, but enough.
  24. Hi Seth, Welcome! :) I liked what you wrote so I copied and sent it to my daughter. She likes the show, but didn't like GRRM's writing after reading a couple chapters. I've been telling her she's missing out. Anyway - hope you have fun here. I do! Hi Vita! Welcome and have fun. There's a lot to do in Westeros. Personally, I'm geeking out about the World Cup. There are Westeros fans who also like sports - not a ton, but some. They're here: World Cup forum
