How would you rate episode 410?

5/10. The most disappointing episode of this show. Ever. I guess I just have one question for the show writers.... Why change things that are so perfect in the books...?!?! There is a reason people obsess and love this book series, it's cause George is a damn good writer that crafts fantastic scenes of dialogue and character development. The show does none of this. I'll save my complaints to the nitpicking thread, but seriously, I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a visual adaptation than Tyrion's entire final scene this episode. That chapter was an absolute masterpiece, and the show watered it down and changed it and fucked with it so much I have to wonder if the people that make this show ever LIKE the books in the first place. So yeah, I heavily disliked this episode, and season as a whole. Oh well though. I'm just a book purist I suppose, so don't take what I say seriously.

How would you rate episode 409?

    6. I was gonna give it a 7 while I watched it, but I wasn't that impressed. Yeah, I know, they did the best with the budget they had, but I just wasn't very excited. I never felt like there was any tension, and the deaths didn't have any emotional impact on me (except making me happy that Ygritte is finally dead). There were some cool moments, sure, and I was never bored. I really enjoyed the Sam/Aemon chat, but I would have preferred it was in episode 8, maybe, instead of, you know, NO FUCKING STANNIS ARRIVAL. I checked, and this has been the shortest episode of Game of Thrones ever. They had ten minutes already left to put Jon's meeting with Mance and the arrival of Stannis, and they could have taken out the dumb Jon/Sam talk about sex. That would have given them almost fifteen minutes extra time! I understand that the battle spans over more than one night, but when you spend eight bloody episodes building UP to the battle, I expect that was done so the episode could be a complete package, not have some cheap and lazy cliffhanger at the end. The battle ended suddenly, and there was no proper climax. Now the result of this dumb decision is that Stannis' most heroic and cheer worthy moment will just be an afterthought, quickly wrapped up so we can get more Khaleesi and the funny dwarf, cause gods forbid Stannis gets any meaningful time dedicated to just him. Seriously, sometimes the decisions this show makes just piss me off, I'm sorry.

Jon specifically mentioned Eastwatch and the Shadow Tower in 3x5, when talking to Tormund about their numbers, and Jeor mentioned Cotter Pyke in passing in 1x10, so they do technically exist, but whether we'll actually see them is a different matter.

Oh don't worry, the now sure-to-be rushed as fuck finale will more than make up for it. I hope we're allowed to catch at least a small glimpse of Stannis walking by next episode, what with all the Daenerys and Tyrion bullshit we'll be subjected to.

Well fucking fantastic. So Stannis' ONE BIG ACTUAL HEROIC MOMENT is just gonna get shifted in among the other 12 important events that will happen in an already stuffed to the brim finale? Well...... great. Good job at the pacing D&D.

Wait, so I haven't watched this episode yet, but...... what is this I hear about Stannis not arriving at the Wall yet? What the actual fuck???? Someone say it ain't true. I seriously do not want to have to wait another week to finally see Stannis again.

How would you rate episode 408?

Agreed. According to my IMDb profile, I've only rated 14 things a 10... ever. And Game of Thrones doesn't even begin to approach their level of quality.

How would you rate episode 408?

I don't exactly want to give any episode of Game of Thrones a low rating. I want to love them, since I love the books and season 1 was absolutely amazing. The show has potential. That's why it's disappointing when it doesn't quite reach the level of greatness it can. I don't find it appropriate to give a disappointing episode of Game of Thrones a 10, when I give the same rating to masterpieces like There Will Be Blood and Apocalypse Now. When an episode of Game of Thrones genuinely wows me, I'll be the first person to give it a high rating and praise it endlessly. Until that point though, I've got to be honest with myself and give it an honest rating.

Did you even read what I wrote??? I specifically outlined my reasoning behind that statement. You clearly are getting worked up over someone having a different opinion. Don't worry though, I'm done with this thread and trying to explain my arguments. Clearly it's causing too much angst.

How would you rate episode 408?

Nope, even when some people offer valid reasons for not liking a scene, they get shut down and attacked by those that love the scene. Accusations of "nitpicking" and "book-purist" are almost definitely gonna get thrown around. I could outline a very long and detailed essay of why I disliked this episode, but what would that achieve apart from offending the sensitive people here that can't accept someone else's opinion?

How would you rate episode 408?

Clearly my opinion has offended you somehow. I never said anything like "filthy casual," I only said that those that haven't read the books are obviously not going to have anything to compare the scene to, unlike those that have read the books. I suppose I just am less forgiving of the show not doing justice to scenes I love...? Your attitude seems a bit over-the-top for what is simply a differing of opinion.

How would you rate episode 408?

Well good for them. Unlike them I've actually read the books, and loved them, and even with my (much lowed) expectations I was still disappointed. Frankly I don't give two shits what the non-readers think, cause it doesn't make me any less disappointed or frustrated.

How would you rate episode 408?

Heavily underwhelming and poorly handled episode, in my opinion. A 5 out of 10. Everything was just.... not good. It's easier to list the things I didn't hate, and that would be.... Littlefinger's reference to dying on the privy? That was kind of amusing, I guess. Pascal also gave a good performance. That's...... kind of it, though. Everything else just sucked. I honestly don't even have it in me to keep complaining about this show. It's just so beyond what my worst fears would be. Everything feels so underwhelming and rushed and generic. *sigh*

How would you rate episode 407?

Well unless something pretty drastic and shocking happens, I don't see how Arya would have the pure hatred for Sandor in the show that she had constantly towards him in the book.

How would you rate episode 407?

A very solid 7 out of 10. Definitely my favourite episode of this season, and the one I've rated the highest. I didn't like Arya, Daenerys or Brienne's scenes though. Arya's little monologue about nothing was really dumb and cringeworthy and trying to be deep and meaningful, but it fell flat to me and seemed like it was trying to hard. I'm also wondering how exactly Arya is going to do what she does soon with Sandor, seeing as how their relationship seems much more caring and mutual now. This doesn't work. Also, what exactly is going on with Yunkai, Jorah and Daario? So does this mean Jorah's fate will be different to that of the novel's? And with Brienne's scenes... I don't know, something seems off about her. She seems much more loud and snarky than normal. I prefer the quiet and shy Brienne of the books, but whatever. Although I mourn the loss of what seems to be nearly all of her Feast storyline (which I actually liked), it was pretty funny having Hot Pie have a little cameo, and for once D&D seem to be showing a little bit of continuity between seasons, which has been sorely lacking this season. Oh and Emilia is still a really bad actress, I'm sorry. I can't believe she has the same tone when ordering a guy to strip that she does while holding court. She has no range, sad to say. I also thought that scene should have been built up more, and it's weird that after all the needless and gratuitous sex in this show, they don't show this one? One that is arguably more relevent than most the show has done? And I'm not just saying that cause I wanted to see Emilia naked again...... okay well a bit of me is  The Melisandre scene made up for it though, even though other than Carice's beautiful body the scene was rather forgettable. I would have rather had a Stannis scene. Also, the Jon scene was ridiculously redundant and pointless, and really didn't need to be there. All it did was establish Yarwick (sp?) as a character, which while I'm glad for, this scene still really was unnecessary. We get it, Alliser Thorne is an asshole. But that's enough of the negatives. Now to the positives, and this episode there were quite a few big ones for me. First of all, I'm ridiculously happy they kept the Tyrion and Bronn farewell scene very accurate. I was very surprised they bothered keeping in Lollys and Falyse and Bronn's marriage and new lordship. I loved that little subplot he got in the books, and I'm very glad they are keeping it in the show. Unlike Tyrion's other farewell scene with Pod, which I thought was very cheesy and sappy and dumb, I thought this one was done excellently. I also loved the Oberyn and Tyrion scene. Now that is how a long conversation is done, D&D. No cheese, no sentimentality, just straight up good dialogue and acting. Although I must give GRRM all the credit here, since I was very hopeful the show would include the Casterly Rock visit story, so I'm really happy they did. The bit where Oberyn tells Tyrion "I've come to the perfect place," was really awesome, and finally convinced me this guy is the only guy for Oberyn. And of course finally, the Eyrie scene was fantastic, and just as good as I hoped for. Everything was perfectly done, from the beautiful snow-covered Eyrie, to Sansa's Winterfell, to Sansa slapping Robin (a change I really liked), Littlefinger reminding us he's a creep, and then the great final scene with the Moondoor. All was done amazingly, and I have no complaints. Wow, I honestly think this is the first episode of season 4 I've come away from really satisfied. I want to rate this episode an 8, but the unremarkable first three quarters hold me back. The final fifteen minutes though were incredible, and the best parts of this season so far by a long shot. Hopefully this momentum is kept up for the final three episodes, which I'm sure it will be.

So does anyone think we'll see Yara (I refuse to call her Asha, cause she isn't the same person) again this season, or was this it? Will we maybe see her pass through Moat Cailin or maybe back at Pyke in time for a certain person's death?

How would you rate episode 406?

Agreed. Dinklage was great in this episode, but he's been somewhat unremarkable the past five episodes (not really his fault; the writing's been a bit off). While he deserves a nomination at least, there is no way McConaughey doesn't win the Emmy. His monologue in 1x2 about his daughter actually almost brought me to tears, and nothing I watch ever does. One could pick any scene with McConaughey in it and present that to the Emmy's.

How would you rate episode 406?

I gave it a 6. The last scene was fantastic, and Peter Dinklage really brought the intensity to the scene. My favourite scene of the season so far. The rest of the episode was pretty crap honestly. I was very disappointed by the Braavos scene with Tycho, and I expected it to be more memorable. Kind of pissed off Stannis said like three sentences, but whatever, at least he wasn't burning infidels. The Dany scene was as exciting as cardboard, and just as flat. So what's up with the goatheard? Are we still getting what really happened in the books, or is this it? Pretty good they had Hizdahr call Dany out on crucifying an innocent man. That was pretty lol-worthy, just to shove it in the faces of Dany fanatics. And I guess Yara's whole trip was entirely pointless then? Ummm... okay then. That's done now.... If it wasn't for the trial at the end I would have given this episode a 5. For once the King's Landing scenes actually made an episode better. Still, I'm very disappointed in this episode. I expected to be a lot more entertained and interested, and it just felt very flat and lifeless, like everyone was just going through the motions, wanting to get it all wrapped up. The episode - and the show as well now - has been missing a certain 'spark' it had in the dialogue and pacing that the show used to have.

How would you rate episode 405?

5 out of 10. Worst episode of the series in my opinion, rivaled only by The Bear and The Maiden Fair and The Climb. We are now seeing yet again the massive downside of extending A Storm of Swords over 20 hours. Nothing that happened in that book happened in this episode. This is pretty much licensed fanfiction at this point. All the acting and writing is wooden and dull and underwhelming as shit, and the pace is crawling slower than a snail. And what the fuck was up with that Jon Arryn murder plot reveal? I'm too tired to complain about this more, but basically I thought everything in this episode sucked. I can't think of a single positive remark to make.

How would you rate episode 404?

I'm kind of depressed that the two most (only) interesting characters in Dany's arc, Jorah and Barristan, have no lines and two lines respectively. I loved how Barristan delivered his line about mercy to Dany though. That's the Barristan I love.

How would you rate episode 404?

6 out of 10. It's very obvious they're running incredibly thin for book material, so that's why nearly all of this episode was "original" stuff. I feel like Daenery's moment of cruelty was rushed and not properly done (what do you expect, they didn't want to ruin her complete transformation into Jesus Christ the Savior). The Grey Worm and Missandei bit was kind of pointless. I don't really like how anything in King's Landing is developing right now. It's moving at a snail's pace and becoming very redundant. The Oathkeeper scene was kind of anti-climactic and flat, and lacked the cathartic nature it had in the book. Tyrion continues to be The Greatest Man In Existence™. The Jon stuff was probably the best of the bunch, but even then it felt very lifeless and dull. The Bran stuff is taking too far a deviation that may have a butterfly effect, and the stuff at Craster's feels a little pointless. We get it, they're villains. Karl was pretty entertaining so I'll give it that though. Also funny to see Ser Pounce was included, but I'm really not liking this new Tommen. I've given it a couple of episodes, and since I still don't like him nor think he fits the characterization properly, I'm gonna toss that one up to a mistake on the show's part getting rid of the old Tommen, who was perfect. And the stuff with the White Walkers.......... mmmk. Very, very weird and random. I don't exactly know how "in-canon" this is for the books. I'm hoping this isn't the beginning of Winds material. Bryan's dialogue was acceptable, I suppose, but this season is really running on fumes when it comes to the pacing and structure.
