  1. AMEN. Gotta vent, guys.... I am so underwhelmed (like others, I think) by the Wall material. Out of all the things I was looking forward to this season, I think Stannis's arrival at the Wall was #2 and I was extremely disappointed in how downplayed I felt it was. In the books I feel like that is such a powerful moment, and it was a great opportunity to take advantage of George's writing... but nope. On the positive, I am so happy to see Stannis and Davos back in the game. Stannis realizing who Jon is was a great scene, and so was the scene with Melisandre staring at Jon across the fire. I LOVE when they play with foreshadowing in this show. I loved the scene with Qyburn and Cersei, it was like a sample of things to come with season 5. Robert Strong confirmed. I also loved the scenes with Daenerys. Locking her babies away... and also chaining up her true self, it was a powerful scene. Definitely made me have some feels and left me wanting more. I liked the Hound and Brienne scene until the fighting just became unrealistic. I was praying to all seven Gods the whole time that Arya wouldn't kill the Hound, and thus kill the Gravedigger theory, but it looks like we're still fully on for that one as well :) Thank you D&D! Arya going to Braavos as the last scene... puts in perspective how important her storyline is yet to be. Also, for all those complaining that Arya and Sandor didn't stay at the Vale -- that would have changed the entire story...Come on now. And I don't think Killer!Arya gives two shits about some highborn, crazy aunt she has never met. I loved seeing my very favorite parts of this story translated onto screen, don't get me wrong... but the lack of special effects with the Bran material just made me cringe. Why is that Child of the Forest a dirty, tiny human? Why is Bloodraven Pycelle's brother and not a tree? Why are the Children of the Forest throwing hand grenades? WHERE THE HELL IS COLDHANDS? I am just grateful they scripted some awesome dialogue straight from the source! A thousand eyes and one... You will fly... I loved that. Sad about Jojen, but we all knew it would happen. I don't mind book spoilers so much. The final scene was good. I don't give a fig about Tysha, I'm actually relieved they didn't put it in. It was a powerful scene. I believe they're going to replace the Tysha issues with Shae anyway. Seriously, too much time & money spent on reanimated skeletons and not enough time spend on shit that actually matters. Just like the rest of this show. I love ASOIAF, and I will keep watching because I love this story as a whole. I am not rating this episode. I don't even know what to think.
  2. Rewatched the preview, but didn't see the ships. I could have sworn I saw them sometime last night when I was tuned into HBO. I guess I shouldn't drink before I watch the episodes anymore. :blushing:
  3. Hm... well, I'd inferred by the letter Davos read, and the scene with him, Mel, and Stannis last season (i guess?) that they would be going to the Wall. I suppose as a hardcore book reader and a casual show watcher I may have gotten ahead of myself :) I think there was a snippet in the preview for next week of what I assumed to be Stannis's ships setting sail for the Wall. I will have to go rewatch it on Youtube. If it turns out to be Stannis, I believe we may see him leaving in episode 8, briefly. I'm too lazy to look up the cast listing, atm!
  4. It makes me feel bad for Selyse, but I know I shouldn't. It's been a while since I read this (i'm almost there on a reread) but was there actually any discussion of not taking Shireen to the Wall? It's been established for a few episodes now, I thought. When I saw this scene I wondered why the heck they haven't left yet. Despite it all, it's quite a journey to the wall, especially in late fall. I guess I am just super confused about the direction they're taking this plotline in.
  5. Maybe it was bad acting but I had a hard time believing Selyse when she said that it was okay because of religious reasons. Either way, it was something that is really hard for me to wrap my head around. I have no idea what that scene meant.
  6. I feel the same way and I have been blasted on here a couple times for being a "purist." Thank you for succinctly summing up how I feel about the TV show. I have tolerated all of the departures from the books, even liked many of them, although it seems like the further we get along, the more the departures really mean to the story - perhaps because we're getting closer to the end. I fully agree that if you're going to provide filler, at least make it better or more believable then what is going on in the books. I didn't like this scene that much.. it was cool to see Mel's things, but the unnecessary nudity was ridiculous and the insinuation that Mel will use Shireen for something was too much. I too thought Selyse was attracted to her by the way the camera panned down. I hope they won't make that a thing. Maybe it was supposed to be jealousy and I missed it...
  7. I think Stannis reaches the Wall in the last episode, based on information we've seen. I hope so. I can't wait :) I'm wondering if Brienne will meet the Mad Mouse on her journey to the Vale. I'd also love to see the Stoney Sept scene. It's one of my favorites in the series.
  8. I gave this episode a 10, the second time this season. I really enjoyed this episode, I don't think there is a scene I can complain about. Emilia Clarke was absolutely radiant. I loved the scene with her and Michiel. Rory McCann is the Hound, as ever. I love him so much in the show, and I will be sad to see him go. I hope we see him again. The acting was so good in this episode. I'm glad they stayed faithful to the books by including the snow castle Sansa builds, and the story Oberyn tells about Cersei. It's those little things that really enhance the character building for me. I enjoyed seeing it translated onto screen. As others said, nicely setting up the story for later. Standout episode for me.
  9. This made me sad, I've been trying to come up with reasons for her to say this that don't reach this conclusion. :/
  10. Maybe LF will tell them that she fell on accident. The scene with Oberyn pleased me so much. I'm so happy they included the story about Oberyn's visit to Casterly Rock. That's something that was in the books that told me exactly how bad Cersei is. After watching this, I want the Hound to get revenge on his brother so badly....sigh...
  11. Right? I'm beyond happy they included the castle building, but I really wanted to see Corbray almost recognize Sansa, and the Lords Declarant stuff as well. Really hoping the plot line moves forward from here to include the politics....
  12. ONLY CAT??? Rory McCann is such an excellent Hound. What a great episode. Jorah's face when he sees Daario D:
  13. I gave this episode a 9. I would have given this episode a ten if it hadn't included the Theon-bathtime scene, which just wasn't to my taste. The Yara filler was pretty pointless but I guess we have to see the Greyjoys sometime. The scene with her and Theon in the kennel had my blood pumping. Amazing acting and directing. Much better than the Craster's Keep filler. The Hizdahr and Dany scene was my favorite. Great acting, great scene, and love the casting. Very cool that we got to see some of the workings of the IB. I loved that Davos in that scene, and Jaime in the Tywin scene, both question what will happen once there are no Lannisters left. Foreshadowing anyone? Peter Dinklage was on par at the trial. Varys's snappy answer to Tyrion's question - meow! Obyern's questions made me chuckle. Shae's "confession" made me raise my eyebrows. And hell yes to Tyrion's plea. Give me more episodes like this please, HBO!
  14. I completely agree, which is why I'm not sure why I was attacked for my review. I have a different perspective than others who only watch the show. In fact, any and all fans have different perspectives of the show and the book. I never said she was not trying to manipulate the judges, only that I thought it was out of character and I did not like it. More power to anyone who enjoyed it. I can fully understand context clues. Trust me, "I GET IT"
  15. What YOU don't understand is that book Cersei would never do this. She is not a subtle person, and she isn't going to kiss the ass of the Martells and Tyrells to get the sentencing that she wants. Cersei doesn't give a shit what they think. She is the Queen. PS: I don't "want" the show to be "more subtle" in fact I don't even care about that. The best scenes in this show are when things are explained outright ie: Lysa and LF murdering Jon Arryn. Since you seem to know what book readers think why don't you try picking one up? :dunno:
  16. I give this episode a 5/10. This is my second lowest rating this season so far, tying with the Jaime-Cersei rape scene. I am really disappointed with this season. I hope the remaining episodes are a lot better than what we've seen so far. There have been some stand-out scenes, but there have been even more "bad" scenes in my opinion. Keeping it positive, I loved the Vale scenes. Sweetrobin is just how I imagined him to be. The tension between Sansa and Lysa was palpable. Great acting by all, and nicely written as well. Rory McCann gets the greatest lines in the show. I think he personifies the Hound perfectly, and I love that they're keeping him longer. This is one of the (few!) changes I really enjoy. Pod and Brienne was amusing as ever. I'm glad that the show got a few laughs out of me last night. Comic relief is good. I hated ALL of the Cersei scenes, she is very out-of-character here, which I attribute to bad writing and not bad acting - Lena Headey is a terrific Cersei. No Stannis and very little Daenerys, just more invented scenes. I had written in a thread for the last episode that Bran-Jon would be a miss, and I wasn't disappointed at all... but I hate the entire thing that is going on at Craster's - fluff and filler isn't my style. Usually, I watch the episodes twice and then come to the forums to discuss.. last night I simply went to bed. :(
  17. I gave this episode an 8/10, which was the highest score I've given for an episode yet this season. The only two things that prevented this episode was the Locke situation and the Bran situation. - I'm not sure how they're going to just throw in something as big as Locke looking for Bran and being quite close to that, and resolve it and still be faithful to the books. I'm not happy with the fact that Jon apparently knows Bran's general whereabouts - this is a big deviation for me from canon. Jon's feelings about his family drive a lot of his decisions. - I don't like the Bran deviation either. How tf are they going to get out of there and with Summer's life intact as well? I guess we will see next Sunday.. I'm ok with filler for the sake of it as long as it doesn't affect OTHER storylines or anything from the books as far as canon... but this is not ok for me either. - Daenerys's storyline is so boring this season in the show. I loved how she took Meereen in the books, and all of the drama with Jorah and Daario is just so downplayed here. Give my girl some drama and reason to even exist in this show, PLEASE. I am becoming very disappointed with the new Daario actor, even though I had expressed high hopes for him because I had liked him in other shows. The directors could have stretched out the taking of Meereen over at least two episodes, thereby providing "filler" for the show and explaining to Unsullied how it went down a lot better than I feel like they did. I did love so much about this episode though, that I still feel like it was the best in the season. I loved being spoiled in a way... for me, all new information is good! It's been a long time since my jaw has dropped over learning something new about this world. I don't think that the situaton with the Others is deviating from the books. My boyfriend is currently reading AFFC for the first time and this episode contained spoilers for him from ADWD... so I expect to be spoiled soon enough as it is. Next season will be very interesting if we don't get TWOW beforehand. I will probably not watch it, and discontinue use of the forums until I can read the material first.
