  1. I thought it was decent I gave it a 7. Dany got Robb Starked, oh ne of your people killed one of your prisoners. Though this happened in the books to some extent. Though we don't get the same reaction. Glad to see Drogon. In the books the law applied to everyone in Meereen as well and freemen and slaves both got punished. Though when a person says Dany does not belong in Meereen, could one of the slaves use logic and reply none of us belong here, you took us from our homes and people assholes. I thought Tyrion and Varys were good, they always tend to be good together. Nothing great, but a decent scene. Need to watch it again to catch all the detail. Didn't not care for the house of Black and White, there was a long wait to finally see and really nothing happened in Braavos. Cersei and Jaime I am indifferent on, but I liked Kevan and Cersei and the Small council. Jaime and Bronn I enjoyed, Jaime looked pretty pimp in his new outfit. The election made sense, though I don't think it should of been that close, nobody liked Thorne. Now half the people like him which goes against both the books and the show. Also Aemon picking Jon was totally predictable. But I really enjoyed Shireen, however I am not thrilled about the horrific heavy handed foreshadowing with her. Jon and Stannis play well off eachother. I iked that Stannis was not overly angry about Jon putting Mance out of his misery. Dorne, two episodes in and we finally see it for 10 seconds and the water Gardens look great, but again nt much going on, Elaria or whatever her name is annoying. I am so angry Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I think that is about it, some flat scenes some good scenes, nothing to bad, but nothing great. I gave it a 7 but could of given it a 6. Some annoying little things, not sure why a freeman execution was made a public display, that did not make much sense and we were not privy to the reason why. Darrio and Hiz, their is something going on their I think. ETA: Totally forgot Pod, LF, Sansa, and BT, probably not a good thing a forgot it. Umm was a little shocked Sansa didn't ask anything about her mother, and thought it felt way to easy for LF and BT does not bother to explain anything but glad to see she decided to follow. Which is not a bad plan considering her current situation. Though you would think killing her would be priority number 1 for LF. As she knows he is with Sansa.
  2. Welcome to the forum, and Mance should of bent the knee. He may of lost respect, but the thing is this is life and death, and at the very least Mance was given the option to go north of the wall and present the Wildlings with a choice. It's not like they have to take it, but at the very least he could of given them the option. Because of his singular position among the Wildlings, the guy who can walk among all the tribes without a problem he had the chance work this problem faster than almost anyone. Sure he may have failed and Stannis may have killed him anyway but at the very least the Wildlings deserved to know they had a choice and should of been free to make and not have Mance make it for them. Jon is correct in pointing out you can save thousands of lives and not doing so is a mistake. To which Mance basically says yep it's a mistake but I want to make it anyway. He is ok with giving himself the choice to make mistakes but does not afford his own people to make the same choice, he makes it for them. Because he cares. Mance does not have to order them to do anything, all he needs is to present them with a choice. The same deal Stannis presented to him.
  3. You know if you think about the Varys scene plan according to Varys on the show, it goes like this. I knew Robert was going to be a disaster. (Though Robert was preceded by the Mad kinig and followed by Joff, in which case Robert in comparison was an excellent ruler.) So me and a group of Targaryen loyalists decided to save Westeros by putting a good ruler one the throne. (And who was that ruler going back to season one? Why it was none other than Viserys Targaryen, the Mad Kings mad son. And how to accomplish thiss task in order to protect the small folk. Why sell Dany to a Dothraki slaver and have an army of Dothraki slavers invade Westeros to put Viserys the Mad son on the throne.) Well that is a great plan, I am sure a Dothraki slaver hoard led by Viserys would of done wonders for everyone in Westeros. Because that was actually the original plan because Robert was so bad that his entire rule was by and large marked by peace and good weather, while those that came before him and after him were total nightmares.
  4. Just watching your video review of episode one. You and Linda were stuck on the Gold Company right around 23 minutes. Yes they have been mentioned on the show by Davos, and when Stannis was in Braavos he contracted them, that is who he road with at the battle of the Wall. So yes Stannis has the Gold Company with him.
  5. You know what I really loved about this episode, that feeling that the Starks are right Winter is coming. Like when we are in KL and it's all sunny and warm, I could feel the cold, Or when we were in tropical Pentos all sunny and the ocean, very chilly feeling. The Vale where you can see Sansa, Littlefinger, and Royce in the lush green lanscape near the lovely ocean sweating in the shade. Oh and the hot baked sands of Meereen giving one the feeling of frost. Cant's to get the chilly cold darkness of the Water Gardens of Dorne. I mean I can see the fear of Winter coming most at the wall, where while the ground is mostly black dirt and mud, you could see light sprinklings of of powdered sugar here or there and it was nearly a centimeter deep in some spots. The ability of D&D to relate the cold of late autumn early winter on the show is amazing. Truly a skill. Guys where should we film the lush Water Gardens of Dorn, or the cold hard Iron Islands? Mmmmmmmm, well we will probably be forced to film in some place like Spain and it will be all pretty and warm. And this suppose to be early winter and we do need to start relating the cold threat of winter, so the Iron Islands... Ha I 'm just fucking with we are going to party... film in Spain. Any more Greenland shoots? Fuck noooo, I am thiking of moving the Wall set location to the Bahamas. Winters coming? Ha! More like it's better in the Bahamas.
  6. I don't recall him being the one to have Dany executed. In fact Robert ordered it, and Varys agreed, but it was Littlefinger who sent the assasin and Varys who warned Jorah that they would try and kill her but Varys didn't know how. Jorah guessed it was the wine seller. Of course Varys has to agree with Robert while in front of him. But I don't recall him in the show or the books trying to have her killed. He always sends that letter to Jorah warning him about the attempt.
  7. This is a bit of a guess but are they setting up Loras vs. The Mountain? With no Kettles, will Cersei use Olyvar to point the finger at Loras being gay so the faith goes after him instead of Marg? She takes away her brother for her taking away her son so to speak. I also think the show writers are very creative with names, we want you to meet Olyvar a young man in KL, and also meet Olly a young boy at the wall. Perhaps we get to meet an Olive as well a sassy lass from Dorne.
  8. Intresting Nod to the readers in Little Cerse' scene, "they said that you were terrifying wth cats teeth and 3 eyes." Long speculation on a certain black cat in KL and Bloodraven. While obvious it is nice to see on the show. It's minor, but still cool, and that Little Cersei, what a scamp.
  9. I have zero problem with the his acting ability, it is apperant in his work. But that was a poorly written scene in my opinion. In the books and on the show Mance had an arc. What was it? He was trying to save Wildling lives from the real threat. That goes completly against that in that scene. And there was a simple solution to killing him off. He does not bend the knee? Wanna bet, he bends his knees, not bending them does nothing for his people. Have him bend the knee, then send him on mission Val, for several episodes. He is off set, whatever problem existed you don;t have to deal with him. Then he returns hey Hardhome needs our help, and send him to Hardhome with Jon. Let him die there trying to do what he started out doing, trying to save Wildlings. Makes sense for his story, not hard to do, and he gets a death and arc that makes sense. I am not even a big Mance fan or anything, but I do like things to make some sense. I am no writer but that seems to make sense for his story arc.
  10. It was ok, though the scene with Mance and Jon was totally absurd. Hey here is a great deal, we can save all the Wildling women and children, you can have land and be legal citizens, your warriors just need to march south with me instead of you. All you got to do to help this along is bend the knee. "No" What? Why? Cause that's why. And Jon who is generally good at negotiations in the books is like ummmm ok then, later. You want to kill off the actor you miscast? Fine, but write a better scene than two idiots who can't find a clue. I gave it a 6, it was pretty good and typical of first episodes, Tyrion and Varys are fine, I thought the episode felt a little slow. I actually forgot Sansa was in the episode until I thought about it. Dragons looked cool, I am hoping Darrio is plotting with Hiz to get the Pits open, that would be cool. I didn't need to hear "wars to come multiple times." Marg and Loras, ummm what was that scene for? The acting was fine, I thought it was funny, but it's like what was the point? You know great production values, and all that, just did not feel like much happened, nothing really intresting happened, though some Unsullied friends of mine started screaming when they realized the Tyrion was headed to Dany. They are looking forward to that, so am I. I thought Mel was good in that great creepy way she has. For the first time since the series started nothing in KL interested me.
  11. The debate between Mance and Jon was absurd. Mance was just about to invade Westeros to march south and it would be a war he knew he could not win. So along comes, here is a great deal that will save a lot of wildlings, specifically women and children. They get land, and made citizens of Westeros and the men just have to do the same thing they were doing but for a different king. "Ummm No I won't except." Why? "Cause" WTF was that? That was D&D going we don't want this character on the show anymore, bye bye. I don't want to help Stannis, I don't want to help the Wildlings, I just wnt to die. That's pride "no" then what is it? "Cause" So mance would rather let tens of thousands of women and children die, then bend the knee? Nice. And why? Because he didn't want to fight a war, that was already going to be fought by him. What a train wreck of a scene, and Jon who is usually good at negotiating in the books, is basically like, well ok then. Next time just skip the scene and kill the dude for attacking Westeros.
  12. Delete everything between the quote boxes and type snip in it's place. But leave the boxes.
  13. I cannot argue with this reply, well maybe with the endearing part, memorable yes. Endearing? I have to get back to you on that one. At least you didn't bring up the stump munchkin and her fire works.
  14. Just re watched the episode because I had thought I saw something first time around and I did. Did anyone take a good look at Jojen's death scene? Horrible editing. During the battle Meera pushes Jojen back and out of the way. But Jojen partially recovers and is partially on his left side leaning on his left elbow and his head is facing Bran who he is looking at. There are two shots of this, "Bran, save yourself... now! He shouts. As two Skeletons pop out of the ground. Then Jojen for some unknown reason has completely changed positions, he has not gotten up, but instead has for some reason turned his feet to face Bran and laid completely flat on his back and now has to do a crunch to look at him and suddenly has lost any strength as the partially dead body slowly pulls out the knife. So why did Jojen spin around to lay flat on his back and to face his feet towards Bran rather than his head? If you watch the scene you can see there was also no body next to Jojen when he went down. In fact the Body is about 10-15 feet away from Jojen and when he falls he falls away from it. So Jojen went down, 10-15 feet away from the body that will eventually kill him. Turns around on his side to face Bran, as the body must have slowly moved sideways towards him, turns around again to face his feet towards Bran and lays flat on his back, and becomes totally petrified from the neck down. Sit there and lets the body slowly pull it's knife, and then just lays there as as he gets stabbed, he didn't even move his arms. That is some great film work, if you are watching a B rated horror movie.
  15. I agree it is a rather major job of White washing, it also ignores the impact of Tyrion and Jaime and what happens to their relationship. When Tyrion leaves he is suppose to have nothing, his life is destroyed. He got a kiss from his brother, from bitter hatred in the books to hugs and kisses. How did they even arrive at that choice. Jaime is suppose to be developing as a person as well and hey lets ignore that for Cersei sex and hugs and kisses. How does it even stay remotely true to the idea of the books?
  16. I just wanted to address the Tysha thing, at least for me. Its not about where do whores go. Although that reads mostly like a koan in the books, though the question itself is a lie. Tysha was not a whore, so why would she go where they go. For me it was about the honesty that Jaime showed. The scene between the two does not even come close to capturing anything to do with their parting. Not the feel, not the idea, nothing, they just change the story. Where do plots go?
  17. I got to say I am not a book purist with the show, I get they have to make changes. But it is starting to feel more and more hollow to me. They want escalation and shock and awe, but it really is starting to lack heart and depth. Some changes have been a pleasant surprise, some I don't care for but it's the omission of a lot of the story and the constant white washing of certain characters that is making it feel hollow.
  18. There were parts I really liked and Parts I didn't. Stannis/Davos/Jon/Mance I enjoyed and could of done with more of it, maybe next year. Though the mention of villain music with Stannis I never heard, there is a music that felt like it brought up tension and the mystery. Jon/Fire/Mel, nothing said but good imagery. I enjoy the actor who played Qyburn, I think he is a good fit for the part. Dany and the chaining of the dragons Brie and the Hound, I know it's different, but it was a hell of a fight and I thought it worked well. Hound and Arya, I can't say Arya rocked out the scene but I thought the hound did a pretty good job. Walking skeletons, looks like you don't have to recentyl have died to be raised. Didn't like Cersei/Tywin, kind of pointless just twisting the knife in Tywins death. Jaime/Cersei not really sure the point of that scene. Jaime caves again. Jaime/Tyrion, I think the two actors work well together, but skipping Tysha is another gutting of Jaime. I think with what Cersei said it would of played well as a parallel of the changes and differences between the two. White Washing slavery, it's so great. The Children and Bloodraven. The cave looks like shit, Didn't even bother with a makeup job on Bloodraven, well they did wrap a brinch around his wrist, and he looks to have recently bathed and brushed his long silky hair. The children look totally human and all I could think of was the movie legend when I saw her. But hey clash of the Titans skeletons. Oh and the room Bloodraven was in, all I could think was Dagobah. Oh and Bloodraven does not have two eyes, I mean come on try a little. Even Farscape used makeup and that budget was not Thrones, not even close. Hell keep it in shadow, not even an albino? Just lazy. Tormund and Jon. Pointless. Tyrion and Tywin, anticlimactic. No HOOOOODOR! Bran took over, but come on Not sure of. Jojen death, yeah I know he was suppose to die but that was quick. Fireballs? Just kind of a crapy effect, and that Child does not know how to throw. No Coldhands at all? Was hoping maybe at the cave, but I guess not. It's a 7, some really good stuff and some stuff I didn't like. My hope for the future is now that Stannis and company are the wall both Jon and Stannis will get a little more time along with the watch.
  19. There is no point I asked a question you responded I responded back and then wished you the best. That's it. It was simple curiosity about how this thread works. Was it criteria based or opinion based? It's opinion based that's the answer. You said some people might get upset, I agreed and basically said I wouldn't be one of them. How would I know what you put up, I didn't know what the original list looked like. I just wanted to know how this thread works. That's it, I got the answer, you or whoever was running this before decides what they think is a good theory and posts a link in the OP to promote specific theories deemed popular or widely excepted and it's your job to decide that. I got the answer, I understood the answer, wished you luck made a couple of jokes and that's it. It wasn't a statement it was a question, the point was I was curious. I will not ask any questions again sorry for the trouble.
  20. Question was already answered, honestly I was just curious if there was some sort of criteria standard or it was opinion based. It's opinion based, all good, not a big deal just wanted to know how it worked. I am sure you will do a fine job. Understand my curiosity stems from the idea of grading something called a theory that's all. Simple understanding that theories based off literary work tends to make them really hard to grade. You know this is really good and this is really bad, when it's all theoretical and has it's share obsessive fans. Yes I am sure some will be upset, you will do your best, and honestly I feel a little sorry for you. I have never really read this thread before but I get the sense that you will be on the receiving end of a lot of "why not's" And I can promise you, it's not something you will ever here from me, I figure they get posted anyway right? In the same section of the same thread. I admit I would like my own pinned thread permanently pinned to the very top of the thread. But that's not going to happen good luck, if I come across anything really good I will be sure not to bother you with it and let someone else do it. Now if you had a snarky smart ass section on this thread, I could probably get something posted pretty quick. :) Good luck with this.
  21. I was just curious about something, I don't really frequent this thread but was wondering what decides a theory being posted here? I don't write many theories myself, only a few to date, but I never got why some are posted here and some are not when all of general serves the same purpose, posting theories and such. Is it popularity, personal opinion, preference. Do the mods decide, a poster, just curious about it. Some of those theories and such are pretty good but some of them have blatant holes in them, it just seemed sort of an odd mix to me. One is already proven and as such is not a theory, though I it does deserve some form of credit. And I hate to say it but it seems some are posted on personal bias, which you know seems an odd way to decide anything. I just really don't get it. It says popular and widely excepted. So I was sort of wondering something? I notice they have a pole system over in the tv section for grading the episodes of the show. I was wondering if there is any chance that a poll system can be applied to this thread as well? I know you can't do it for every theory at once, but I thought maybe a one theory a month thing with a simple scale. Though I would get it if that might cause to much of of a stir, or you don't want to see peoples theories get hammered in some cases, because I hear humans have feelings. I am rather curious to see what is actually popular and excepted and what is just posted here because someone likes the idea. Oh and I would like to submit R+L=J v 82 for future consideration. It doesn't exist yet but I have a feeling it will at some point. ETA make that version 84 or possible 85, that thread moves fast.
  22. What time at the wall? So you basically want the Ice cut out of A song of Ice and Fire. You don't need to cut time from something that hardly has gotten any over the last 4 years. Battle of the fist ring a bell? Probably not because it didn't happen. Hey they built it up like it was going to happen, made it a cliffhanger but you know what? Didn't happen. How bout cutting some of that useless KL shit they have done for the actual important KL stuff. Hey get they put in some character development scenes and that's all good, but character development for non characters is where I draw the line. You know the wall is important, you know Stannis is important, and I love the Dink, but I don't need to see him in bad poorly written filler when there is much better stuff in the books that can be spread around to other arcs that are getting short changed. And yeah Missandei is hot on the show, but you know what? Don't need the romance, great they want to give some time to the nobodies to create some emotional impact for when they kill off GW in place of her brothers. But I never met her brothers in the book and it still had impact. And before you run around giving away time to characters that really don't matter, how about giving some emotional impact to some of the actual arcs they have gutted. Or how about spreading the dreams around a bit, last I checked Bran is not the only one who has prophetic dreams. You want more time for some important developments in KL? That's fine there is plenty of wasted time to go around I'm not greedy. How about Stannis? They gut his arc, gut his arc, then create a scene in Braavos that's not needed and it doesn't matter because Stannis was once again unable to think. They want to change some his arc, fine, okay, but at what point has he ever been an idiot? This to hard, Davos help show them your hand, well everything is fixed. Yeah I can skip that crap and be just fine. Poorly written? Check. Waste of time? Check. Weak characterization? Check. Pointless? Check. Or I know lets go to Crasters. Me fucking, fuck, rape, fuck, skull fuck, kill fuck, rape, fuck knives, of fucking alley to fuck up everyone, so fucking fuck fuck, to fuck rape the fuck fuck, out of fuck me so fucking dead fuck, you fat fuck cause I am the best fuck ever fuck, fuck Mormont skull drink fuck and rape. Sorry but fuck that garbage. Or hey lets torture Theon, now lets do it again, now lets mix it up and some boobs, and you know what lets cut his dick off. Well glad that's over with oh shit we are back for more torture, really? I get it, put away the sledge hammer he is being tortured. Oh hey it's Roz... again... oh great. "It's hard for girls like...." No shut up and get off my screen you irrelevant wast of time. Oh she is there to show me how cruel Joff is. Well that's a horse of a different color because I had not picked up on that at all so thank god for Roz. Check Joff is cruel and I in no way would have figured that out without Roz.
