  1. Seriously. She became Daenerys Stormborn in so many ways this episode. Her accent and tone were PERFECT. Valyrian sounds amazing. They did such a good job. I rewound her reveal 5 times and still got goosebumps each time...

I agree. I had goosebumps when that scene started. They did a good job, from Dany speaking in Valyrian but the head Slaver not noticing because he was busy with the dragon. She was excellent and her character is really developing into a legitimate force!

I also really liked the Jaime scenes. They had his rotting hand around his neck and made him drink horse piss, just like in the book. I expect the non-book reading viewers will start to have pity on his character now, too.

Great episode, the best of the season for sure!

  2. It wasn't a fluke, gods be damned.

    hey there

I just finished watching episode 3 just now and right at the end when Jamie was about to lose the hand they played some kind of dropkick murphy version of the bear and the maiden fair. I was pretty stunned.

I should point out I was streaming it but still

anyone else get this? what in 7 hell's is going on?

You had a bad copy. The music didn't start until the credits started to roll. So you missed some dialogue.

  3. I personally quite liked the Cat/Talisa scene, other than the fact that Talisa was in it. I would have preferred Cat direct her comments to the tree itself; that's how badly Talisa works my last nerve. :P

When I'm watching the show, I have to make a conscious effort to remember that it's being made for non-readers of the books as well as people like me. I'm almost envious of the non-readers, because all of this is new to them...they don't know the whole story. They're not aware of what's coming, or why, or any of the other stuff that we have dissected, and analyzed, and pondered. Keeping that in mind, I thought the Cat scene was right on. It showed her humanity, while still keeping the character of her intact.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only reader who is totally annoyed by the Talisa character. I'm curious what the tv-only fans think of her.

I didn't mind the Cat scene, because I know they were attempting to gather more sympathy for her. But I'm not sure this worked for me. The scene portrays her as someone who 'flip-flops' on who they love. That doesn't seem to be in Cat's book character. Her book character is a fierce mother, who is undeterred by her love of and loyalty to family. Book-Cat would go to the end of the world for her family/loved ones. She would NOT flip-flop back and forth between loving someone and despising them like tv-Cat did Jon.

  4. love that Winterfell is smoking in the opening now.

I noticed that too. Very clever on the credits.

    did Summer change colors?

He's definitely lighter. Maybe it's the northern sun. ;-)

    Thoros singing Rains??? What?

Yeah that was Iwan. Looks like he will be getting an excellent intro. BTW does anyone else think Thoros was just trolling singing Rains?

Rated this episode the same as last, BTW -- a seven. It's still slow, and the best thing in it is Paul Kaye as Thoros of Myr... and there's only so much a tertiary character can really do, you know? But boy, everything brightens up when he's on. Last thing I would have expected.

Thoros of Myr was great. I loved him singing Rains of Castamere! yes, I think he was trolling for Lanisters. :-)

Also a future conversation between her and Robb about legitimizing Jon.

That makes sense to me, too. I'm glad they are taking the time now to set that up. We book-readers know they won't be able to in future seasons.
