  1. Killers of the Flower Moon. Loved it. I can't understand how Leo wasn't nominated. I thought it was much, much better than The Irishman. Oppenheimer. It was good, not great. After finally watching, I'm a little surprised at all the hype, awards and box office. I'm happy to see an adult, talky movie do well, but I'm not feeling 'masterpiece' really.
  2. Napoleon. Beautiful, that's about it. What a very, very strange choice to portray Bonapart with such a flat, emotionless, dare I say incel like affect. As if he was a bystander in his own conquest of much of Europe. Phoenix was much too told for this role. How can you have a Napoleon with no charisma? Why is old Phoenix paired with young Vanessa Kirby when the reality was the opposite? What the actual fuck?
  3. More exercise is the simplest first order possible solution. A tired dog is a good dog. Some dogs need 3+ mile walks every day. I'm glad you are refusing to crate the dog when no one is home. Good luck.
  4. You can rewatch 1-4, all the flaws are still there, but the show is good, sometimes great during those years. I also found, that after the horrific 7 and 8, rewatching 5-6, while still bad, were still much better than 7/8 where quality fell off a mountain. Yes, GRRM bears much responsibility for GOT going totally off the rails once they ran out of books. It's interesting that they chose for their project something that had built in so many challenges for an adaptation, instead of something a little more straightforward. It is hilarious in a bad way that Rian 'yes I ruined Star Wars' Johnson is also involved. Doesn't bode well, but we'll see I guess, I have not read the source material.
  5. I much prefer 1984 Baron to the new one. The loss of his hideous facial disease is a shame. I love both Jessicas. Always hated Kyle M so Chalamet is a big upgrade. There is a lot to like in the Lynch version, even though there is a lot that is insanely bad. It's a loss for the movies that they've eliminated almost completely the stuff about the spacing guild. Dune should have a GOT kind of vibe to it.
  6. I've never watched Godfather I&II and not been blown away. Perfect casting, great acting, cinematography, okay I could have used a little less brown, but that's a quibble. I def feel that it deserves its place as 'one of the best movies ever made' even if James Caan wasn't Italian. I can't imagine though what Paramount had been thinking when they wanted Robert Redford to play Michael, that would have been insane. Casino is one of my favorite Scorcese films, I like it much, much better than Goodfellas. Watched The Batman this weekend, which I had completely forgotten even existed. Liked it a lot, but I have hated how the super hero movies all devolved into total camp, jokey one liners and much prefer when they take their stories more seriously. Also Wolf with middle aged Jack, still charismatic as hell, young hot James Spader and Michelle Pfeifer, who was so beautiful in the 90s.
  7. I bet the Chiefs, so Chiefs. Of course Taylor will be there, that was never really in doubt, she's extremely rich and has her own plane. I'm not much of a TS fan other than to say she seems better than most current music celebs, but it's been kind of fun to see an adult discover football and go all in on it, wearing the gear and screaming and jumping around during games.
  8. I don't see a blow out happening, but I guess it's possible. I've not really gotten why the Chiefs are under dogs, I would have put them as a slight edge over the niners, not even accounting for the Taylor Swift conspiracy factor. Chili is made, ribs up next and various munchies.
  9. ROP Galadriel isn't a 'fire brand'. She isn't 'young' and lacking wisdom, she is a lying, unhinged, monomeniacal, genocidal, arrogant jerk with zero leadership skills or emotional maturity.
  10. It was completely mediocre in everything but CGI, which is fine for an Amazon Prime show except that it cost a BILLION dollars and is Tolken. That makes it a failure. I had a pretty hard time getting through most episodes in a single viewing, same for WOT, but I eventually got through it, and I expect I will also watch season 2.
  11. Is there any legitimate reason to believe that ROP will improve? Are there interviews from the showrunners or actors or producers that give any impression of such a desire for 'improvement'? I expect it to be exactly as bad as it was in the first season. The extreme levels of stupidity with the Galadriel/Sauron story and how they ended it, make it impossible to fix the character flaws the show introduced for her.
  12. Finally watched Barbie. Okay, Gosling does a very good job in keeping just the right tone throughout the movie and the production design is unique and inventive. That's all I got. Equalizer 3. Stylish. Violent. Denzel. Three thumbs up.
  13. Not really. The Ravens played pretty poorly from the jump, they did appear to change their general strategy, e.g. abandoned the run, etc.. The Lions played well, then choked, and still almost pulled it out at the end. You could even say that refusing to abandon their tendency to go for it on 4th was a key reason they ended up losing.
  14. Watching Reacher, I don't notice it being any worse than season 1, which I remember exactly zero information about the plot. It's dumb, superficial action entertainment. There is no there there. And, that's fine sometimes. Also rewatched 1948's The Heiress, a masterpiece of directing, casting, acting. It's funny that William Wyler is practically forgotten when it comes to 'best directors' lists these days. Rewatched LOTR, which triggered a remembrance of how much I hate ROP and its dumb version of Galadriel.
  15. Is there even anyone in the 'elite' category right now except Mahomes? Is Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson elite? I don't think so.
  16. If Dak is a top 10 QB, then the NFL has fallen farther than I thought. He's better than average with a strong streak of mediocre.
  17. I didn't expect this. But, I'll take it.
  18. The River Finally came for Bill Belichick. Fantastic [long] article...if you're a BB fan. https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2024/1/11/24029361/bill-belichick-out-new-england-patriots-legacy-robert-kraft-tom-brady
  19. I haven't seen poor things;still surprised its seeing more awards love than saltburn
  20. It's been a bad couple of years. But, let's not forget he was the DC for all the Giant's Parcells superbowls and had finally gotten the hapless Browns to be good before Art Modell pulled the rug out. He has a long history of winning before Brady.
  21. I agree he would have been better to have a GM, or at least a stronger second in command. But, you can't really say that he was a 'bad' GM, considering that there was basically a superbowl appearance almost every other year for 20+ years. That is insane.
  22. Eh, I don't say it wasn't time for BB to leave the Pats, but seriously, they won their last superbowl 5 years ago. The game has not 'changed' other than becoming ever more sloppy and poorly officiated. BB problem was, for whatever reason, he was not a good judge of talent and if he didn't have someone on staff who was, then bad draft/trade decisions would happen. I expectr the Patriots to be mediocre to bad for the next several years, though I do like Vrabel, he's no BB.
  23. There will never be another run like the Patriots last 20 years. It's hilarious and sad to hear my fellow Pats fans blabbing about how 'the game has changed' and BB hasn't. Alrighty then. You're going to get what you asked for and good.
  24. Saltburn. Mixed feelings. I like it more if I don't take it too seriously since it has a lot of plot holes and is somewhat confused thematically. Nice cinematography, excellent acting, obviously a gorgeous setting. R Pike stole every single scene she was in. I'm not a huge fan of the 'eat the rich' type movies, though I know some don't see that this film really fits that genre......but then, Fennel did say that the expectation was the audience would be invested in Oliver and side with him [I didn't and wasn't]....you could see what a freak he was early on in the film when he's stalking Felix...even before any of the other reveals. Also mixed on the 'gross out' scenes, not really offended per se, but they went on for a looong time and not sure we really needed that many minutes devoted to the grave scene or some of the others.
