  1. Welcome @Pindoline the Feeble to the forum! As if being a working from home mom wasn't exciting, I am a working from home daddy of three kids myself. Luckily for me on day shift. Tell me that ain't fair, I have had to put up quite a struggle to finally get there.

Welcome @Penny Lane to the forum. I like Harry Potter too, but not near as half as much as my sons do :)

Welcome @Princess Sansa to the forum! You say it: Beware! The forum is dark and full of spoilers. Maybe you can still change your username to "Queen Sansa I" if that one be still available?

    Welcome @lenneh to the forum!

Welcome @Ser Tony Black to the forum! Good luck when travelling the Riverlands.

    @Jon Weirgaryen: And I don't get a "welcome back", my friend? <sulks>

    Just kidding, of course. ;o)

Now now, @King Tyrion I, you just have to wait your turn, I had only finished hellowing the newcomers from page 193 back up-thread. Actually I only finished the post because the @ - completion for usernames seemed to have gone out of order then, time to call it a day.

Welcome back, @King Tyrion I, glad to have you here.

  2. Welcome @WitchyDaMom / Eloisa, to the forum! Don't waste any more of your time and start reading the books, they are at least 10 times the fun the show gives.

Hadn't you said you're hailing from California, I'd have asked if your username was a pun on being a lady from Wichita...

Welkom @Lord Flanders / Domien, to the forum! Keep reading!

Welcome @The Nightfort Ghost to the forum!

Welcome @Garreth Russell to the forum! Yes, this site is much better than discussions on fb. All you need to do is write some articles or answers.

    Welcome @RetconKillah to the forum!

Welcome back @SerPaladin and I hope you will arange yourself with the world again, as there seems to be no other to be had at the moment. Still you can change some of it, even with kids.

Welcome @Bianne / Bianka to the forum. I am into programming, too.

Not chemistry though, but telco, networking, unified communication and collaboration (read: skype for business etc. :))

    Welcome @CalvoHobbo to the forum!

Welcome @Genia to the forum! Don't fret for Margaery, because if you dig Natalie Dormer and her acting, I am happy that she's still going strong elsewhere. Are you a dancer like your avatar?

  3. Welcome @Barış Solmaz to the forum! Never tried IMDb for discussions myself.

eta: note this community and board is split in tv-show and books forums.
So unless you care for both: carefully stay in yours, if you do not want to be spoiled by the other.

  4. Welcome back @Aderyn and welcome @MarkHollywood to the forum.

Don't worry, after having read and learned and re-examined everything a dozen times, I still manage to sound dumb often enough. But look at the bright side! You'll certainly get extra credits here when we understand you tried hard :). No, joke aside, don't worry and enjoy.

  5. 20 hours ago, Blue Tiger said:

Maybe Abel is a reference to Peter ABELard as well.... both couldn't be with a woman they loved because they belonged to celibate orders - Mance in Night's Watch, Abelard as a teology professor . Both chose to break rules - Mance deserted watch and Abelard had Heloisa as lover.

Interesting notion @Blue Tiger. I reread the little I know of Abelard & Héloïse in Wikipedia as linked and a few more sources to confirm that neither was part of an established order at the time of their affair and later marriage (of which I was unaware until today).

Abelard was an academic, a scholar, let's call him a university professor. But he was neither a priest, nor part of a monastic order then.
At the time, there was no written code refraining such a person from marriage (or knowledge of the other sex).
But on the contrary, a teacher being married was unusual or maybe even unheard of.

Calling Abelard a Theology professor while not being wrong, he was and continued to be famous for that, ignores that basically everyone at uni had to do philosophical work in Theology. It neglects that he was into what nowadays is called logic and natural science, antiquity studies, literature, philosophy and politics. Think his son was named Astrolabe!
On the other hand music and warfare are missing out. So, all in all, very unlike Mance. But it's been quite a joyful excursion. :)

  6. I am sorry for having busy elsewhere, but now it is time to return to the thread of beginnings!

    Hai, I'm Lord Parker. :3

Welcome @Lord Parker to the forum!

Hi- This is my very first posting. I am still figuring this whole thing out. Love the books, have completely given up on the HBO series. Lots of thoughts and questions... will be posting more soon.

Welcome @Muttwarger to the forum! I am a fellow non-show-watcher. Not that I loathe it or anything, I will watch it some time, later. Until then there is this pile of books to be read...

    Welcome to the forums

    :D

Oh, and you, too, @Moriath, in case I missed out on welcoming you!

I'm new to the forums. Have lots of questions that I'm excited to discuss with you all, hopefully will contribute something. If nothing else a friend sent me this GOT house emoji link today and it is bomb so I'll share. http://www.buzzfeed.com/riaali/game-of-emojis-1squ6

Welcome @TristiferDempley and thanks for the link!

Not an introduction as such, but just noticed today is my ten year board anniversary.  Things have gotten a more crowded around here to be sure.  Get off my lawn!

    Happy 10th forum anniversary, @mcbigski!

Hi everyone. I`m new to this forum, but i love the books and the show. I only discovered them this year really. I started watching the show in January and then read the books in June and July, but now i`m re-reading them. Currently i`m in AFFC, but soon finishing it. (Oh and i got the Knight of Seven Kingdoms for my birthday last month, and love it too.)

Welcome @AdamJ! Maybe in your next re-read you would want to try to read AFfC and ADwD combined? Follow that link in my signature.

Hi everyone ! I'm the new guy , and i'm really excited to be here.I love the show and the books like every each of you , and i hope i'll have great time here ! ^_^

    Welcome @SuicideSheep to the forum!

I am Jenna, a 39-year-old Texan. I'm a huge fan of the show who's slowly discovering the books - I hope to find an interesting, hospitable community here.

Welcome Jenna/@Damiana to the forum! I bet you will.

Longtime lurker, new member—glad to be here. As is probably obvious from the username and registration, I like Roman history and fantasy books (along with Science Fiction and Horror).

Welcome @Pro Augustis to the forum!

Hi there! I'm new here. Was looking for a forum focused on a particular series with conversation spanning other general subjects, and after some lurking I like the look of this one! I'm a big fan of the books but haven't engaged too closely with the series (mainly for fear of spoilers!).

    Welcome @InherentlyObvious to the forum!

Oh dear, I've been here for over two years but I've never formally introduced myself :o Hi guys, I'm FOMN. You can call me Mr. FOMN if you so desire.

Welcome @First of My Name to the forum! Nice name ;-)

Hello.  I've been lurking around for a little while, finally decided to jump in and start participating in the discussion.  It's been a while since I've been a part of a forum, so I'm looking forward to getting back into it.  I'm a fan of the books and the show, and many other things besides, which will hopefully become apparent in the conversations ahead.  So yeah, excited to start talking to everyone.

    Welcome @BrettG to the forum!

Glad to be here. Voracious reader of fantasy and fiction books. Just finished Nemesis Games and currently underway through the 2nd book of Tales from Ketty Jay series.

I'll incur the wrath of the dragons by admitting that I'm not a big fan of asoiaf. I've read all the books years before the TV series started and though good, not exactly my type. If and when the next book comes, I've not decided on whether I'd read it or not. Probably will.

The Literature forum comes highly recommended by @TheRevanchist (EAP here) and I hope to have great discussions there.

Welcome @Eric Cartman to the forum! It is rather strange to see you write you like other books much better but still join us here. It is so much in contrast to posters like I who go into literary exegesis of Martin's texts pretty religiously. Nevertheless you've made it. Want to criticise GRRM's writing? I'd really like to read that, maybe I need my mind to be set right. I haven't read what you name, so maybe I should take a peek into that, too.

    Hello, all before me.

Welcome, all who are after me.

    Welcome @VadersKeeper to the forum!

  7. OMG that's what happens in a week on holiday....

Welcome @Lord Sidious, are there any surviving Strong family members out there? How will they be appointed king? Ser Robert ain't very talkative, last time I was listening and he is not a real Strong, now is he?

Welcome @Little Bird Sansa, when I read his books, there still weren't any Tolkien movies, meaning mine was no particular accomplishment at the time :) ... Yes, I like Game and Swords best among the 5 main series' books. Game is the most dense and poetic, it is packed. Swords is also very dynamic. Feast and Dance should be read the way noted in my signature, for the richest effect.

Welcome @cybervoodoo, have fun and keep reading, it is a very joyful journey!

    Welcome @Turumarth,

I think the biggest thing that surprises me on these forums is seeing which characters some other fans admire and/or dislike. It makes me realise that some other fans have profoundly different values than I do.

Of course all of them were written by the same genius author. Even with Victarion you can admire his fearlessness and revel in an utter and complete immersion in stupidity. :-)

Bienvenue @Le Papillon, let's face the long watch and wait together.

Welcome @A-Faceless-Woman, yes, there are lots of things other readers noticed that are worth a second (or third or fourth etc.) read :)

Welcome @IceIceBaby, let the Winds of Winter chill you through :)
