  1. I liked it except for Daemon killing his wife and the wedding murder. I don't even mind that a Kingsguard straight up beat someone to death, but not in the middle of a wedding where everyone could see. That strains credulity.
  2. I liked it except for the final battle. Everyone already said the same thing, it just seems unbelievable.
  3. Oh dear it sounds dire, but I know I'm going to read it anyway!
  4. I never liked the Wax and Wayne covers, but I like the series.
  5. I heard Kickstarter went down five times because of all the traffic from Sanderson. BTW, he already had a previous Kickstarter in 2021 that made $6.7 million.
  6. Sure, send me a free ebook copy. PM me, please. I should be able to review on goodreads and amazon when I'm done, but I already have four other books to review, lol. I'll put yours in the pile, okay?
  7. Yes, but he needs to publish first, then give it away for free if he wants to. The other way around won't work since it will raise copyright issues. Edit: Free review copies are fine, but not published here in a public forum where the Amazon/google/etc. bots can crawl it.
  8. No. If you do that, the Amazon bot will pick it up and you'll have problems publishing on KDP since it's already been published online for free. I did the same thing and got an email from KDP content review team: Then you will need to spend days going back and forth with what is probably another bot until you finally get through to a real human.
  9. It's very important! Discoverability will be greatly affected if you were to, for example, accidentally put a romance book in the nonfiction-history category. Look at similar books and check what categories they are under. The important thing is to be as specific as possible since it's easier to rank higher in search the more niche your category is. Do not, under any circumstances, chose something like "Fiction - General." For example: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Horror-Year-Ellen-Datlow-ebook/dp/B08JH56KVR/ This book is under Horror Anthologies (Kindle Store) Science Fiction Short Stories Horror Anthologies (Books) You can also use https://www.bklnk.com/categories5.php to check a book's categories.
  10. They already have a cover, it's on their sig.
  11. Nah, just put everyone's names on the cover! I mean, like this https://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Pale-Anthology-Jim-Butcher/dp/0989448738
  12. No idea about "problems" (you mean like legal problems?) but that would be confusing for the reader. Whichever author name/s will be listed on Amazon should be what's on the cover. Otherwise, people will hesitate to buy since the cover author name and listed author name are different. It would look like someone accidentally uploaded the wrong book! On the back matter there is an "About ____" page where you can include a line saying "_____ (pen name), whose real name is _____, lives in Nebraska with his two dogs, three cats, and one parakeert." if you want to put your real name.
  13. Don't worry! The days of difficult self-publishing are totally over! I just used a simple LibreOffice document with Kindle Create. All you have to do is this - https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/GYVL2CASGU9ACFVU
  14. Thank you! *nods* One hour of productive/creative work is better than ten hours of writer's block!
  15. The native dictation app on Iphone and windows seems okay. I've been using those.
  16. I have been writing but I hurt my right arm so I've been looking into dictation software. Any recs?
  17. For those with unpublished manuscripts, there's an interesting contest that you only need to submit 1,250 words for. Feb 21 deadline. https://www.firstpagesprize.com/ The 2021 Prize will support FIVE emerging writers with cash awards totalling US $5,000 and developmental editing. Top 3 winners receive an agent consultation. I am not affiliated with them in any way.
  18. Let me know if it works out for you. I might join when I finish my novel.
  19. Hiya, the Supervillainy Saga link on your sig doesn't work.
  20. This is the only one I know of that does good critique but I've never used it myself. http://www.critters.org/c/about.ht
  21. Oh wow, I just read the announcement that the release of the Log Horizon Season 3 anime has been delayed. 2020 just keeps on giving! I guess I'll have to wait for 2021.
  22. The first episode of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon just dropped. It was good. I do have a problem with this sequel series to Inuyasha because it's something completely original - no source manga exists for it so the script writer is basically inventing things wholesale now. I'm afraid the powers-that-be have declared Yashahime to be "canon" but I will grudgingly consider it "anime canon" at best. Manga > Anime (in terms of canon) See, that's the problem... Sesshoumaru doesn't even have a girlfriend in the original source but here he has half-human children. One wonders who the mother could possibly be... Canonicity aside, I did enjoy Yashahime. It's only one episode but it was fun.
  23. It's a real pity about Ko Un. He has a large body of work that would normally make him a contender for the Nobel but, alas, there are tons of proof that he is a habitual molester. I'm glad he has been exposed.
