  1. Thanks for posting those @Sophelia and for your support. Another place that might merit a donation is Mermaids UK, an organization that specifically supports trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming young people. https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/
  2. Oh yeah! That was definitely quality. Thank you for reminding me of that.
  3. Can you put it in spoilers or DM me? I totally can't remember this and I love a good dad joke.
  4. yeah. I've been holding off even talking about the ruling because it's so painful and barbaric and traumatizing. Love you @karaddin I know this week has been brutal.
  5. the last paragraph of Elliot Page's letter made me cry in the best way.
  6. Unfortunately, that kind of experience is not rare for queer people pretty much everywhere. The Deep South does not have the market cornered on bigotry.
  7. that's such a Huge Mood: the people that knew you From Before.
  8. I'm so sorry that someone broke your trust like that and that you now have to deal with it. It's total bullshit. I know this is advice column woo, but could you write him an email saying that you're OK and that you're coming to terms with being outed without your consent?
  9. @lady narcissa hahahaha that makes some sense re: birds being somewhere in the writer's background. I actually really like the birding elements, but it made me laugh when I started this third book and four of the prominent characters are twitchers. (I'm not a twitcher -- I don't chase rarities because that whole scene is just really irritating -- but some of my friends are.)
  10. Are there any Ann Cleeves books that don't involve birdwatching? I just finished book three and the whole damn thing is about birding . The first one was about bird habitat and the second one had a lot of birds in it. (I'm not complaining, mind. it's just not what I expected given my day job and my primary hobby)
  11. Finished the first and second Vera Stanhope books. I had a really hard time with the first one because LOL I work in bird conservation and the whole thing brought up way too much work-related anxiety. Second one was good though, so I'm looking forward to continuing that series. I also read the first two St. Cyr books, which I really enjoyed but they really lean on the tropes so I'll need to space those out. Just started the second Amelia Peabody book and these books are gems. I'll be looking into the other series by Peters as well, as @lady narcissa mentioned how fun they were too.
  12. I am heartbroken. Monica Roberts aka TransGriot has passed. Monica is the reason why ANYONE outside of the trans community pays attention to the murder of transgender people in the U.S. Rest in Power Monica. https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-monica-roberts-mission-to-identify-transgender-murder-victims
  13. I have some ideas but I'm not going to post them because who knows what kinds of keyword searches are dragging the internet for such things and I'm not doing some homophobic conservative shitbag's work for them.
  14. Totally overwrought happy gay trans teenager cry. So, good cry but also somewhat embarrassing (because I am ancient) but also bittersweet because I was crying for all of the overwrought gay trans teenagers who struggled, and so many of them never got the chance to shine.
  15. And now for something positive: Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas is an absolute joy. It has queer characters and trans characters that are nuanced and joyful and more than just their trauma. It digs into blood families and found families and the joys (and challenges) in both. I'm only about halfway through but I bet I'm going to cry at the end.
  16. I'm starting a new round of therapy today (last time was back in 2017) and my new therapist also uses gender neutral pronouns! I cannot express how much of a relief it is to not have to worry about that aspect of my life during therapy. My last therapist was totally fine, but I definitely got the sense that she didn't know what to do with my gender identity/presentation and that made things a little challenging. Anyway, it's Friday so I'm sending all of my to my fellow queers, and especially to my fellow trans peeps. I feel like we have A Week every goddamned week these days.
  17. Just here to report that I'm about 1/3 of the way through the first Amelia Peabody book and am enjoying it immensely. Thank you again, everyone, for the ideas and support. As the nights become longer and the weather starts turning, I am very grateful for the reading material distraction.
