  1. one thing that would really help with childcare is not to make the childcare providers do so much paperwork and tests for each child they look after each day. Yes some general ones a few times a year to record if the child is developing but there is a limit to what is reasonable. My Mum used to work in a nursery, one staff member in each room was constantly always stuck doing the developmental task/activities instead of actually being able to look after the kids. Can this child count to 5, can this child know each of these colours / shapes, stand up, sit down, jump, hop, tie shoelaces ect. each time you would run an activity as a group you need to do it several times since some kids only come mornings or afternoon and not every day. and sometimes the kid is just being uncooperative. This was the main reason Mum gave up work, and that was over 30 years ago. I have a cousin who was a childminder 5 years ago. they had to to all those tests (a lot easier when its just a couple of kids) plus record the activities they did each day, if they went to the toilet including if it was a poo or just a wee. what they ate and when, if they slept for how long and the time. and then had to do some educational activities each day and record them. She would spend 8 hours a day looking after the kids then several hours in the evening and some weekend time doing the paperwork - that bit is unpaid time. This excess has to make it much harder for people to want to look after other peoples children and in turn reduces the amount of childcare places available. The government can promise to pay for 100 hours a week if it wanted, but that won't change the amount of placements available if people don't want to work in childcare.
  2. I doubthe will be writing anything for TV or film while its going on, but I'm bot sure he was doing much of that anyway. Writing for books which I think you really where asking about has nothing to do with the WGA so will be uneffected or possibly allow more time to write those if his commitments elsewhere are now less.
  3. Was it not Sullea who alleagedly asked if any future speeding ticket fines can be put on expenses when she firt became an MP?
  4. Do we have Trus's honours list yet? Is she gonna give Boris a knighthood so we are never rid of him.?
  5. I was sure Diana had a security detail..... Ok it was no longer the royal security detail and paid privately. Also Diana wasn't just hounded and chased once. that had been going on for a months (actually years - but he really intense bit was after she started dating Dodi) It built up and gor more and more extrme and intense. He can see the same thing happenening again. it would be fightening to anyone who saw that happen to his mother then start again with his wife... even if this incedence is mild by comparasion.
  6. If ever we need someone to go out there and impregnate the rest of the gallaxy Boris is a far "better" person than Kirk or Riker.
  7. Happy parents are best for kids. Preferably Happy parents in the same household than happy separated parents. Happy separated parents are far far better than unhappy parents who are still together. Unhappy people forced to spend time together become toxic to each other. Many couples try to hang on far too long for the sake of the kids and when they finally do separate its far worse as the parents are actively fighting each other and the kids often become part of the battle. More should be done to help people separate while still being able to respect each other, and not actively dislike or hate each other. as an aside - a lot of people have kids before they are in stable long term relationship. which increases the risk of the relationship not working out in the long term. Also TV and Movies often suggest people can go from hating each other to being madly in love and getting engaged all within a month and then live happily ever after. Unfortunately some people seem to believe this is realistic and get married far too soon, before they have really seen what their partner is like in a bad mood. Not sure what can or should be done about that though.
  8. trouble is the list of stuff to reverse is getting longer and longer. They may be able amend them so the problematic parts are no longer there (far quicker). By all means be sceptical about his intentions, but when the time comes actually judge him by the results. you might be presently surprised he ends up being not as bad as you think he will be. He is never going to be your ideal leader.
  9. It normally takes a lot longer to complete repeal a law/act of parliament than it takes to amend it. If labour spent all their time revoking all the Laws the Tories introduced instead of amending the problematic parts of them then there would a a lot less time to actually do stuff like get more nurses / GP's and Green energy.
  10. As a woman I can tell you there is a differance between saying someone looks Hot to saying someone looks really nice in that outfit. One is sexulising how they look, the other is a general comment. If you are unsure of the differance just think a bit about saying a seven year old girl looks hot. Now one comment on someones hotness in a particular occasion is IMO not a problem espeically when in situations where we are supposed to notice their hotness (and not as much how well dressed they are) eg Steve Rogers grabbing that Helecopter in Civil War. Penny was just doing her job and yes totally wants people (I assume) to think she looks nice, but she may not want people learing at her. Again if its just one comment its not really a problem, if more people make comments or comments are regularly made about other people as well it can get problematic as it changes the culture and can make people uncomfortable. I don't belive the line was crossed this time, but you where heading in that direction. it is something to be aware of, and perhaps consider not sexulising people when paying them a complitment (then you will be in no dager of crossing the line) I have been around a group of men who happened on some photos on a company website with lots of women on it, and the conversation then was all about which ones where hot and which one not. there was no - "I'd bang that" phrases. I can tell you it did make me very uncomfortable.
  11. so how long before they try once more to Bring back Boris?
  12. I live in Billericay a town not a village but that is more accurate than you know. Billericay is one of the Posh bits of Essex and thus will never vote Labour. the council is Basildon (totally not posh and home of the Essex girl jokes) who would very much love to have Boris back or would be delighted to vote for JRM and think Farage is a saint. The 2 Billericay wards Tory councillors got less of the vote share this time round, still over 50% of the total votes though, but hey at least the voting swung in the right direction for my ward.
  13. I live in such a Tory area they gained a seat here! lolsob
  14. because they are local elections and they are staggerd. terms last 4 years. (also not every seat will be up for election in the same council at the same time). this time its mostly the Rural seats and the north. London I think mostly voted last year and didn't get to vote this time.
  15. I have voted. What I will say despite there being no-one else in the queue so just me it took twice as long to be given my voting slip as previously. this is due to them carefully checking that my name and address on my driving licance matched what I had said and their forms and that I looked like my photo. I imagian that in busy districts this is going to cause long delays. and yes I had my ID in my hand ready and did not have to dig it out of my purse. They also told me when I asked that they are keeping a tally chart of the number of people they turn away due to lack of ID as this is the first time we have needed ID to vote in this district. this will not be happening at the next election. (which might be a more true indication of voting problems as this is just local council elections so probably a low turnout anyway)
  16. whats the betting there is a similar clip of Richie wishing good luck to whoever the Anchor's are playing....
  17. they can and they will. strike ballots only last for 6 months. (rules brought in by Cameron) However their probably is not enough time to re-ballot in time for the 2nd May. the easier solution is to start the strike 1 day earlier. And re-ballot for future strikes. Edit. In fact I'd be tempted to make it a 3 day strike instead of 2 days. teach them a lesson for trying to get the strike cancelled. (although I'm not sure how much notice they have to give when striking)
  18. I just hope that after the locals in May with so many people who tried to vote but could not that this voter ID thing is scrapped. I know it won't be. But one can hope.
  19. I think there is not a heirarcy in general. But there is in acts and behaviour caused/sparked by racism. I hate X group of people is the same bad level no matter who the group is. What I do because I hate X group of people has mulitple levels from feeling a bit off to Murdering.
  20. OMG Dr Who is so Woke! Its got a Female doctor! Don't you know he a timeLORD not timeLady? This is a comment I read many times. Which version of the meaning of Woke is used here?
  21. we will always disagree here. If the purpose of booster was not to stop the spread of infections why do we bother to give boosters to healthy young care workers in care homes? Also less sick people means more people in work being productive and potentially growing the economy. and if we are talking about anecdotal evidence I got Covid last summer for the 1st time 6 months after my 3rd jab. I got very ill and just breathing was hard. My Blood oxygen level dropped, and I have a high fever. at one point I was being monitored every hour for my oxygen level and temperature. I was so borderline in being admitted to hospital and would have been admitted if there was more hospital beds available. I was lucky I did make a full recovery But I have never been so ill in my life. If I hadn't had the booster maybe I would have ended up in Hospital or even died? Yes at this point 6 months from a jab I don't think another booster is realistic. But once a year? or at least once a year after a new targeted vaccine? I don't think this is too much to ask. I don't even care if I have to pay for the booster myself, I do want the option though. I get the flu jab every year and I used to pay for it (since Covid my work pays for the Flu jab) Also long Covid is a thing and every time you get covid there is a chance of Long Covid. But we as a country have never really worried about long term things. Long term are for another government to worry about.
  22. not sure your point. or you missed the fact I was pointing out Under 50's have only had 3 shots and none of the Omicron targeted ones. Yes the most venerable should get more frequent vaccinations than other groups. But perhaps don't completely ignore younger groups. we can still get sick and spread it. We can still get long covid.
