  1. The US is not a good model for how this should work!
  2. What about arresting the mysterious so-and-sos for attempting to access a high security vessel under false identities? That's a lot easier if you let them dock first, and more sensible than just telling people who probably have nefarious plans to go away. It was entirely reasonable for the captain to expect his security forces to be a match for the crew of a much smaller vessel, and if it was a suicide ship, they could have just rammed it without bothering to dock. I don't see the problem.
  3. I'd highly recommend the Scholomance trilogy by the same author (Naomi Novik). Are you aware there are three sequels? You might like books by T. Kingfisher.
  4. I would be very surprised! But it would be nice to see.
  5. Yes, a flash forward to the end of episode 2 of Ahsoka.
  6. Why not start posting? And send invites to people you know from Twitter etc to join you there?
  7. It's my default, but it's not great. I frequently try Google after DDG doesn't work, and sometimes get better results.

It would be nice to have "trans identities are valid" or equivalent explicitly added to that list of things not subject to debate.
  9. I'm still happy with Mastodon, and it's the only one that isn't trying to use you to make money.
  10. Huh. I assumed they were talking about what their dead father would have thought of them...
  11. Not unreasonably expensive. Some of the original files still exist, and re-rendering CGI of that vintage in HD (or even 4K!) could probably be done in realtime with modern hardware. And recreating the missing files would still cost chicken feed compared to modern CGI. Though composite shots might be a problem - if the raw film for those sequences no longer exists, then upscaling the 4:3 SD version is the only option. It's disappointing they haven't re-rendered any of the CGI, but it should still be a big improvement over the DVDs, and 4:3 as originally broadcast is probably a good choice anyway.
  12. Well, it depends on the server to an extent. The boundaries are a lot fuzzier than on reddit, but some servers have very strong local communities.
  13. What would the actual guaranteed job be, though? How is it matched to the abilities of the worker? Do they have any choice in what they do? Forcing people to do pointless makework for 40 hours a week seems pretty cruel.
  14. I found his Doctor Who novel sufficiently unpalatable that I no longer have any interest in trying his other works.
  15. The problem is the very first movie states that the rebels have only just "won their first victory", which pretty much rules out them being an effective force earlier than that.
  16. It would have been more prequelly if they had more aliens. They were going for an OT style.
  17. Absolutely. It's best if you find a smaller server that fits you well, but you can start off anywhere and move once you've gotten used to how it works.
  18. Nothing very exciting. Mostly wasting time on the internet. Good luck with that! I'm sure you'll do a great job.
  19. I'm pretty sure Vadic said she could pass on her abilities to others, so she's recruited beyond the original nine.
  20. @Buckwheat I hope you manage to get at least a few proper days off during the week! Good to hear the teenagers are treating you well, and the hair looks good
  21. It would make a lot of sense; the Moon's internal temperature near the surface is apparently around -30 to -40 degrees C, and I think you'd have to go a loooong way down (dozens of km at least) to get above freezing, which seems like a good fit for Drearburh. While Pluto's crust is made of frozen nitrogen on top of frozen water below -200 degrees C - good luck drilling a habitable shaft in that! It's only the view of Dominicus that doesn't fit, and a transparent dome at the top of the shaft would be very reasonable - I'm not sure what sort of curvature or refractive index it would need, though.
