It used to be more widespread - I know of other forums that had the same policy in the past. On some forums the moderator who closed a thread for length would create the next installment at the same time.

That's displaying correctly now!

Calling it "hostile" is going overboard, but there is a psychological barrier to starting a new thread compared to replying to an existing one, which can result in conversations getting cut off prematurely. And not being able to reply to posts from earlier installments can be a nuisance. My understanding is that the rule was originally due to software limitations that no longer apply, so maybe it is worth reconsidering whether or not it still makes sense? I'm currently seeing (or rather, failing to see) the active page number in white on a white background.

I managed to read at least some of every series, though not every installment, so I feel better about voting in that category this year. I'm intending to finish novelette and graphic story before voting closes; otherwise I've done all the categories I'm likely to do.

Is Invisible Kingdom vol 1 available as a PDF anywhere? I've left it too late to buy a physical copy. Failing that, is there a good summary of what you need to know before reading vol 2 anywhere?

Not something that needs an apology If it can be organised quickly and people aren't fussed about presents potentially arriving late, I don't think it's out of the question. Are you willing to run it? If so, I'd suggest posting an "anyone interested in doing Secret Santa?" thread in Gen Chat (even if it gets moved to Games, the "moved" notice will still be visible). Otherwise, just put a note in your diary to ask again at the beginning of next October! I think that's meant as an upper limit on what you're allowed to spend, not how much you have to spend.

It wasn't all that bad for me. I had the top ones out with just sedation and local anaesthetic, and the bottom ones a few years later under general anaesthetic. The latter wasn't exactly trivial, but I got to go home a few hours afterwards. Obviously I didn't experience any pain during, and the recovery period was no big deal. I guess there may be variations in how different dentists handle the procedure and how different people respond, but it's not necessarily something you need to be afraid of.

I haven't had any captchas for the last couple of days. Hopefully that's the end of the problem!

I've been getting a lot of Cloudflare captchas trying to access the site recently, which is a bit of a nuisance. Is there anything that can be done about it on the server side?

Yep - total lockdown since Tuesday! My partner was supposed to be going on a holiday today, and that's obviously cancelled. A pity, because they really need a break and they're not capable of taking one without being physically separated from work. Sorry to hear that. I guess we're likely to be getting a lot more atypical weather in the coming years...

Ditto. I'm concerned about staff turnover behind the scenes, particularly the loss of David Gaider, but still keen to see the next installment. I hope they move on to Dragon Age II for remastering next - I love the story and characters, but there's room for improvement with the gameplay and especially with the locations. Yeah, I've been mostly working from home for years, but on the occasions that I do go all the way in to town and back, it is surprisingly exhausting. I don't know how I'd cope if I hard to start commuting every day.

The US editions of the Doctor Who novelisations changed "jelly babies" to "jelly beans". It's a pity they didn't publish The Face of Evil, which would have ended up with the line "They say the Evil One eats beans."

Can we get the thread title changed?
