I finished The Last of Us. It's definitely not as great as the hype

One thing I did find rather strange and did not really appreciate in the last episode was the antagonist's plan:

      Reveal hidden contents

It's not egregious yet, but this show does have a habit of dumbing down antagonists at convenient times. The last episode had at least 6 lot of these moments like:

    1. Waking up Joel before the operation was done
    2. Telling Joel their real plan
    3. Allowing Joel to live
    4. Not exploring any alternatives to scraping Ellie's brain. What if anything goes wrong? They might have killed their one hope of a cure... Seems like you'd have to be careful and first explore alternative options before embarking on such a risky prospect.
    5. Not asking Ellie's consent if it turns out that brain scraping was the only possible option. The way I see it, if Ellie had said yes in the presence of Joel they would have had zero problems with him going berserk. It's one thing to make the choice for an unconscious Ellie who had been tricked into almost losing her life, but Joel would not have gone against her directly if it had been her wish to sacrifice herself on the operating table.
    6. Marlene putting her gun down at the end was also cringe. She must have realized that trust was broken between Joel/Ellie and herself. How could they ever rely on her to respect a bargain after her prior actions towards Ellie. I'm not as vindictive as Joel, but shooting her seemed like the only rational action as soon as she put down that gun.

As to the spoiler, yeah the whole sequence spawned pages of debate in The Last of Us thread.

As to Ellie being the chosen one, I never got that either. I just got that they placed importance on her due to her immunity.

how the f'ck has super mario brothers made $1.16 billion?

I said the same thing. Was at the theater a few weeks ago and it was busy as hell, vast majority were there for this movie.

  3. This season does feel a little dragging.  I think part of the problem is seeing Ted as human and not just the chipper false faced happy guy. He puts on a happy face for everyone to hide the pain he is in. He hates it there and wants to be home with his family.

The Keely tape thing was a bit out of no where and could lead to her and Jaime getting back together. They are a better fit than she and anyone else. Roy was already not working with her and was getting interested with that teacher last season, where did that go btw?  And when he spoke to Keely about the tape instead of just being a friend he showed his jealous side and asked who it was for.  They are not meant for each other.  Keely and Jaime are a good pair.

I could see it wrapping up with Jaime and Keely together. Ted and beard heading back to the US. Then one of two things, either Roy takes over as coach or the boy wonder leaves West Ham and comes back to his home team. I am also assuming the last episode has the Greyhounds beating West Ham, or Manchester.

In any case it was a fun couple of seasons and hopefully it ends well.

  4. Watched Guardians Vol 3 this weekend, pretty good and worth the matinee price. Gives some tear jerker moments for our favorite vermin.  I still think the original is by far the best.

Not so subtle pride moment, when they go to the organic place and their suits and the color of the rainbow. I assume that was a nod to inclusiveness.

It amazes me how much passion pops up whenever someone mentions Jurassic Park on here. No matter what it gets like two pages of comments. I haven't been able to watch the newest one, got a few min into it and was already playing on my phone. Hated the one before that and really didn't like the one before that, the one with the high heeled track star.

  5. Another typical draft for Dallas, took best players at positions of need. Nothing splashy, no big trades.  Been kind of nice not having Jerry do anything dumb to ruin the draft for a while.

The Detroit draft had me puzzled on day 1 but after the draft was completed and had time to review it all it makes more sense.

  6. Watched  The Covenant  this weekend.  Pretty good movie broken into 3 parts. The actors all did pretty good jobs and it showed the shit side of war pretty well.

Forgot to mention how full the place was. Went to get popcorn and there were 40 people in line, that damn Super Mario movie is still killing it!  I actually went to my movie and came back after the previews were done so the line was gone. My theater was about 1/3 to 1/2 full for an afternoon matinee.

You know, I read that part of Belichick's motivation to trade back was to allow the Steelers to pick the OT the Jets wanted, but I didn't realize the Jets had put themselves into that position in the first place.

Here in the Detroit area it was said that Bellichek wanted Gibbs and when Detroit took him they decided to move back. Bill O'Brien was his coach at Alabama and the story being fed is that Gibbs to NE was a sure thing.

Really late to the party but I finally started Barry on HBO. Mostly due to all the praise I see for it on this board. I’m currently four episodes in and I like it well enough to continue at this point.

I watched S1 and ehh. Think I started S2 and just quit it.

Just trying to drive up the hype to get better odds on other QBs, muhahaha.

Seriously though, if he goes first the Panthers are nuts. He's probably not even a first round talent.

Blasphemy! He is 4th on Kipers final rankings! Who the hell is Mel Kipers anyway?

BTW am I the only one who has their social media feed full of clips from Draft Day?  I want my picks back, all of them!!!!

  10. Watched To Catch a Killer  this weekend. New movie with a pretty good cast. Nothing groundbreaking happens in the movie but it's a pretty good movie just the same. It has a current issue at it's core and at times feels a little preachy. The lead, Shailine Woodley's character feels like a cross between Clarice from Silence of the Lambs and Amelia from The Bone Collector.

  11. The season had plenty of weak spots but I think it landed pretty well. I enjoyed the last two episodes quite a bit. Would be nice to see Din Grogu get some training next year with weapons. Get him little blasters and such.

As others said, I don't like that we didn't see Gideon disintegrate but even that wouldn't matter due to cloning. There should literally be tons of beskar armor available now from all of the super troopers

  12. I had the same feeling about the Amorer, when she was flying to take the survivors back I kept expecting her to fly into a battle and know it was happening.  The thing is that some of her crew was killed in this trap including their main warrior with the automatic blaster. IIRC there were also survivors trapped in there, the ones who were well enough to travel so did either of them sacrifice their own people?  It's weird that Bo told her story of surrendering to Gideon and being betrayed to the Armorer and Survivors right before this attack happens.

I tend to agree with this. There is definitely a time and place for prestige drama as well as trash tv. I know if I'm tired or don't have a lot of time I really don't want to sit and think hard by watching a deep and dense drama. Sometimes it is nice to just switch on Dr Pimple Popper and see some zits.

Seeing as Netflix and other platforms have been fighting over who can stream braindead fluff like Friends and Big Bang Theory, its clear that there is a huge market for this stuff, background fluff.

Didn't this also happen on Cable tv, prestige channels switching over to reality tv because it was cheaper and got just as many views?

Same here, except instead of pimple popping I watch Friends and TBBT!!!

Stop. You literally argued that WRs didn't want to play with Lamar.

I did say that, and I am still right. OBJ wasn't talking to Baltimore at all, he was NY Giants and Jets, Dallas etc..  Only after those and other teams either turned him away or made what he considered to be low offers did he then turn to Baltimore. And even then he tried to get NYJ to match the deal.  Doesn't sound like he wanted to go there until they backed up the Brinks truck and way over paid him.

It's kind of wild how cheap some teams are and I think it's fair to use examples like the one I mentioned to show teams don't really care about the product so long as they can maximize the bottom line.

It's more just a fun idea. Idk how many high end players they'd actually need to move to make it happen.

At this point my guess is nothing happens until after the draft, but the OBJ signing should signal that WRs don't have an issue with Lamar.

Yeah no.  He wasn't getting offers any where near this from any other team, at least none that were reported or leaked. Remember how he said he was offered 5 mill for a year from another team? Baltimore is desperate to get the Jackson thing done and overpaid for OBJ. He got 15 fully guaranteed and possibly 3 mill more in incentives so using him for this validation is weak.  It can however help us to see how Jackson handles a true star receiver. Hopefully they draft the best WR in this class and figure their future out because they are an AFC team I like.

  16. I am trying to save Yellowjackets and Succession for a couple of binges so haven't started the new seasons yet. I did start Suits a series that is on Peacock right now. Only a couple episodes in and not sure I will make through a full season or not.

Finished The Night Agent  on Netflix.  It didn't get any better. The lead didn't suddenly develop any charisma. The plot only got worse.

So you bring the President to Camp David while the communication system is down there? They never would have landed there knowing it was down, knowing the VP's daughter was just kidnapped, the Director of the FBI murdered....and we say yeah, sure, the Secret Service would still go ahead and have the President land someplace where they had no communication system working and no explanation of why it was down.

They should have had the female lead be the star, more than she was, because she had a presence onscreen.
