    Second Quarter 2019 Reading

They should be locked up! My physics teacher near as damit put me to sleep, despite physics being my favourite subject. It should be a criminal offence.

I haven't read Shakespeare since school, fifteen years ago...I will of course blame it on my boring English teacher. She even ruined Steinbeck for me for the following five years. Boring teachers are the devil!

    Second Quarter 2019 Reading

Thoroughly enjoyed Jurassic Park. Good, fun, thriller. Obviously, it's difficult not to compare it with the film...Some things were better in the book, some better in the film. Not sure if I'll go straight into TLW. Royal Assassin arrived on Saturday and I'd like to get cracking with that...

I'm not sure yet. I do have TLW with me so I might as well jump right into it... Have you read both?

    Second Quarter 2019 Reading

Finished Assassin's Apprentice last night. Good stuff. Thought the pacing could've been a bit better, maybe; considerable time jumps in the space is a paragraph or two...It wasn't anything drastic or I wouldn't have carried on with it, but I would've liked to have known more about what had happened in those gaps. Loved it, though, and looking forward for my copy of Royal Assassin to arrive. In the meantime, I have started on Jurassic Park. FINALLY getting around to reading it!

    Second Quarter 2019 Reading

Coming into the final stretch of Assassin's Apprentice. Took a little while for it to get going for me, but that could be because it is my first book in seven months and my first fantasy novel in twelve months... I found that a few things happened too quickly, like the Forge scene, but all in all I'm loving it. I think what I've liked best (so far) is Hobb's ability to create believable characters. I've gotten really attached to a few which leads me on to... @HelenaExMachina You were right! I've just finished the Skill training with Galen and it's aftermath (now on the chapter 'Lessons'). Tough to read, you don't often come across depression discussed in fantasy novels, certainly not pertaining to children/YA.

Events you are most looking forward to see in TWOW

So I'll probably regurgitate a lot of what others have said, but here are mine: Lady Stoneheart, Brienne and Jaime Jon's resurrection and how it will change his mentality (surely it must?) Sam and the Citadel Davos going to Skagos Bran's storyline

Boarders Writing a Novel Part 15

Okay so I'm not a published author, and my only attempt at writing was last summer/autumn when I wrote a 10,000 word short story. I think I averaged about what you're averaging. It bugged me because I felt that I wasn't t making any progress, but that was just the writing pace I had. The best outlook to have is to just concentrate on yourself. Writing a thousand words a day would be great, but what's important is to just write. "Get your story down on a piece of paper," is what my brother told me, and to just forget about how long it takes.

Boarders Writing a Novel Part 15

I like that approach. Suppose you could also do it from the perspective of climate and geomorphology? Coastal settlements/cultures/civilisations might have a more defensive outlook due to being raided?
  10. Thank you all. Think it'll be JA. Halliconia trilogy definitely appeals but might be best to reserve it for the quiet months...

    Video Games: Devils Die Twice

Demon's Souls the movie! Or Bloodborne the movie. I think Bloodborne could work very well actually, with the right director and scriptwriter on board.

How have you started reading the aSoIaF books?

Started reading them after S1, but was a year late watching the show. Someone, for some reason, had suggested the show to me after I told them I enjoyed the adaptation of The Name of the Rose. Seven years later and I still don't understand how they came to that suggestion... So I read GOT immediately after watching Season 1, then ACoK in a couple of weeks before Season 2 started, and finished them all within the next month. I'm a slow reader and also tend to get 'fatigued' with the same thing after a while, so I'll need a break from that particular genre I'm reading. I don't know how I did it.
  14. That genuinely comforts me. Still nervous mind. I hope they don't fill it up with cgi like Jackson did with The Hobbit movies, and rather keep the same production values he had with the LotR trilogy.
