  1. As a teacher, my favorite quote is "I teach therefore I drink." The 3 quotes in my signature are also important to me for various reasons: I used to have this Lewis Black quote in my signature, but it stopped being pertinent in 2016: "Our (USA's) two-party system is a bowl of shit looking in the mirror at itself."
  2. About two weeks ago, I binge-watched S1 and loved it. But, when I jumped into S2, it was difficult to adjust to the time jump. Then, some of the writing choices made me put it aside for a while (the large listening device that sat on top of a light fixture for 9 years, the over-the-top melodrama that ensued after Kelly told Ed that she wanted to go to Annapolis). This weekend I decided to just watch it to the end, and I'm glad that I did. In the last 3 episodes, almost every scene delivered a large emotional impact. Yes, the viewers had to sit through a couple ridiculous scenes and the big problems on the moon were resolved a little too quickly and neatly. But, wow, what a ride. For me, it's the best of 2021 so far. I can't wait to see what happens on Mars in S3.
  3. I tried a couple episodes of QI, and Davies just struck me as someone who thought he was 10 times funnier than he really is. Also, I listened to 3~4 episodes of his podcast about Arsenal. For me, they weren't funny or insightful, and back then the timing between episodes was unpredictable. After reading the responses by @polishgenius and @john, maybe it's time to re-evaluate my opinion. I'll try a couple more episodes of QI later in the week.
  4. This latest episode's prize challenge has to be the best prize challenge in TM history. The photocopier challenge provided some fun moments as well. The rest of the episode, including the reveal of the overall series winner, was rather meh. Also, the series 12 contestents were announced. I was happy to see that the ladies outnumber the men this time. But, I was a little disappointed that Alan Davies will be there. I don't know much about him, but he seems like kind of a twat.
  5. All 5 challenges in this week's episode had some fun moments. For me, it overtakes the Jamali-stamps-on-everything episode as best of the season. Also, I was really annoyed that the episode's title wasn't "Backup Rainbow".
  6. I liked this series, but I haven't watched a lot of the other series created by Netflix. What are the typical characteristics of a Netflix series?
  7. I'm also done with the series. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it felt very rushed and as a result somewhat confusing. I had to re-watch several scenes to fully understand the crows' conversations. I haven't leaned on subtitles so heavily since Deadwood. I shouldn't have to do research about small science, merzost, the menagerie, etc. Also, what was the point of the Nina and Matthias storyline? Just to show the culture differences between the Ravkans and the Fjerdans? If so, why was there no cultural info about the Shu Han? @Ran, I'm glad you mentioned that issue with Alina and the Tailor. That frustrated me, too.
  8. The newest episode was probably the best of the series. The tasks were a little livelier and more interesting this time. Also, it seems that Sarah Kendall has built up an insurmountable lead and will be the series winner.
  9. I was again slightly disappointed with the new episode. It was fun and amusing. Yet, it lacked one of those LOL moments that this show usually gives me. Also, the tasks were interesting and creative. Alex Horne really is the low-key hero of this series.
  10. This has been my favorite show for a couple years now. However, I've been disappointed by the current season because of the contestants. Jamali Maddix just doesn't give a shit, and Sarah Kendall and Charlotte Ritchie are not very humorous in this format. As such, I have been rewatching season 7, which is infamous for James Acaster's rant against his team task teammate Rhod Gilbert, as @Plessiez already mentioned, and Phil Wang's moose-knuckled homage to Bruce Lee. Personally, my favorite task is the team task from season 5 (Bob Mortimer, Aisling Bea, Nish Kumar, etc) where they perform a song for and about a stranger named Rosalind. One team wrote her a love song. The other team trolled her and called her a fucking nightmare.
  11. I recently finished Wonder Woman: Dead Earth. Even for a publication from the Black Label, it was more brutal than I expected, especially part 3. That re-imagined Lasso of Truth will be in my nightmares for weeks to come.
  12. Are sea shanties really having a revival, or am I watching too much Stephen Colbert? Regardless, I can't stop listening to one called "Soon May the Wellerman Come".
  13. Just read Future State: Green Lantern. Very enjoyable. I haven't felt that way about a GL series for over 2 years now.
  14. I was always slightly curious about Quibi. They had a few things that interested me -- that series with Sophie Turner, a docu-series about Lebron James's Promise School, another docu-series about USA's youngest mayor, and most recently The Fugitive re-boot with Keifer Sutherland. Did anyone watch any of their shows?
  15. I have now read the first two volumes of The Sandman. It’s an amazing work to read and to look at. I wish it had its own thread. Also, I had assumed that it was in the fantasy genre. I wasn’t expecting such a large amount of horror along with it. I don’t think that I will forget the entirety of “24 Hours” (issue #6) or The Corinthian’s eyes anytime soon. I actually like those crossovers.
  16. The board wisely advised me to stick with the publication order, yet I couldn't resist trying the oddball way. I read the first four items on that chronological list, and they felt pretentious and disconnected. Recently, I tried again, starting with volume 1, Preludes and Nocturnes. Now I see why Sandman is so highly praised.
  17. I'm curious to try Gaiman's Sandman books. Should I just follow the publication order? Or should I try the chronological order? The latter seems interesting but also impractical as one must find 4 different graphic novels in order to read the first 6 items.
  18. These days, Nine Inch Nails' Hurt keeps spinning around in my head. It's hauntingly beautiful.
  19. What happened during Moira’s LIFE SIX? Why is it not on that chart at the end of the issue?
  20. This was my thought process while reading House of X:
  21. I personally found House of X very confusing. I recognized the characters but the characterization and world-building were atypical. I had to find a copy of Age of X-Man Omega to even begin to understand the plot.
  22. I was born and raised in the cow pastures and corn field of central Illinois, USA. However, since I have live here for over 10 years now, I would say that I'm from China.
  23. As far as I know, ASoIaF has little popularity among Chinese people. The HBO series probably wouldn't make it on Chinese tv as removing all the nudity would be an editing nightmare. Also, I have not seen the books in any of the bookstores.
  24. Hello! I have been around here for a long time and thought I should finally introduce myself. I grew up in a podunk town in the middle of the corn fields and cow pastures of central Illinois, USA, but I currently live in Tianjin, China. I have been teaching English as a Second Language at a secondary school since Sept 2009. Over the summer my wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary, and we have an 8 y/o daughter who loves My Little Pony. I was first introduced to asoiaf when my parents gave me Legends 2 as a "stocking suffer" one year for Christmas (They found it at the dollar store.), and I've been a fan of GRRM ever since.
  25. Ok. I changed it. Thank you.
