  1. "To be honest i dont know if thats the reason or not, like i said the main issue is that too many things felt contrived or done purely for shock value (burning shireen, making trant a pedo, brienne turning away JUST as the candle was lit)... i could go on but basically several things have made me cringe" Trent being a pedo mirrors the Mercy Chapter. Burning Shareen was not done for shock value it signaled Stannis's lose of perspective and his final spiral into utter ruin. Brianne turing away goes along with the entire episodes theme of a character making a choice between two alternatives and making arguably the wrong choice. Arya, Brianne, The members of the Knight's Watch, Cersi all decided to make the choice on personal preferences and not their duty.
  2. That's very late in the Middle ages. In the earlier part, the Church and Crown tended to have very overlapping jurisdictions. Indeed the best example you give-- The Teemplers-- is one in which both the French Crown and Catholic Church found the Templers to have committed High Crimes both against the State and the Chhurch.
  3. Actualy by the time of Henry VIII adultery by a queen was in fact legally treason in England. Moreover, there are many examples in British and continental history where it eas deemed treason. Really what was done in any case depended on the paricular facts and the relative power of the parties. For instance in the case of Edward II's wife, since it was known that Edward was gay and that Mortimer confessed to having sex with the Queen prior to Edwards's death a major reason that the Queen was not fully made to pay was that if her aultery was seriously stressed Edward II's paternity and his right to the crown might be questioned. Moreover, the Queen was a French Princess having her beheaded would have been a cause bellie at a time England was not ready for war. Much more, the times where adultery was not deemed treason can be said to be exceptions to the general rule. If the Queen's virtue is held in question the future of the dynasty is put at risk.
  4. Actually I am one of those who think the books are much better, but thinking that some of the overreaction by some of the purists is totally unjustified is no irrational nor impolite. Thought the episode was a 9+, it was damn good and overall quite true to the books. Those who give it qa very low rating would never of liked any adeptation asany adeptation would not of matched what they saw in their minds. Sorry but grow up and learn to appreciate that the show is the best adaptation of any written work that could have been made. It's not perfect and some decisions the show runners made were problematical but overall it's both a great TV show in and of itself and quite faithful to the spirit of th books.
  5. Of course if you have the interest of the realm you want to have an heir especially one who has the legitimazy and support to prevent a civil war. Queen Elizabeth's rule at the end was a bit chaotic and if not for James England would have likely ened in another series of civil wars.
  6. Really? Stannis wins and he is in need of an heir, every noble house is going to being throwing their daughters in front of him. Sure, he is a man that could do anything he sees necessary, so what, nobles are quite ready to sell their daughters (and sons for that matter) for political gain. The daughter could get killed but she might bare the next kin that would be their nephew. Reward would be quite worth the risk. But Hitler did not have a Wizard that had proof he had God's ear.

  8. Just a bit, it was not "a little white lie". It was perjury in a court proceeding that went directly to the offense being discussed. Even today such a "white li" would get your a jail term. In Medevil times lying in a court proceeding especially a religious court could get you a death sentence.
  9. And the book scene is not? Cme on, criticize D&D for bad choices but Drogon showing up at the nick of time is taken directly from the books.
  10. Dude look at the after show clip. They say directly that she dies in the fire and imply strongly that it comes from what Martin told them.
  11. But civility should be a given. Calling out D&D for including something in the show or deleting an important scene is appropriate, calling them "assholes, "Dickhead and Dumbass" is not. "Again, JCRB articulated it better. A lot of people here don't respect GRRM as a writer as well, so there's that." And when you voice your disapproval based on flaws in his works that is appropriate, calling him names (or D&D names) is simply not.
  12. Except of course, the rape attempt is in keeping with the known character of those who attempted it. INdeed Sam sent Gilly to Mole town in the frst place simply on that fear.
  13. Actuallu having an illegitimate Baratheon still beats an incestous son of Lannister.
  14. Gendry roed away from Dragonstone and likely went back to the bottoms in KL, LF would be the kind of guy to keep tabs on Robert's bastards, especially after most were killed in season one.
  15. Nope, that is the point of the touching scene in Epirsoe 4, Shareen is Princess Shareen Baratheon, Stannis would not sacrifice her.
