  1. That's fucking Gregor. That's the Mountain that Rides. That's a man who strikes so much fear Tywin Lannister chooses his life over an entire kingdom. That's a man who crushes shield walls and splits people in half. Took them three tries, but HBO finally got it perfect.

Jaime and Tyrion wasn't bad. No complaints.

Tyrion and Bronn was great. Verbatim from the books is never a bad choice.

Tyrion and Oberyn was also good. That's how you adapt a scene. Cut out unnecessary fluff and stick to the main plot points.

The Arya and the Hound scene with the dying man was good until the beloved beasts of Saltpans showed up. Rorge and Biter was very stupid. They are incredibly dangerous people in the books. Rorge is able to fight evenly with Brienne for a time(I think, been awhile). Biter is perhaps the most terrifying thing in the books. These guys come off not as unrepentant psychopathic savages, but as drunken bandits blindly chasing a bounty.

Also; Arya is on some Wild Bill shit with that draw time. Sheesh

Once again, even when engaging with incredibly spontaneous sex with an older man, who happens to be an experienced killer, Dany is totally in control. Even when admitting mistakes, Dany never falters.

Daario's small talk with Jorah in the hall was some soul-crushing stuff man. "She's in a good mood" Cold Daario, cold.

Second Arya and the Hound scene was good. Would have preferred that discussion on the barely present burns to have taken place in season 1 with a different Stark, but not bad. Their relationship is drifting back into buddy cop territory though.

Great to see Hotpie again. His actor does a very good job and I loved the wolf-bread.

Brienne is far too mean for me in the show. She belittles nearly everyone she meets. She comes off as more of a snarky, bitter person than someone who is still committed to the ideas of chivalry and honor. Really conflicts with my reading(and the general interpretation) of the character.

Jon Snow sucks, again. Not surprising. HBO continues to interpret his character as an immature boy who takes any rebuke with sullen tantrums. Very odd change making him support the sealing of the Wall. I do like how Thorne continues to bring up the fact that Jon is a steward though. With actual time between his return and the battle, it makes sense this would have come up.

Always good to see an Othell Yarwyck shout out.

Sansa scene was great until Robert shows up. Robert seems pretty genuine in his mistake trying to make a moon door. Sansa has a right to be upset but she seemed only the slightly less childish party here. After that it was all decent, would have preferred "Only Cat" but not a big deal.

  2. Mace gave Robert his only defeat of the war, then decided to play it smart with the SE siege. Like I said, they were in no rush to take the castle by force and wanted to see how the war in the Riverlands would play out. So no, it's not complete neutrality but the lack of action to wait, be patient and take calculated risks and maneuvers was pretty close. The siege was effective; most of the time when you have a far superior army, are well supplied and have no immediate need to take the castle you starve the garrison out. Mace scored a flawless victory with his approach there.

Tywin did almost the exact same thing without having to leave Casterly Rock. Plus I'm pretty convinced that even if the Mad King had ordered Mace to storm the castle he still would have waited, because

    1. Mace is the one with the huge army of bannermen loyal to him, not the king, and, as mentioned, is incredibly well provisioned and supplied. Thus he can afford to be patient and if the war turns against the rebellion he can then storm the castle.

    AND

    2. The Lord Oaf of Highgarden simply gives zero fucks.

    :commie: :commie: :commie:

The Mace Tyrell Apologist Movement Will Never Surrender!!

  3. I'm wondering how the show will handle this.

I'm also wondering how the show will deal with TV Bronn telling Tyrion he put Shae on a boat. If there's a Tyrion/Bronn scene in 4x07, I imagine the first thing Tyrion would ask Bronn would be "What the fuck, Bronn?"

This is especially interesting given that the showrunners seem to want to keep Bronn on in Ser Illyn's role.

  4. Exactly. I will not suffer this blasphemies here. This not King's Landing. And Mace is a fooking legend, and y'all know it. The Hand Throne will be the highlight of the entire show, you'll see

Also, someone on FB just said that he was waiting for the Soup Nazi to declare against Tyrion too, and I can't stop laughing about it

    "You want bread Flea Bottom?"

    "Yes"

    "No provisions for you!"

  5. It was doing well until the Redwyne fleet was outwitted by a smuggler from Flea Bottom.

As is often said in the books; any success House Tyrell had in RR was because of Randyll Tarly.

Randyll Tarly held all of the Reach from true pitched combat? Randyll Tarly assured that no matter who won the throne, House Tyrell and its vassals wouldn't be at risk?

  6. Hizdahr wasn't a character I had thought much about in the context of the adaptation, but logically, he should be one that can be translated very well.

He's a character who has some good lines. And, from text alone, doesn't come across as antagonistic. We as readers find the Meereenese so duplicitous by nature all his decent words and culture doesn't register.

Think of it like a head coach who needs to win a playoff series to keep his job. Only difference is when you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die, not get fired and then have to sign with Golden State...

Stannis in the Bay Area. Now theres a thought...

  7. Just saw it, better late than never. Everything was aces, especially the trial, but I just have to let it of my chest...

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT YARA SCENE! YOU THROW AXES FOR A LIVING, YOU'VE GOT A KID WHO'S AN AXE, AND THAT FUCKING RAMSEY IS STANDING THERE AND YOU FUCKING RUN AWAY LIKE FUCKING SWIPER FROM DORA THE EXPLORER! NO ONE UNDERSTANDS!

Uff...that felt so good. Anyway, was that trial awesome or what?

I died a little, no lie.

  8. Name: Stannis Baratheon,

    Age: 42;

    Occupation: King of Westeros

Credit Score: 666 (but Rising): All things considered it was not a bad scene. The Iron Bank was as single-minded as, I guess, we all would hope responsible banks WOULD be. They laid out facts, not emotion and stuck Stannis where he lives: his small army, smaller holdings and 0-1 Battle Record since Robert was slain. And Davos’ impassioned response was excellent; well done…

.. .and I couldn't help but notice not delivered by Stannis. Look, I GET IT, they don’t like Stannis- D&D have ruined the character and made it so he’ll likely liberate the Wall just as MAnce decides to take the Black and dedicate himself to World Peace. But… would have killed D&D to have … you know… STANNIS say something convincing? Have him say what he is? Maybe get him to …. Do something? The annexation of all of Stannis’ wit (Stannis Ultra-Dry), the loss of his realization, growth and decency; the removal of his leadership etc- it knows no bounds. Now, in scenes that were not even IN the books, Stannis can’t be Stannis. Now DAVOS has to be Stannis.

This would have been a perfect time to break out a modified version of Stannis' boast from tWoW.

Reinforcing the militancy of Stannis, in a military sense, helps to balance out the militancy of him in a religious sense. Even if it doesn't make him likeable, it makes him competent.

Stannis' spartan ways and quick action needs to provide a contrast of the decadence of Dany in Meereen and the insanity of Cersei in KL.
