Red Flags: Dany = Meereen Nobles

As you argue we would be just the same if it benefited us. We, I presume, are Westerners. We live in a very wealthy society but how many people live in poverty? We let that happen as a society. Sure, we give to charity and speak out about it but as a culture we don't really do as much as we can. Aliens turn up tomorrow and they see that contrast in our world, we'd be monsters. Daenerys is an outside perspective on their normal.

The show deliberately blurred this though with the slave who wanted to be sold back into slavery because the family he lived with treated him better than the slaves who terrorised him. If she was executing them for these myriad suspected crimes then she should have held trials. Its not enough to assign guilt without proof. That is like saying 'he looks a bit murdery'. If Daenerys wanted to kill slavers for being slavers she should have killed the whole slaving class. She didn't, she offered amnesty to bring stability to Meereen. You can't do that and always keep perceived crimes in your back pocket to excuse all future actions. That is just bad leadership. You aren't true to your word, why should anyone be loyal to you if you can turn on them at any minute?

They do have him mention it to Brienne and they allude to it in the beetle speech, the word for cousin killing. He knows what he did was awful.

Did the writers confirm Jon’s ending?

Even in Lord of the Rings. Frodo is Frodo. He took the burden. His friends had good lives, got married, had families. Even Legolas and Gimli found companionship. Frodo and Bilbo bear the bitter and even then we feel they find peace. In this ending, most of the characters are in some way a Frodo and I can't help but feel that is too much.

And that slaves inside Meereen were assisting for payment. Daenerys is so black and white. Masters must be evil, slaves must be good. The slave is taking the money and killing unsullied and informing the enemy. Hizdahr is the one who gets terrorised and then killed. We don't care because we know the leaders of these great families are slavers. But imagine the leaders of the great families of westeros in that position. Dany would treat them no different.

She could have had him imprisoned and shipped back to Illyrio in Pentos but she didn't, she let him die because he stood between her, her child and power. Then Drogo has that speech about terrorising Westeros and taking the throne and she is visibly turned on by his brutality. Its not coincidence she gives her own version of that speech to the Dothraki and repeats it after the sack of Kings Landing. Drogo would be proud and he was a monster

    Arya the Explorer

She has nowhere else to go at that point in the story. It doesn't change that she just wants to go home but can't. She needs to find somewhere to be and all she has is this iron coin.

Did the writers confirm Jon’s ending?

I think its a depressing ending for most. 'None of it means anything if you're not with me'. That is the key line I took from season 8. Everyone is alone, scattered across the world from the people they love. The crown Sansa has, means nothing because it was meant to be about her family and she doesn't have one anymore. Arya on that boat, seems nice to travel but you are essentially on your own with hired staff, can you really be that happy never to see the people you love ever again? Bran is king but he doesn't even have a sense of self never mind family. Tyrion has lost all his family. Its grim and I'm not sure they intended for it to be as grim as it is. Superficially, that ending montage is a big fuck yeah moment but you think about it and the tone is just way off.

Dany the Mad Queen was a terrible idea

I think its more that history repeats itself especially for those who don't want to learn about the past. We saw this with Dany becoming Aerys, Jon becoming Jaime, Arya and Gendry becoming Lyanna and Robert, the Field of Fire, the second Long Night, Brienne becoming Duncan the Tall and probably more I'm forgetting

What were Daenerys's plans for Jon in the long term?

Its the same as 'So be with me. Be my wife. Be the Lady of Storm's End'. She is asking him to do something against his nature. She has made it clear that building this new world will be more of the destruction of Kings Landing. Its a crusade of death, wiping the slate clean

    Jon and Val

His love for his sister. He's in turmoil. He torments himself thinking about Ramsey in bed with her and how he hopes she will stab him but it could get her killed. He sends Mance into Winterfell to get her out. All the time not knowing its not really his sister. That is the reason Alys exists in the books, to have an ever present reminder of Arya to Jon and what he thinks she is enduring. All leading up to the moment he decides to march on Winterfell and gets 'For the Watch-d'

    Jon and Val

Isn't choosing love over duty why he got stabbed in the books?

    Tyrion and Sansa...

That is fan run though isn't it? Its only going by what we see in the show. We think Alys died but we dont know further
  14. I am part of the 'First Men interbred with COTF' faction. At least the most senior of them did. That is how magic entered the First Men bloodline and it will mirror whatever we find out Valyria did with dragon blood. There are stories in the supplementary material that suggest weird interbreeding across the known world. Most notably: I think this is an older story co-opted into the new Andal culture. Like how the story of Serwyn of the Mirror Shield from the Age of Heroes is sung about as a knight of the kingsguard. There is also the history and lore of House Reed on the show DVD: And how Bran thinks Leaf is uncannily like his sister When magic was at its height in Westeros, weird stuff was happening.

    Tyrion and Sansa...

I would think Sansa's priority would be to marry one of Arnolf Karstark's grandsons. If they exist in the TV show to secure the male Stark line and prevent any strife about legitimate lineage and her being a woman

    Independent North

I don't think so. The Wall being Hadrian's Wall would put Scotland beyond it and the North being Northern England. Supported by the casting of Sean Bean and his strong Northern English accent
  17. The Arryns and Martells are Andal houses, the later mixed with Rhoynar since Nymeria. Not as ancient as the houses of the First Men. The Martells are still feuding with the First Men Yronwoods and House Royce seems to be sitting pretty in the Vale. Yohn has Robin on a leash.

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

The North recognised Robb. Sansa recognised Robb. When you secede you cease to give a shit about what other people say. I'd argue Sansa consolidated what Robb started.

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

The Dornish never knelt to Aegon, they married into House Targaryen and so kept their titles. 'Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken'

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

Yes the position of King in the North does vanish when you acknowledge a Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. That is the reason Ned wasn't King. Torrhen knelt. She made him Warden of the North, a military position. Sansa has been acting as Lady Paramount all season, co-coordinating the Northern houses. Ned Umber answered to her first, not Jon or Dany. If she were merely Lady of Winterfell he would not have to answer to her at all.
  21. AryaNymeriaVisenya

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

Jon hasn't been King in the North since he bent the knee to Daenerys. He is imprisoned and was complicit in her attack on King's Landing before it got out of his control. I don't think Tyrion got a vote, he made the suggestion. Sam was the first to vote on the suggestion
  22. AryaNymeriaVisenya

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

Why can she never see Jon again? Why does she tell the Hound she doesn't intend to go back North? The writers are telling you something. If Arya never intends to go back to Winterfell how will she see Sansa again?

    A season of Jons betrayal

I actually thought the show did. I don't think it was a coincidence that in The Bells when Dany snaps is when Arya goes in the opposite direction as symbolised by the white horse. Dany succumbs to vengeance, Arya emerges from it
  24. AryaNymeriaVisenya

    Independent North

Its not an inherited title. Next they could be ruled by a Lannister or a Hightower. What gets me is why the other 6 Kingdoms that follow the 7 would be OK with the Greenseer of the Old Gods being King. How is that coronation going to go. The faith must be absolutely decimated in the books for this to happen
  25. AryaNymeriaVisenya

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

That is because it was meant to be about Arya getting her humanity back by being with the people she loved. A journey culminating in her giving up vengeance. But then she gave up everyone she loved forever and got on a boat never to return. So what exactly was the point?
