The Book of The Kingsguard - Help Me Decide

Its about story and about how story can be manipulated. The history Ebrose writes doesn't include Tyrion, one of our main characters. Who were his sources? It doesn't seem like anyone will ever know that Olenna Tyrell killed Joffrey. Brienne's writing shows that she knew the core of Jaime that he denied. He recounts his sins and truly believes he is too far gone. She knows better and her twisting of events shows the character she knew he had. Bran is the only objective observer of history because he can see it himself rather than having it twisted.
  2. No. The door closing was the door closed. He was only going to stay in Castle Black for Arya but she cast aside everyone so there is nothing for him to stay for

So once again...the writers forgot about Gendry

He becomes his father. One of the few pleasant characters in the series done dirty. They dumbed him down the last 2 seasons, broke his heart to bits and gave him a castle he didn't want surrounded by high borns he hates. They had Tormund call him stupid. TORMUND! His second major scene in the entire show had these lines 'Do you think I'm as stupid as the rest of them?' and teasing Arya about being 'Milady' So what do they do, make him stupider than a bear fucker and have him ask Arya to be a lady.

In the end, the Azor Ahai prophecy did come true on 'Game of Thrones'

Looking for the clues to make the prophecy real is exactly what our characters try to do making them self fulfilling.

Daenerys should have supported Jon’s claim

She didn't continue to recognise Viserys. As shown by the molten gold she didn't stop getting put over his head. Even before that she threatened to have his hands cut off. When you say 'I was born to rule the seven kingdoms' it means that you were born to do just that. But she wasn't. That was Viserys' birthright. The same way in the books Ned thinks that he was never meant to have this life, it was meant to be Brandon's. Dany is exactly the opposite. By season 7 Viserys was never meant to be King in her eyes. It was always her right, her destiny the whole time.

To be honest I'd never thought about were she would end up besides 'home'. That she would be home with her family or a pack of some kind (and not some nameless hired sailors she is commanding, people she has actual connections to). I was quite open to her ending. I always did like the idea that she and Sansa would switch world views but that seemed to not follow through. The ending however just didn't resonate with the core of who Arya was to me. Arya Stark would NEVER voluntarily never see Jon Snow ever again. Her frolicking in the forest. I buy that. Like Nymeria. If she had her own 'brotherhood' of characters we know like Hot Pie. That would feel right. She gathers people to her.

Why Did the Show Turn on Jon?

Arya kills Greyworm. The Unsullied in the city kill the council before the Northerners outside get instructions.

Daenerys should have supported Jon’s claim

She did not stand aside for Viserys. From her POV he'd been the 'rightful king' since before she was born. No one asked her for an opinion. Evidence for my statement she is ambitious and not going to stand aside. 'I was born to rule the 7 kingdoms'. She wasn't, she had a brother. She has erased him from the story. This is her birthright apparently.

Daenerys should have supported Jon’s claim

Why are we erasing Daenerys' ambition? She wanted the throne. She wanted to be Queen. She's not Jon Snow, standing aside isn't her nature and hasn't been since she watched Viserys get his golden crown. What exactly was Jon going to avenge? The war started because of what Aerys did to Rickard and Brandon. The only thing to avenge is the children and Tywin is long dead.

Why Did the Show Turn on Jon?

They gave the Night King kill to Arya to parallel Jon. That is the entire reason the Night King exists in the show, to be an opposite to Daenerys. Ice King/Fire Queen. Arya Stark stabs ice in the heart, Aegon Targaryen stabs fire in the heart. However I thought it was stunning they tried to have him rationalise Dany's actions. Not even Ned was that stupid. Ned's backbone was shown in Tyrion and not Jon. Jon could not be King because the council must elect a King to determine the fate of himself and Tyrion. Greyworm would never allow it. Its easier to choose someone else than start more bloodshed.

No one really cares about KL massacre

Arya saw the plight of the smallfolk in the Riverlands during the war of the 5 kings. She saw starvation, murder and rape of people no one gave a damn about. And that still exists as we saw the laughing of the Lords when they compared them to horses and dogs. Arya doesn't use her power and privilege to speak for them?

Her skipping out on Sansa and Jon is not only a refusal of duty its downright selfish. House Stark is dead if something happens to Sansa. Of all people, Arya Stark was the one that could not defy the convention of her role and instead bailed on it entirely. Sansa is doing something no other woman has ever done, so is Brienne. Arya just does an Elissa Farman? She doesn't change anything. She accepts the roles as presented. Says she doesn't want them and disappears off the edge of the world. She is reduced to the soundbyte of an 11 year old.

The way you talk about it actually reminds me of Sansa more and how she ends up on the show. She's the real alpha now and Jon has had to go North for that to happen. With Jon gone she is free to rule and she does so alone.

I thought it would have shocked Arya into doing something in the long term but no. She runs away.
  16. Its funny how people feel duped because it wasn't obvious. Come on folks it wasn't meant to be. You were meant to question power. It doesnt matter if her first city was Yunkai or Kings Landing, the point is, it could have been either

Entirely possible. But what does that say about Arya? Arya who hates status?

Cley Cerwyn would seem to be the obvious choice for her. But really she needs a second son

Its always about family. I suspect the whole thing about not being mounted is about Arya's own sexuality, she hasn't bled yet
  20. I think it makes you question your limits. Her murder of Miri was very grey considering what Drogo did. If Miri should have been killed for her actions then surely Dany should be killed for killing all those people she thought were evil? Why is Dany justified but Miri not? Dany watched her own brother killed when Jorah told her to look away. Again, that was grey. He was her only family. He made huge sacrifices to keep them both alive. He was also abusive. He sold her to Drogo but that is no different that Rickard selling Lyanna to Robert. Women are objects in their world. Then you have the crucified slave masters, at random. No hesitation to get the real culprits, no trials, just random retribution. Then there is the concept of a slavemaster and whether owning slaves is enough to make you a monster. We see a slave who wanted to go back to the family that owned him before. If you live in a world where this is the norm and has been the norm for thousands of years that is your normal. Its very easy to be an outsider and make judgement. That master she fed to her dragons to scare other masters turned out to be innocent. She did not care. She watched. Think of Hizdahr, this woman has his dad murdered, threatens to have him eaten by monsters and then forces him to marry her. These are very grey areas that we reduce to black and white and in the end so does Daenerys. In the final scene she is fetishising Aegon's 'enemies' and thinks of so many killed with delight. We know Aegon's 'enemies' did nothing to Aegon but get in between him and his dream of a united 7 kingdoms. Daenerys' 'enemies' are the same, anyone who contradicts her worldview for she is right in all things.

It also makes it an odd comparison to Nymeria. Nymeria the wolf is not alone and she is not travelling. She is settled in the Riverlands with her wolf cousins. A family. I don't feel it. If others do, fine but it doesn't sit right to me at all.

Elissa disappeared and we only have the word of Corlys that the ship survived. I dont recall Euron ever saying he did it. He said he went to Valyria. Sothoryos is a different thing altogether. Jon was going to stay at Castle Black and she would visit him. Arya said she was never going North again, not even to visit her own brother. Its that, which allows him to go off with Tormund. He's not waiting for her. Its not a case of maybe in a few years. Jon is going off grid.

    Are the starks finished?

TV wise I get the feeling Sansa will never see her siblings, besides Bran again. Arya and Jon's stories mirrored. They join organisations that want to turn them into weapons, removing all worldly pleasures from them. They start at the very bottom before rising to their goal but constantly break the rules. They abandon said organisations to return home. They fall in love but 'Duty is the death of love', Jon's duty to the realm. Gendry's duty to the survival of the Baratheon name. They defeat Ice and Fire with a stab to the heart. They go into exile and are never seen again.

Edric Storm feels like the Baratheon Rickon. Its not really about that though, its about Arya, home and family. The core of her identity for me. I've said in the reaction thread, I think there is a dissonance in tone. The show wanted a triumphant ending for their epic final montage so they didnt have anyone say 'Wait, West of Westeros? Where everyone who has tried before has died?' Not one of her siblings protest so we think its a nice safe yachting adventure. The closest they get to the danger of it is having Arya repeat multiple times she will never go home again. No real explanation of why so I can only take that as a hint of doom. I think in the book this is going to be far more brutal.
