  1. I’m not sure this is crossing anyone’s mind though if they agree with the merits that he has absolute immunity, they should be prepared for him to throw some people through their window Putin style. I suspect Trump would be president until he died if he had absolute immunity for everything and I just don’t see how SCOTUS, especially conservative justices, would ever affirm that belief and render their power moot. By not hearing the case, they are affirming the district and appeals court opinions, both of which are the same. If they stay the case pending writ, they have to find some way that he has a chance to win by the merits. I don’t see any way they take up the case, just to write an opinion that basically says the same thing as the two courts before them. If they take it up, they’re looking for an angle to either grant him immunity or send it back to the district court to look at additional questions (e.g., if he has partial immunity, what’s the threshold test to apply in future situations and does Trump fail that immunity test) which will fundamentally delay any trial until after the election. This is possible but I find it highly unlikely that the SCOTUS will take up the writ just to affirm the two courts below them. Trump could appeal his conviction to the SCOTUS but two things will happen. 1. He will need to appeal it on a reasoning that’s not full immunity and 2. He will be convicted pending appeal. He can have that vacated but until then, he’s a convicted felon.
  2. Only if SCOTUS takes up the case on the merits. They may not want to touch it given judges on both sides are saying the same thing plus former judges, legal scholars and well, everyone but him. That seems more likely to me than them taking it up and declaring a former President immune. If they deny cert, trial likely in late spring I think.
  3. I originally thought it was going to be what you thought; a remake of the movie but with diversity but it's so much more. We are really enjoying it. Completely different from the movie in almost every way and it totally works. It very much has Glover's hands all over it, with some seriously whacky scenarios and incredibly awkward moments. It has more of an Atlanta vibe (which makes sense given Glover's and Francesca Sloane co-creating it) than a sexy ode to assassins like the movie and it's better for it. For those that like Sepinwall, here is his fantastic take on it. Spoiler, he likes it a lot. Also, the cameos are hilarious. Every episode so far has had one or two big ones. Cracking me up.
  4. That'll be huge, especially with Zinchenko coming off at half with yet another calf injury. Luckily Tomi is back this week from Asia Cup but he doesn't exactly have the most stellar injury history either.
  5. Luckily, this year, we don't need to play Rob Holding as our starting CB in the most crucial stretch of the run in.
  6. No one said "all we did". But we did increase the chance of City winning another title. That chance can change if they lose today but as of yesterday, it did increase their odds.
  7. Who said we can't compete? All I said is that our win over Liverpool helped City more than us. That is statistically true based on fixtures, squad, and games in hand. I didn't say they're going to win or that we have no chance. Yes, all teams will drop points, I just think it's less likely City drop more than us. Poor Havertz. He was great yesterday, absolutely critical in bullying Konate but just can't finish. So frustrating.
  8. At the Etihad? I'm not expecting this, especially with our paper thin squad. I'm not counting out more injuries. Your confidence is very high, appreciate that, but I still remember us playing Fulham, West Ham and Liverpool (in the FA Cup) this season. Those types of matches can and will happen to us.
  9. Yes it is. City now is 5 pts behind with 2 games in hand. If Liverpool won, they'd stay ahead, now City is in the driver seat. Sure we can compete, but we're going to need to win some big away games (still need to go to City, United, Spurs) and actually score our xG and give up our xG against, neither of which is assured given we're incredible at wasting chances and fantastic at giving up goals on minimal shots on target. Don't get me wrong, huge match for Arsenal to stay in the race, but that helped City get closer to winning the league than it did us.
  10. I get it but I'm just trying to understand if it's just Arsenal or it's always been happening and I just wasn't aware because it doesn't show up on my page since it's not Arsenal. All commentary on celebrations is annoying to me because it takes away from the game itself and focuses on something completely arbitrary and in the moment.
  11. But there was literally a clip from the PL official twitter account a week ago showcasing Klopp's over the top celebrations. I just don't remember national pundits shitting all over Klopp for it but maybe it was happening and I just wasn't paying attention. Pep has done it, City has celebrated, mid table teams celebrate, De Zerbi literally went insane for the 3rd goal Brighton scored on Saturday. It's natural. That was my main question, do you remember as a Liverpool fan, Carragher, Neville, et al ever criticizing Klopp / Liverpool for celebrating when they've won a big match? As for Odegaard, I think it's amazing. Here is the captain of the team, taking a lap with the club photographer who has been working with Arsenal for 20+ years and is a lifelong gooner. You have the fans going insane behind you and you force the photographer, who's always taking the photos to have one of himself on the pitch post-match between the two top clubs in the PL right now. That's just leadership. I see nothing cringe about that. He just made Stuart MacFarlane feel valued in a way that is impossible to measure. I wish we saw more of that type of shit rather than criticizing it.
  12. My twitter feed is all covered in comments from the celebration police (i.e., Neville, Carragher, Ferdinand, Keys). Have I just been blind because it wasn't my team but has there ever been this much discussion within UK football media about how happy a team is allowed to be when winning a big game? On NBC sports in the US, all the focus was on the tactical nature of the game but every commentary I keep seeing from UK clips (and I fully recognize they're just clips) is on how much Arsenal celebrates and how much they shouldn't. ETA: seems it’s just Sky Sports really and a few others but BBC MOTD was great and as I said, US coverage was very good. Still, it’s constant and I just don’t any commentary that’s been associated with celebrations with other teams.
  13. No but at least there is public transportation from a major city to get there.
  14. So much for that. That is one of the worst goals I’ve ever seen us give up. They’re deflated coming off the pitch. Unbelievably Arsenal. I don’t know why I watch.
  15. I thought the penalty was super weak and that kind of inconsistency with the Chelsea penalties is really frustrating. Echo Mainoo is awesome. What a player you guys got.
  16. United have spent a lot of money for ETH. Fans complain because that money spent has led to them being shit but it’s not like they have been cheap. Arsenal, once Kroenke took over completely, has spent a lot of money recently and part of that is loans from KSE on back of their Stanley Cup, NBA championship and Super Bowl wins. Liverpool spends but also does a good job of unloading so they’re net spend isn’t insane but they get more for their players which allows them to bring in some bigger names (Nunez for example). Spurs are cheap but it doesn’t help they just built a new stadium. And they still spend more than the rest outside of say Newcastle. It’s why they’re fairly unlikely to win the league, depth just isn’t enough. In American sports (NFL, NBA), it’s a star driven league. If you have a generational talent at QB or in NBA, you have a much higher chance of continued success. And that comes from drafting mostly. In MLB, it’s mostly money these days.
  17. The whole system is reinforcing too. If you finish in the top 5, you get European money you can spend on players. You also get better and more expensive sponsorships along with other revenue streams. And then you spend it on more players. That plus rich owners lending money to the team allows the top 6 to continually stay near the top even with failures along the way. A bottom PL team will have a tough time competing with that, there is just no way for them to get generational stars outside of developing them and that is not easy to do. Without a draft or salary cap, this is the way it’ll be always. It’s why I appreciate the NFL model and parity. You can go from the 3rd worst team to a playoff winner in a year if you draft the right talent with right coaching staff. There are other limitations there why certain teams are always good and others aren’t but the system itself lends to more season over season parity where as football does not and never will. As for Chelsea, their comeuppance is coming. They’re getting away with it now because of accounting rules for who they’ve sold and amortization of their contracts but over next few years, they will have a harder and harder time paying for it without European football.
  18. You can win those fights without being so much more physical. You can be more determined. You can be better trained. You can be more strategic / deliberate in your actions. Ellie isn't exactly the strongest woman in the world so it won't take a ton for her to do it. My point is more that unlike a Jack Reacher type of character where his entire being is his physicality, I think Abby can be less insanely strong and still fulfill the core of the character. And Kaitlyn Dever is a fantastic actress who has shown she can be smart, determined, hard as nails and a strong leader who people want to follow in previous roles which so important to Abby's character. I'm thrilled honestly.
  19. I think it'll be fine. Dever is an incredible actress who can have a commanding presence. Physicality is part of what she looked like but honestly, in the game, it wasn't a massive part of what he did. She was a soldier and a leader, Dever can play that role. She can be hard as fuck. If I look at WJ's post on 3 main issues, I fell into the structural issues (it was an absolute mess but can easily be fixed in a tv show) and plot issues categories which was exacerbated by the structure issues. I get what they were going for and I think it could have worked but the narrative structure made it hard for me to get behind it. Still a great game, just not as good a story as the first game imo (there are those who disagree).
  20. We finished The Brothers Sun a day or so ago. Very much enjoyed the ride. Need more fun series with good blend of action and comedy like this and Obliterated.
  21. Yea, there is definitely a need for a DM to come in but the profile we want is more likely to be found in the summer with someone like Zubimendi. Even if true, not sure how this goes through, we have no money for Onna or a striker in Jan. I just don't see it happening. Personally, I'd love a LB. Kiwior is not the answer there.
