But are fears of snakes, cockroaches, and spiders really that irrational?
The little bastards can actually be scary depending on their size and biting capability.

Even if you assume that this is the last meaningful aid package from the US, I think Ukraine has what it needs to outlast Russia.
I suppose whether this is true or not will depend on the results of our November elections.
I’m glad we’re finally sending this long overdue aid to Ukraine. But I’m still saddened about the thousands of dead Ukrainian’s who might not have died if it wasn’t for the asshole Republicans in congress that delayed this aid for so long.

Cockroaches. Oh, dear god. Aaaaaugh!!!
There was a patient that has this fear back when I worked in an emergency department.
His family brought him in and he was completely out of it, just screaming, incapable of saying what was wrong with him.
It took a while before a doctor thought to check his ears and found a little cockroach in there.

You say that, but I make a heel of myself around here and nobody's paying me anything. Can you imagine what I'd do for money!?!
Ummm. Do you not know your fellow posters?
None of us are getting paid!
I do this because I enjoy it.

I watched Civil War last Sunday. And my thoughts are that the battle scenes during the movie show exactly what they are supposed to. How terrifying and bloody a civil war in the U.S. would be.
But story wise, the movie is a let down.
But I would still watch it again for the battle scenes. Especially for the audio during the battles. BANG!

SIgh. And I thought I was the crazy one (see the phobia thread)
But since I am crazy, I do actually have hope for the Ukraine Aid this time.
I put the odds at 90% to 10% it passes.

Do you have a Phobia? They are a pain.
This is the first definition that came up when googled.
A phobia is an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear of a certain object, situation, or activity.
I have a phobia of floating away, and then falling from a great height.
Yeah, I KNOW it is crazy, and I KNOW it is irrational.
I KNOW how gravity works.
But my phobia still makes it's appearance known under certain circumstances.
(After riding roller coasters repeatedly, while driving though wide open country, and while walking across long bridges)
Intellectually I know my fears are nonsense. And I know what I fear is impossible.
But I'm still terrified every time, no matter how many times I force myself to take the actions to prove to myself the fear is groundless.
Do you have a phobia?

Nah.
I thought she might have been using a fake name.
Edit: Wait...... I'm getting Fallout 4 vibes right now.
Did we ever get the name of the daughter?
Is the current leader of 33 the daughter?

But Howard's wife stated they would be in a managerial vault. That fits vault 31 perfectly, since they supply overseers. They could both still be in cryopods. (Especially since Howard is still looking for his family. Which makes me think his daughter did not die in the initial blasts. He must have got the daughter to the ex, who then took off with her)

Just finished the last episode.
So our we assuming concerning Cooper Howard's wife and child....
SpoilerHis wife is the current leader of Vault 33. And his child is currently in cryosleep in vault 31?

They're deterrents for states that don't want to be attacked. Irrational actors, especially stateless ones, could give a fig about all that.
Fine. I'll put one my 'I'm Right' hat and lay things out plainly for you before my bedtime.
Below is what you posted, and what I responded to.
"I wouldn't be surprised if more developed nations have them than we think."
You think unknown developed nations have secret nukes, as in some crazy conspiracy..
And I said any developed nation that had nukes would reveal them as a deterrent.
Weird that you responded to this with some crazy tangent.

Yeah, I know. I just edited my post.
But you can bet your bollocks that a whole bunch of nations will be looking at the shit North Korea no longer has to take from the US, and thinking maybe they too can have Emperor Donald Trump kissing their collective national asses in fifteen years time.
No.
That may seem like a safe bet, but I’m not betting my balls on anything.
They keep me from falling backwards.

Nations who want nuclear weapons generally want them to protect themselves from US Aggression, no?
Pakistan and India are for each other.
Israel for the surrounding enemy states.
Great Britain and France are allies.
I suppose North Korea and Russia fit your criteria.
Which ones am I missing?

Nah. Strategically that makes zero sense.
The bombs are deterrents.

The current big picture:
- There was a concentration of missiles and drones targeting an Israeli airbase in the Negrev. The base's defences destroyed multiple missiles and drones, but it appears at least two missiles hit the base and multiple missiles impacted in the surrounding desert, reportedly wounding one Bedouin child (if the single civilian casualty from this attack was Muslim, that's not a great look for Iran). Unconfirmed reports of some military injuries at the airbase.
- The attack appears to be over, despite some claims of later secondary and tertiary launches which would not yet have arrived.
- Israel has indicated it will respond in some fashion, but is calibrating this with the United States. Some rumours that Jordan has used its willingness to help defend Israel to encourage Israel to mitigate any response.
But no deaths reported so far?
That seems to be the main factor right now, a way to deescalate for both parties.
Iran can say they retaliated for the attack on their consulate, but Israel has not suffered enough damage where they will feel compelled to retaliate.

I don't recall doing... but I do so love being bad. It's my nature.
Only thing I can think of is my understanding of Israel's war with Hamas, maybe?
I'm always joking, and I'm never not serious.
Although it's true; my greatest anxiety these days is Iran's progress towards nuclear armament, and the fact that neither U.S. presidential candidate is equipped to lead the country against such a threat. I express that discomfort in art and song, and am not sorry if it offends.
And I see no reason why President Biden could not lead the country against such a threat.
