  1. The question is self-explanatory, and I don't think it's been asked enough. Do you not have the right to know if your neighbor is a snake owner? Same question for people who play the bass with a pick.

    Denis Villenueve to direct Dune

So the thing i wanted to post but am too tech-stupid to post is that the other day I saw a vanity plate of "MUAD DIB." And for what it was worth, it was on a Tesla. In the "pics or it didn't happen" tradition, I have a pic! I just can't figure out how to post it.

Exercise and Fitness: Keep On Keepin' On

Nice! Sort of on that note and sort of on topic: Have any of you guys experimented with any of the services that are out there these days, either at like a CVS or the at home services, for getting blood work done? It seems like there are more options available for trying to get one's levels on this or that tested without going directly through one's MD, but I haven't really dabbled yet and a wondering if anyone has any experiences.

U.S. Politics: The Marionette Presidency Edition

My buddy who is on the gambling sites said that today's Cohen news moved the needle on impeachment in a way that Helsinki did not. What a world.

U.S. Politics- SCOTUS 2: The Election Strikes Back

Was the implication on that Soros story related to Gillebrand and Franken that she was just using it as a #metoo moment for her own political positioning or that she actually saw him as a rival?

U.S. Politics- SCOTUS 2: The Election Strikes Back

Agreed unless there's a legit chance that it could be shut down completely. I'm still not quite clear on what happens should it be shut down...whether the DOJ continues it with other people, whether the findings up that point can still come out, whether NY state and continue some of it, etc... The news today that Russia asked Trump about going after American diplomats like McFaul and that it apparently wasn't shut down is about the most chilling thing yet from this era to me.

But consider that all cynicism aside there have been signs that the GOP Senate, for all they're doing with shit bills and shit judges, has quite possibly been protecting the Mueller investigation from Trump. What that post I linked is suggesting is that these people might truly be boxed in but keeping open the one avenue that keeps Trump from becoming Emperor and keeps a line open to a place in the future where they could better afford to turn on him. None of this is to excuse all the rest of their bullshit, certainly not the Turtle's.

Could there actually be a more noble reason for some Republican Senators to urge Mueller to hurry up? Without fully endorsing this it feels plausible to me at the same time. Worried I'm thinking that just because it feels like a ray of hope and it's just wishful thinking.

Well, if you do go through with this...if you are such a soul, you should share pictures.

I think that Siol was the Copper Tree but really, really...as much as I've loved this series...caution against making things permanent.

I don't think that analogy really works. If the Turtle wins over the Donald the Warden will have still won. It's just that the efficiency of innocent citizens taken to the assylum might see an uptake on the account of more efficient leadership. ETA: Doesn't refute your point that forcefully, I realize.

MLB 2018: Sho(hei) Me What You Got

It was necessary for the sake of classiness that it was done. Truthfully, I've been torn. Made playoffs four straight years to start career but was arguably the most criticized / questioned manager around. I am not sure whether we'll get something better or not and suspect that Matheny will get another MLB job (whether he should, I'm less sure). I saw one headline about Girardi. OK on paper, but he's just so fucking NYY that it feels wrong.

    The Final & 3rd Place - FRA v. CRO / BEL v. ENG

Holy shit, thanks, haha. Were both the Dembele on France and the Dembele on Belgium both people that it was oft-speculated should have come off the bench and played more?

    Careerchat II

Sorry, man, that fucking sucks. There's only one thing worse than working and all that... For what it's worth I'm still in that relatively comfortable (but perhaps too comfortable) spot where I'm feeling solid at my current place which pays the bills but am probably ready to go for a step up if I can get out of the comfort zone. A totally OK problem to have, of course. I do have one question in the career advice category: I've recently started to expand a certain skillset within my field in part because my office/team has decided to have the ace at this stuff bring me up to speed on it partly because I'd expressed an interest and partly because it would help the team overall if someone else could pitch in. Thing is, developing this skill makes me more marketable. Another arrow in the quiver, if you will. I don't have any aims to leave tomorrow (see above), but if I can get out of the comfort zone mindset to what extent am I obligated to stick around a bit longer to payback the entity that's allowing me to develop this new skill versus to what extent is this an it's-all-about-me world? Maybe it's just my personality, but I lean towards feeling like I need to give back to some extent. Am I a fool?
