Trivia of Ice and Fire in New York

Recommended Posts

This is a heads up to all the fans of GRRM's masterpiece that are also fans of trivia (a pretty big overlap I'm guessing) in the NYC area. I'm working with a few friends to host a series of trivia nights based on A Song of Ice and Fire. The location will be Over the Eight, a fun bar in Williamsburg. We'll be starting in January and hosting an event every other Sunday until the premier of season 4 of the HBO series. The dates and details on the location are included below.

The trivia will be based on the books, despite copious talk about the TV series. The trivia will contain spoilers, though we will do our best to avoid any major plot reveals from the later novels. It will be set up along the lines of most bar trivia, teams of up to 4-5, no phones or other references, several rounds, most involving direct questions (e.g. Who is the king on the Iron Throne at the opening of AGoT?), but also some visual rounds (e.g. Label this map, match the houses with their heraldry, etc.) also. We will have weekly winners but also keep track of team scores week to week to determine an overall winner. We're still working out the prizes.

So anyone in the New York City area, get excited, spread the word and please give feedback. We want to make this an awesome experience for everyone.

I've walked and run by Over the Eight a couple times but never knew its name. Looks like an interesting place.

So, is this supposed to be something where it's the same teams/people every week or is it generally open to people who want to show up for one night while the team scores are for the folks coming every time?

It is meant for both. The questions each week will be independent and will not require you to be there any other week. There will be a winning team and a prize each week, but for teams that come back multiple weeks we will also track the cumulative scores and determine an overall winner.

We encourage people to come for all the events if they can. We also encourage people to come for just one if they can. You should be able to enjoy yourself either way.

A side note, it will be the team name that is tracked not the members. So, if your swap a couple people out any given night it is fine.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just want to let everyone know, we had a great event this past weekend. We got around 25 fans out to our inaugural event and we hope to grow from there. We had a wide range of expertise there. There were teams that managed to remember exactly how many Targaryens have sat the Iron Throne and some that couldn't quite remember if the Starks received Bear Island from the Ironmen in a wedding or a wrestling match, it was the latter. Overall everyone seemed to have a very good time.

Our next event will be a week from Sunday on January 19th. We hope to see some of you there. And make sure to check out our blog too http://atoiaf.blogspot.com/.
