Not that either one would make much sense, it was basically just a contrivance for Art to get shot. I thought it was an attempt on Raylan (ie Darryl thought Raylan would be with Alison). The 'contrivance' would be that Art just so happened to be with Alison instead.I'm probably way off base, but as I said earlier this whole shooting was clunky and didn't make much sense (like much of this season). Also, while these last couple of episodes have been the better ones of the season, I think next season's quality will tell us how important Elmore Leonard was to the production of Justified.
