DaveSumm
http://www.waterstones.com/blog/2014/02/winter-is-coming/I love the look of these, it's just a real shame aSoS and aDwD are still spilt. If they were hardcovers I might consider purchasing, but having complete editions is a must for me.EDIT: They're B format paperbacks apparently. becca69
Love the fonts but not sure I like the photographic approach. Doesn't say "fantasy" to me.
Ser Jake
Just seems like a cash grab to be honest. Pictures look good, but as becca69 above me said, it doesn't say "fantasy". Looks more like a nature book. Also, a little off-topic, but HOLY SHIT: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Signed-A-FEAST-FOR-CROWS-George-RR-Martin-1of25-Stephen-Youll-DJ-game-of-thrones-/121278769291?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item1c3cc7288b I know that it's really rare, but if I'm not mistaken there was one or two of those that sold on eBay last year for like $300-$400. Geez, I sold my extra one for around $300 so I could purchase another rare GRRM book (I paid $70 for them originally). Stephen was selling his last few he held back just recently for $600 I think - actually it looks like he might still have some. http://www.stephenyoull.com/stephenyoull.com/PRINTS.html
nyles33
Yeah, it's a bit much, but good luck to the seller. I was hoping the covers were for hard backs.. Not sure I will buy the paperbacks too..
Olaf
Well, these editions are meant to attract new readers who might have heard about the show and/or seen it, but are yet unfamiliar with the novels. I think they look striking and this photographic approach is I think rather bold for a fantasy novel. A lot of established fans seem to have reservations about that approach however. But it is a sign of how popular GRRM has become that his publishers on both sides of the pond bring out his books in a variety of formats and cover styles, so that everyone can choose his/her favourite edition. Look at how many different editions of LOTR are available at any given time. And there are still new editions published almost every year. The s ame thing will happen with ASOIAF. There will be more editions coming in the next few years. Illustrated by different artists, in a variety of formats (hardback, trade, paperback), with a variety of different cover styles. That will certainly be a challenge for any completist collectors, but the marketplace seems to be big enough for it right now. BTW, is there any good resource for GRRM collectors? Or a page by GRRM collectors?
becca69
BTW, is there any good resource for GRRM collectors? Or a page by GRRM collectors? There is a dedicated thread over on the Dark Tower site. There are quite a few book collectors there that have collections other than Stephen King. It's a good place for new info and selling/trading. http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?15072-The-Collectible-George-R.R.-Martin I wish this site had a bigger focus on the book collecting aspect. It would be nice to have a database established like the DT site has for Stephen King books.
